- The Sugar Glider is a small marsupial with a Gliding membrane It is also known as a Flying Squirrel. They cannot fly, but they jump and glide through the air, what looks like flying. They can fly down into the owners hand! Some people have Sugar Gliders as pets!
They are not aggressive or dangerous animals, but they have sharp teeth. Overall, they are really cute animals

I agree with everything in this video except the claim that sugar gliders are extremely intelligent. They're not. Whenever I would play chess with mine, he would often fall for traps in common openings or blunder his queen before the 15th move.
LMAO
I've noticed the same thing. They fall for the Scholar's Mate repeatedly. I mean, intelligent, gimme a break.
This needs more likes lol
I think thats more to do with your training!
😂😂😂
So basically in short sugar gliders are nothing but sweet hearts.
What they don’t tell you is that some are cannibals I know from first hand experience 😢
@@josuetankson6633 This is true ! If the young are inbred, the parents will recycle them !
Hence, always practice sensible best breeding with 2 unrelated adults.
@@wande.r Recycle 😭😂
I always suspected I had a 'sweet spot' from the first time I saw them.
I don't know about the inbred comment that may or may not b true. What the temperament and acceptance the Joey's have is directly related to parent or both. I have one male I've bred to two females. One female I cannot hold without a towel. The other luckily came from the breeder basically bonded. My male is like that also. Joey's from the first female are very wild. and afraid of me. Gliders bite for these reasons mostly and do so defensively as expected. Holding one male then another without washing scent from first is an invitation for attack. Literally. Females sometimes will show this. They are very territorial.
Joey's from the second female are what I call million dollar Gliders. They are naturally easy to hold and grow more so with time. I believe all with time and patience can be bonded but its so easy to start with " tame" Joey's that react positively to affection and grow more so.
The only Sugar Gliders that are enjoyably are those that enjoy being handled. NEVER purchase a SG you cannot spend some time with before purchase.
The question shouldn't be " What is a Sugar Glider? " . It should be " Why haven't I heard of a Sugar Glider and where can I get one?"
Awesome little things 👍🏻😋
Haha! 😂
Truth is, a sugar glider do not make good pets.
1. They are nocturnal.
2. They are NOISY so say bye to sleep.
3. You need to make sure they are never alone...
Sad fact is, isolation will kill them so always make sure they have a fellow sugar glider.
But. If you're prepared, did your research, got the right equipment and the funding, they can be good partners.
@@RenGraes good thing I'm nocturnal too
@@blaisemomin1106 Then they're perfect for ya. Just be sure to spend a lotta time with em to keep them happy.
Pay attention to their sounds, they're indicative of their current mood.
@@RenGraes Mines not very noisy at all. Then again we’re both nocturnal so when I’m up, he’s up.
For those of you that insist on bringing your chicken, pig or small pony on a plane as your emotional support animal, please consider the sugar glider.
Looking after any pet will always be expensive, sometimes even thousands, I mean most of that is because of the Solid Gold Crown you must buy your pet, plus the caviar for their food, and the water sourced directly from the north pole... it's just a mystery how they naturally find these things in the wild :)
Edit: just to clarify, this comment is sarcastic, the most expensive pet I ever had was my German Shepard and he'd eat anything you put in front of him.
I had a snow husky, only expensive thing about him was his soccer ball popping addicting (he use to play soccer with me and my brothers)
All bets are off when he said parasites.
I AM SO IN LOVE WITH THOSE THINGS ANIMALS I ❤ ALL ANIMALS BUT THE SUGAR GLIDES STOLE MY HART❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤BOR777 ❤❤❤❤❤JESUS KNOWS YOU ALL
Theirs only a few things in this video word wise. However the cage set is dangerous for girders. The vine has killed SEVERAL glifers and anything besides anti pill fleece isn't recommended because gliders are nibblers. The fibers of that material will get caught in their toes and teeth and HAS AND DOES kill gliders! Company advertise these as glider safe because it's another animal to profit off of. But in the glider community theirs a lot of info not put in this video. Just because it hasn't doesn't mean it won't and the fabric in other materials bleeds and acts as a toxin to gliders. Everything else I love! Jagoh! Great job!
Remember. Never get only one sugar glider. Always get at least 2 or more or they will get anxiety and develop emotional problems.
also, they will literally self-mutilate and kill themselves if away from another sugar glider for too long. they are extremely emotionally attached.
Not only that, but it will also shorten their lifespan.
A few things they did not mention in the video.
1. Sugar gliders are mostly nocturnal and will be active during the night time hours.
2. They make the most adorable mad sounds. It literally sounds like a miniature chainsaw, anyone who has had this can confirm that.
3. Companionship is absolutely necessary, do not get just one sugar glider as it can actually lead to them dying from depression and mental issues.
1 and 3 was mentioned.
They DID mention they are nocturnal, and they DID mention they should be kept as colonies, not single.
They mentioned 2 out of the 3 you mentioned, lol.
Have you had a couple?
I'd love a couple, but I'm not sure about the laws here in the UK.
Sugar is a very fitting name for them, they're the cutest thing I have ever seen !
So true!
But you should never feed them Sugar, as it is poisonous and not a part of their natural diet.
Instead, feed them what they would find in a tree, bugs, worms, insects, eggs, gum or sap from an eucalyptus tree, oh and ofcourse nectar.
@@wande.r Thanks for the informative comment :) when I was traveling in South America there were these little monkeys in the size of squirrels and I fed them fruits
@@MybeautifulandamazingPrincess hi, possibly a squirrel monkey then ?
If you love small mammals, a good one that you find in Africa is a Bush Baby , very cute, large eyes and they can leap ! But not Domesticable , unlike suggies
@@wande.r I think they're called Tamarins, they're about the same size as squirrel monkeys but they have a mane and they have black and white fur, in Latin America they're everywhere, they also have wild macaws, it's incredible the wildlife diversity in tropical locations
And Bush babies are indeed very cute!
My sugar glider is a sweet little baby who loves cuddles but hates being awake during the day
Do you only have one?
Aww....So Adorable
❤❤
So cute, so sweet . Beautiful little creature.💖💖💖💖💖
Didnt expected it to be such an informative video!! Awesome 👍
More to come!
I love mine. He’s 4 and he’s only just now gliding mostly from my hand to my bookcases.
Do they need to be on a leash when you are driving or have them in public to refrain from them running away? Or do they just stay with you and bond
I have 2 Sugar Gliders and they love to be with me all the time even when i go to my doctors apartment and Stores! :3
its crazy how these little guys and Fennecs have gotten big lately... ive been wanting one of these guys and a fennec since i was like 9... im 33 now.
also seems Servals, Caracals and Savanas are more common now too.
Same. Such beautiful animal if I could afford to open my own place and hire trustworthy people I would be happy
as a nocturnal animal, i too want a nocturnal companion. i just found one. thanks.
I’ve seen them in pics with their owner. They are so adorable. If I didn’t have a kitty, I would want to get a couple. Thanks for the video. Helps me learn a little more about them.
They have the most adorable little faces! One thing I strongly have to disagree on is that certain rodents - rats, to be specific - form a very close bond to their humans, just like dogs. They're almost perfect pets, except for their short lifespan. An equally affectionate small pet with such a long lifespan sounds like an absolute dream to me.
Love your voice, you speed, the amount of facts and on top of that.. really the cutest animal on this planet.. What an awesome video, you got yourself another subscriber!
I love how u make a point not to say “owners” but family. Everyone who has or is considering having an animal companion viewed it as a family member. Maybe there wouldn’t be so much animal cruelty and neglect.
Let me guess: the dislikes for this video all came from mice, rats, gerbils, hamsters and ferrets.
Or the Australians for whom it is illegal to have a pet sugar glider.
Yes and for good reason. Notice the eyes? They are a nocturnal animal. You can look that up
Nope I put a dislike because of the wrong portrayal of these wild undomesticated animals. I think this is terrible.
They make it out as if they will be this adorable pet that will be like a little Pokemon type thing that you can take out places.
People would get the wrong idea and get a couple of them and very likely be dissapointed.
When they don't turn out to be the cute little pocket animal, as implied in this video, people will likely give up on them not haveing the real dedication and patience required to train them.
Unless you're lucky it won't be easy to train them like that. They should be very clear about this, they don't even touch on how much attention these wild animals could need.
They are not in any way domesticated animals and probably shouldn't even be pets.
I really do think they adorable and I would love to play with one, but this video feels wrong to me...
It's more like a 'click-baity' video not at all taking into consideration that they are giving people the wrong idea these adorable animals
This could easily result in people neglecting them after they don't end up being the cute, little and easy to train pocket animals as they are portrayed in this video...
I think this is irresponsible just for the sake of making an appealing video, all at the risk of these animals being neglected.
Rant over...
Or people mad they lied in the description... They make no effort at all to explain why they are so cute.
As a ferret owner, I am currently deciding if I should give a thumbs up or thumbs down, much like a Roman Caesar.
Sugar Gliders are nocturnal... hmm fits my schedule just fine :D
that is cool. I would like a sugar glider as a pet. The most important thing is that they bond with their human families yery well.
Do not use heat rocks in glider cages
He looks like he has my Karl Lagerfeld swing coat on 🐥
They make cute pets
I love these little animals. I have 2 of them and it's hard to not say aw at them.
I love sugar gliders!
Gee, I'm sold!
You must always have atleast two or three .. never ever one, NO exceptions!!! These little guys are extremely social and will die of loneliness 😢
What about other animals like Guinea pigs that live nearby or rabbits?
I've heard it's good to start off with one though. Have one, bond with it, and then get a second, third, etc. Because the first one already loves you, the others will learn to love you faster because they're so social.
It’s very common for Gliders to die very early on due to loneliness.. they are very very different than other animals and require attention from other Gliders.. I would never risk it and only have one
They don't die of loneliness. They'll get bored and over groom themselves, and over grooming causes scratches and lesions, which can get infected and kill them. So the loneliness does not kill them, the loneliness causes them to over groom and that can cause them to die. Self mutilation.

This was a lovely video indeed! Informative and helpful!
I met sugar gliders in person at a reptile show. (Why marsupials were at a reptile show, I don't know, but I'm not complaining.) I got to hold one, and they are *impossibly* soft. I fell in love with the little beans, and I want a couple of my own, but I have cats so... I'm afraid my cats will see them as prey so I'm waiting until I'm more comfortable with my ability to protect them. Until then, I'm learning what I can about them in my free time. After all, I love the idea of having an "emotional support sugar glider" (or two) in my pocket at all times. XD
Haha that would be cool but i dont think the sugar glider would like that ;D
@@LearnaboutAnimals lol What part wouldn't it like? Living in my pocket all the time? Of course I'd give them time in the cage though. Pocket time would be bad during my bedtime, for sure. O_o
Cuteness overload
A very succinct explanation. Great video sir!

So cute
so cute
Wow, beautiful
They are so cute!
That cageset has been known to kill gliders, the one piece with the thin ropes that hang like a trampoline thing, gliders are tail carriers and they wrap themselves up in this toy to their sad demise.
Great videos. Please post more
Thank you, I will
Thank you for this amazing video! I agree with this and will def use this video as a persusasion to adopt one!

You mean TWO gliders....
YOU HAVE TO GET TWO
Nice video! It has very cute footage and good information. Too bad sugar gliders don't exist though :(
The food thing is hilarious. HOURS a day preparing their food! No, I have two and we buy everything a few times a week and it takes about 10-15 mins a night to prepare their meals.
What is your favorite fact about the Suger Glider? Please leave it in the comments below!

Here are some facts from an Australian.
In Australia in most states it is illegal to have sugar gliders as pets. I live in Sydney, there are sugar gliders in the bush around me. They make deep cuts in certain trees (the blood wood tree) to harvest the red coloured sap. The trees look like they have blood coming from the cuts. Gliders are rarely seen by Australians as they are shy and nocturnal. Like most Australians I have never seen one in the wild, just the marks in the trees from their sap farming.
Another fact - sugar gliders prey on small birds - they eat birds eggs, and young chicks. Some native birds have become endangered in part because sugar gliders eat their eggs. The swift parrot in Tasmania has become endangered, partly due to the introduction of sugar gliders on the island of Tasmania - Sugar gliders were not native to that part of Australia and were introduced by European settlers in the early 1800's.
Most Australians learn more about Sugar Gliders from Americans who care for them as pets. This video is a very good example.
Thanks for the video from an Aussie.
I didnt expect a baby sugar glider to be the size of a SINGE RICE GRAIN
we have two sugar gliders and they are the best
best part about sugars to me is they have no smell. a lot of other small animals like ferrets always have a musk smell to them. sugars smell like fabric softener or something!! dont even have to bathe them either like a cat.
They don’t smell bad but their scent marking smells really strong. You need to use an air purifier and clean their cages frequently. Very strong musk. Not the same as most other pets’.
I wanted to keep one as a pet
My mom said yes
you mean TWO!! THEY ARE SOCIAL ANIMALS & YOU NEED AT LEAST TWO. And if you're young enough to have to ask your mom for permission, they likely are not a good pet for you. They are NOT a children's pet like a hamster!
I pay 15$ per month to make food for my babies. Just put a little work into it once a month. It’s not hard at all. There easy pets and I love them.
i need one oh my
i like the video :)
Thanks so much! ❤
I have to disagree with the comment about not being able to take a rodent out with you. I used to have a black rat that went everywhere with me. He'd sit on my shoulder, hiding under my hair. Occasionally poking his head out to have a nose around, and scare the nearest person to me, but he never once tried to climb down or go anywhere other than my shoulder, until we got home. Then he'd climb down, go back to his cage to eat and drink, and to go to the loo, then come back out and sit next to me or on my shoulder again.
Rats are an exception, yeah, they're extremely social too and very intelligent. They definitely bond with their humans strongly, much more so than any other rodents I've had, mice, gerbils, hamsters, etc... Like these, I'd also recommend never getting just one rat. It's really not good for them, they need a lot of companionship and can get seriously depressed without it.
Rats are cool. Remarkably clean animals, actually. If they're domestic anyway.
I agree mine is so much like that
dam the perfect pet then
Just two things amiss. Gliders spend nearly 2 months in mama's pouch after birth, not several weeks. And, though gliders dont need to chew like rodents, they are like 3 yr old children with vivid individual personalities. Many love to chew. So, NO to the heat rock!!!!!
Dude I’m totally getting a suger glider
I need one ❤️
Never put a heat rock, if unregulated And some gliders haven been know to chew on cords.
If you can teach it all those tricks I'm sure you can teach it to go to the bathroom in a specific place especially if it won't go in a place that it sleeps. I just wouldn't have it otherwise regardless of how cute it is.
nah, you cant.. they just go when they feel like it, specially after they wake up... I tried training mines for 2 years... and instead, they try to pee on me instead if when I wake them up, I dont let them run around the cage to do their business before i set them loose onto the world (House). Lol
I'd like to have one! So would my kitty cat!
Suggies live well with other domestic pets. We have suggies as well as a dog and a cat.
Cat is most definitely NOT interested in them as prey , in fact the way suggies, jump , leap and scurry, Cats find their movement unpredictable and as such are disinterested.
You mean TWO!
Great video but you correct the information on the koala, it is a marsupial not a bear. The koala is closer to a wombat as they both have back opening pouches
what if you are working on shifts? can they adapt as fast as humans or will it be bad for them?
I love these little things, I have one of my own, I believe mine is known as “leucistic.”
Get it a friend!
You are supposed to have two. The her miserable with only one and will self mutilate
I have 31 shuger gliders
wayyyyyy to many...are you breeding and selling them.....
i have suger gliters and they eat some cheese to so they are so cute and like the vid said they love bonding
I am wonder where you are from because Human body temp is: 97.7f 99.0 and above means you have a fever. I say that because I wondering if you live in an area where you are converting Fahrenheit from Celsius. That when that tends to happen. Great video.
the temperature I was always taught growing up was 98.6 (measured in the mouth) and over 100F was a fever.
when measured at our skin, that temperature will naturally be lower (for instance, I am almost always hovering around 97.1 on infrared thermometers).
I think the biggest point he was making was that the human body temperature is almost perfectly aligned, (I really am not worried about half a degree in what is NOT a detailed or technical video on how to care for your Sugar Glider) to the point that even with variation from person to person, the body warmth of a human is well within the safe range of keeping a Sugar Glider comfy if the air temp drops low enough for it to start feeling the chill.
yeah 98.6°f sounds right....
when i hear 97.7 i think of 97.7 KIISFM lol.
My sugar baby, her name was Ruth or Ruthy as we like to call her, we don't know how she was when we got her, because she was one year old, when we got her, we got her from Tennessee, by girl that her mom rise them, she was so precious and sweet,
I so wish I had one
you mean TWO (or more)
Would I be able to take them on sailing? In a familyboat for six ppl. There is roof and rooms but I am concerned about the winds and movements and also that its always colder on the water 😯
It might be fine. As the video says, they do tend to want to stick to you if they're properly bonded. That being said, if I were you, I'd leave them on land in their cage (preferably with a buddy) until you're done sailing. It's best to put their safety first.
Do not use a heat rock, this is bad advice. My sister has two of these little darlings and what was recommended to her and what seems to work the best. She has a small space heater underneath the cage which is about 3 feet off the ground. This way it provides radiant, noncontact heat, as heat rises, she can control the temperature of the cage perfectly, and it basically only stays warm in the cage area and doesn’t emanate throughout her place, an infrared heater is also highly recommended the same way..
Yes, you have to give them fresh food every day, you have to change it up, but they are absolutely adorable, price wise the cage was about $2000 with everything, it’s large and works really well. She has two sugar gliders and they cost her $600 each, and they were about six months old and entertained already, talk about a month to bond with them, but now they are bonded, loving little animals that ride around on her shoulders and love to run around and play, be very cautious with these animals. They are small and reasonably fragile. Do not have them with other animals. It can harm them.
Endangered species #8 waktu itu yang di awetkan untuk lab zoologi
It says you don't have to wash them, but I saw one trying to climb inside a glass of soda. If it dumped coke all over itself would it really be able to clean off on its own?
Not allowed to keep them as pets in Australia
Please please please NO ELECTRIC HEAT ROCK IN CAGE. Heaters can burn your glider and their ears and they can chew thru the cord and get electrocuted!!
First you get the sugar, then you get the power, then you get the women.
Homer Simpson
Its clear now why God portions it out in those tiny packets and why he lives on a plantation in Hawaii.
So why do they do they chew on things?
