Essentially the film crew built a complete 4 wall set within the existing house, of which nothing is seen. Seems like they could have done the same thing on a film stage. Makes no sense.
You are thinking of Lyme Park in Cheshire (built in the 16th century and added on to in 1720- that was Pemberly in 1995. ) Basildon Park (in this film as Netherfield) is similar and was built in 1776.
