the turn where seth plays his fourth land tapped and passes, realizes it should be untapped, untaps it, unpasses the turn, casts a 5 drop with 4 mana, uncasts it, and then unplays his land for turn... that was amazing
I'm good at Magic... ;)
I was just thinking it would be fun to see more paper magic games from the channel. Also so we could see Seth screw up the paper magic cards :)
@@MTGGoldfishCommander How did Book of Exalted Deeds tap on the turn it was played?
Artifacts don't have summoning sickness @@21Kikoshi
@21Kikoshi because artifacts don't have summon sickness?
i appreciate whoever made the commanders have mono-colored borders during the intro, that took some work I’m sure
Not as hard as you'd think, but still a cool edit.
I love it
Yeah I imagine they found the appropriate card frame and then just photoshopped the art and text onto that frame. I’d imagine if they recolored the border on the original card, it’d be harder, but I’m sure they took the simplest route.
@@Crunchatize_Me_Senpai and? photoshopping the art and text onto the right frame for all of them is still a decent amount of work as far as I'm concerned
@@domotoro3552 I mean, it’s work in the same way that selling burgers to a few people at a fast food restaurant is work. It’s pretty basic stuff. Stuff you could learn to do after an hour in photoshop.
I’m not dogging on them for taking the easy route, there’s no need to work extra hard for such a short and unimportant part of the video. I appreciate that they put any effort towards it at all. Just saying, it’s not the difficult task you’re making it sound like it is. It’s like the most basic part of an editor’s job.
For a webcam play it is very, very good produced: tabletop allignment, sound, graphics, annoucing the play moves.. Well done.
I didn't realise that you guys were switching to webcam/paper magic. I like the cuts to cards you talk about, and the edits are cool, though the swoosh could be quieter. Felt like it was covering your talking at points.
Much love, and CLASH ON 💪
Agreed with the swoosh sound being too loud.
the "ding" on lifegain is also really loud!
They do both. This episode wouldn't be possible mechanically on Mt;GO
Shame, since I enjoyed watching on mtgo. Don't think I am going to watch anymore if that is the case :(
@@TheSpiritombsableye what are you talking about?
I feel like someone needs to track all the misplays during the paper magic season lol. I love the change
We clown on MTGO but we're never getting another sliver week or chaos week again with this format.
Imagine trying to resolve a thieves auction over spelltable lmao @@MakeVarahHappen
I lost count in the middle of Seth's Ayara/Panharmonicon triggers. I'm pretty sure he missed tutors off the sawn in half demon, more than half of the ayara life-gain, at least half the ayara triggers off bowmaster. I think he might have actually survived the PoP if he'd done the triggers correctly.
Turn 5: maybe Crim forgot to draw his card for the turn. I don't know about the Phil storm turn, cuz it went too fast. Then on 51:40 Crim did 78+8=84. 54:06 Seth didn't lose 2 life from ancient tomb. 56:44 Crim forgot to add 1 +1/+1 counter to a creature. He did the same mistake at 58:26. Probably he thinks he get only 1 counter, but actually they are 2 separate life triggering. Actually, now that I notice it, Suture priest triggers only on your own creature, so ALL the lifegain triggers are wrong, he should only get 2. It may be relevant for the card draw trigger. Also again, Phil turn is kinda of messy: hard to understand without making too much calculations if there are any misstriggers. 1:07:19 Crim: there are 6 triggers for 6 +1/+1 counters, not 4. 1:08:00 I don't understand why Crim lose 1. 1:12:10 I don't understand if Seth tutor for 4 cards or not. After that I kinda of stopped keeping track.
Shoutouts to the editor for this episode, it looks great and I know it’s gotta be a whole lot more time-consuming than editing an MTGO episode!
Richard's basic land choice is impeccable.
"Did you just mumble Scapeshift" might be one of my favorite Seth quotes of all time.
Two players: Bring burn
Crim: *laughs in coincidence*
Coincidence? Weird way of spelling "is so sweaty it's genuinely sad"
@@papaUrabrask Lifegain tribal is so far from sweaty in commander
@@papaUrabrask lol you sound like a pleasure to be around
@Kryptnyt against burn decks he clearly knew about? Suuuure it is.
@@papaUrabrasksounds like you just don’t like Crim tbh
oooooo how fun. excited to see what paper magic brings to this show. now Crim won't ever skip through his turn! I'm expecting good things from him this season
Did I miss a stats episode? 👀 Always kind of like the breakdown of that with the opinions.
I was just about to say this
We're trying to figure out what to do about stats episodes moving forward. Might end up being a podcast episode or something similar.
It always did feel more like a podcast episode@@MTGGoldfish
Or a Patreon episode
@@MTGGoldfish I like the podcast episode idea for stats more.
Wow this is quite the change up! I will say I’m gonna miss MTGO and all the hilarity that came with it, but y’all did a great job on this! Would be fun to still have some things like chaos week or slivers, which are imo difficult to do in person, on MTGO
Big fan of the paper magic, it definitely feels different but I LOVE the players not having to click through priority.
Big welcome back to Phil!
I would love it if yall put a turn counter in!
Ohh, good idea! We'll see about adding that in the future.
Came here to request the same, a turn counter is helpful to remind us how crazy Phil's start was! @@MTGGoldfish
This is the first Commander Clash that I've actually stuck around and watched the whole thing. The switch to webcam/paper is so much smoother to follow and easier on the eyes than online.
A little less sound effects but man the lighting and paper play looks great feels like you guys are really playing at a table playing good old kitchen table magic
Thank you Phil for taking care of Tomers plants 😂
Personally prefer mtgo. But luckily you guys are by far the most entertaining commander group to watch on youtube.
New editing and presentation for paper games looks awesome. Great work Goldfish team!
Some of the sound effects are a little loud, so the audio balancing might need to be fixed, but having it all be both in paper and readable is a nice change
It looks like the change was popular so there isn't much point going against it, but there's some downsides for sure moving to paper. It's basically impossible to read the cards, whereas on MTGO the shorter text boxes were readable and easier to see. Not being able to see each player's hand all the time is also a big loss. Certain themes like Chaos Week and steal decks with bribery style cards also seem much harder to do on webcam. My biggest concern though is that lots of minor rules questions will be answered wrong and result in big mistakes that decide entire episodes
Compare to mtgo fails, misplays because of UI, missing cards.
I also really miss being able to see the hands of each player. Now how will we know how badly they misplayed without knowing what was in their hand?
@@jeffe2267hopefully they'll talk a bit more at the end of the game in the next ones. I seem to be one of few that really enjoys the post game discussions.
@@RunninOnYTI also felt like a part was missing when they didn't talk about what cards they were most excited about
The downsides are real but I feel that some of them kinda apply to the mtgo style too: namely the reading cards and seeing hands points. Unless you're watching at a very high resolution (higher than my internet can provide w/o buffering, at least), the rules text of cards on the battlefield are illegible and it's impossible to identify cards in non-POV players' hands without recognising the art.
Everything else is very valid tho; shutting off theft effects and swapping out mtgo fails for human error will have an impact. Overall I'm still excited to see the crew run a season with a new pool of cards available to them (and to watch them spill their cards everywhere trying to shuffle :P)
I love having Phil back no matter how salty it makes Crim
Wow the production value is amazing in this episode! Great job to the goldfish team! 👏👏👏
Been watching y'all since Jake was a player. This change away from Mgto I'm sure will be awesome, but I'm a little sad to see the switch away from mtgo after so long. Kinda felt like part of what made commander clash unique
The new format looks great! Everyone's camera feeds look really clean, and the card pop-ups are helpful without getting in the way too much. 👍
Editor needs a raise for this one. Id like to see more spelltable games in the future. A mix of this and MTGO would be sweet.
"Did you just mumble Scapeshift?" is not something you want to hear while a mono-green deck is at the table under most circumstances
Seth had two copies of Vesuva in his deck XD great content and I enjoy the switch to paper magic will be a fun season for sure!
I want "I was gonna win, now I'm maybe going to win" on a shirt. Peak phil right there
I will add my voice to the list of people who prefer mtgo to paper gameplay, but that said, I'm glad you guys are not afraid to try new things! I want to encourage you to keep up the amazing work. 😊
Also, I'm looking forward to seeing your stats in a podcast episode!
Such a great change. I absolutely love it. I've never been able to enjoy mtgo content. I'm a huge fan, thanks guys, keep up the great work.
Love the production quality.
The switch to paper is nice, the production quality is super high and I think the set up will be well worth the investment
Phil is back!
Did Phil forget to draw a card on turn2 after playing Explore?
Yes! It was driving me insane lol
Mtgo wouldn't forget that.
Came to the comments section to find this
Phil missed several triggers. 😂
Phil missed MANY triggers! @@gagewoodcock2479
Alternate title: Seth and Richard watch Phil and Crim play Magic: the Gathering
Love the switch to paper magic!!
But we can't see their hands now. It really takes away from learning exactly how much Richard is holding back. or seeing if crim really does have that counterspell.
I'm glad you guys are using a medium where Crim won't be disadvantaged :P
not until he casts a pact of negation
I hope moto is coming back. I enjoy being able to see the board.
I prefer the mtgo
Monored aragorn would be hilarious as a Dragon's Approach deck
Soul sisters looked fun.
Super close game, everyone almost won. Great decks.
Thanks phil for going back to one of the two colours that treasures have support originally in. Still its hilarious they put all of the cards that the commanders they picked normally have and called it mono coloured week.
I love that this came out today. Before I saw this video uploaded, I just put together a mono blue list for the new Melek that's coming out.
This was an absolute blast, what an epic episode. Thank you guys for the switch to paper magic, I love it a lot and it feels much smoother the way you go through turns.
I've always thought about building multicolored commanders as mono coloe decks as a sort of weird what-if so this episode was really fun to watch
Mono blue aragorn is really cool, swirl the Mists just makes the deck go crazy
My feedback to the new format: I like the life gameplay, but I slightly prefer MTGO, since everything is a bit more legible and it handles triggers by itself (also because this was the only channel to do it). Nontheless, great move to freshen things up and I'll also be watching all these new real card episodes and be having a lot of fun doing so.
Love paper magic
Nice setup !
I love the spirit and grayscale for knocked out players!
It isn't a commander clash episode until Crim complains about Phil for 5 minutes, for no reason, with zero push back 😊😊
Webcam play was a nice surprise. Props to the editor. It looks fantastic.
Love love love the new style!
Very clean, minimal overlay.
Very classy!
I've watched every episode, and I'm torn. On one hand, the production quality is great. Hats off to everyone for a job well done. On the other hand, MTGO is an engine that enforces rules and clarifies the game state by displaying data: phase names, priority, cards in hand/library, all of that stuff. MTGO games also let you show us the hands at all times. That's a really unique aspect of Commander Clash that I would sorely miss if paper play was permanent. Finally, I'm concerned that paper play is limited to whatever cards each crew member owns. I feel like being able to play almost any card made on MTGO via CardHoarder rentals facilitates all of the jank themes, and I get to see cards that most people would rarely buy, much less play.
All in all I think I prefer MTGO to this format, but once again, great job.
Welcome back Phil! Excited for this season so much!
You guys are awesome! Thanks for the consistent mtg bangers. 💕
This season not being on MTGO is a little sad for me, just because no one likes change, but at least no one's going to time out.
I do really miss seeing their hands. It added a lot to the gameplay that the other channels that make gameplay don't have.
Obviously a lot of work went into the production here with the lighting and getting the cards. I am very impressed.
poor Seth missed out that he gets 4 triggers of the Runescar demon
In terms of irl playing the editing is superb! I can follow what's happening. My only critique is that the volume of the sound effects is too loud.
Loving this format and editing. Great to see you all playing like this.
I want to see the cabinet behind Richard!! It's so COOLLLLL!
I loved this. Everyone actually got to go off.
This was such a blast. I've never seen anyone as excited to trigger Soul Warden as Crim :D
Loving the new look of Commander Clash! Good job, editors!
I was wondering how commander clash was going to continue with so few of the new Commander sets being ported to MTGO. Webcams! I love it. Thanks for keeping current, boys.
I love the change to paper! Sooooo much easier to follow the gameplay, and spelltable is how I play so I’m already a fan!
I understand the reason for the format change but I'm not sold on it yet, I will miss the inevitability of the MODO win. It also was a distinguishing factor between you and other Commander video series on TH-cam. Great game, and great theme!
I'll miss MTGO as watching you guys every week helped me learn more about the stack and card interactions but I enjoy the group so looking forward to more games paper can give you!
I feel like Phill has no idea how to balance the power level of his deck with the other players. Consistently way higher power decks than his opponents.
Have to say, zooming in to read a card worked better digitally - even if it was MTGO!
So, about colourless Korvald: how about 4 mono-coloured Korvolds against each other? "Korvold feast" day, or something like that. 😂
I love the switch to paper games, it really speeds up the pace of plays and leads to a more engaging viewing experience! Great first game, can't wait for more!
"You offended me first." Lmao
This is so funny, I built a mono green atraxa deck as a joke and this manifests into my life.
Phil also forgot ancient green warden doubles landfall triggers
I love that it is paper magic.
Please continue to do so, it just hits my feels so much better.
Probably because I only play in paper.
Love the webcam format and the editing of the video! I know it’s probably more work than mtgo episodes, but it’s worth it!
The fact that Crim one with sort of body and mind is incredible... The one card everyone dogs on him about being useless ended up being incredibly relevant🎉
Loved the new paper and webcam format! Clash On!
I love this method for Commander Clash. I watch almost every video mtggoldfish posts but rarely watch Commander Clash because I hate MTGO.
Crim the Judge is really showing in this video.
Amazing episode crew! Just a note the sound effects felt a little loud.
Also I though the crew banned the one ring after last season ended?
I was nervous when you announced the switch to paper, but the production value and cam-switches are very good. Definitely looking forward to the season!
Being an avid watcher for many seasons, I never liked the in person ones. But you guys seemed to do it really well this time. Great idea zooming into the cards, because that was my biggest issue.
I liked the spelltable setup but less sound effects. Great as always. 👍
Less than 15 minutes in and Rules Lawyer Crim has entered the fray
Love the change to paper! Especially with the way the editing is done, it makes it super easy to follow and I definitely want to see more CC in paper!
I kinda dislike that you all are playing in paper. I really liked that you were on mtgo because it meant less mistakes from confusing board states
Agreed. Paper Webcam IMO is kinda miserable to watch.
Good thing you don’t make the decisions then
Excellent production, guys! Love seeing you all play paper magic.
Who knew sword of body and mind was the best card for soul sisters!
Amazing the difference in play pattern when you don't have MOTO holding your hand on all the triggers and etb if/thens. Fun video.
THIS DESERVS SO MUCH MORE ATTENTION! THE PERFECT AMOUNT OF EVERYTHING. Maybe a little less aound effect volume, but else? LOVE IT!
the different monocolor mats are really clean looking!
Paper is neat, I like that it would allow you to run some of those sweet old cards that MTGO either never added or that are defective, but it's unfortunate that we'll have more misplays, hopefully they aren't super impactful, but missing stuff is normal in a game this complex.
I love Oloro and that was a great showing for Crim! I’m excited to see more this week :)
I love the shift to paper but one thing I found annoying is the iPhone ding every time Crim gained life.
The one thing I'd like to see this season more than anything else is a return to Clash On being a punishment.
LMAO now I understand the comments about Seths shuffling :D
Great to see Phil back in the new season.
Paper Clash with top notch goldfish editing. Very Nice.
I love this; webcam is so much better than MTGO. Keep it up!
woooow Goldfish crew on paper?! you love to see it🎉
