Matthew MacFadyen is such an underrated actor! For me he's been the best Mr. Darcy of all the adaptations I've seen. I wish he'll get lots more of great roles in the future!

malu vikca I think they also forgot about the lack of electricity and running toilets and the in between moments where there was nothing to do. Also family standing. Why can’t people just like the modern times??

Lulubell lol when i heard her in the hunger games i thought she was British (thanks to this film) and was putting on a bad American accent like Sam clafin
It's easy to romanticize this time period, and I love this movie, but I definitely can't relate to people in the comments saying "I wish I had been born in this time period". Women had no rights, no way to earn money of their own if they didn't find a husband to support them. This movie and novel are a romantic fantasy that didn't often happen at the time- usually women ended up with men who treated them like property (because technically they were, esp once they were married) and had no way out (divorce was scandalous). I am so thankful I was born when and where I was, because if my options were marry a man who may or may not respect me or become poor and lose everything I have, I'd be a very unhappy and very unfulfilled person. Yeah, dating sucks now, but I don't think that the formalities of the time period made the 18th century any less chauvinist. Dating sucks period, no matter the century.
Exactly. Can't be born in a wrong or right century actually. Whenever you're born, you have to deal with the circumstances, and just like Jane Austen, break through.
Let's not forget the characters belong to the upper class, the commoners, the period's equivalent to many of us, didn't enjoy the amusements, fine foods and joys portrayed in the novel. Imagine being the servants back in the day!
I think the biggest theme with all of these classic stories that we find so appealing, is the "delay of gratification". How long they wait to form a connection, how subtle they show their affection, how true and genuine it is. That's what melts people's hearts. When a couple makes out on the first date, that anticipation is just lost, and cheapens the relationship. Let alone when people hook up after barely knowing each other, that just baffles my mind. We have so much to learn from this century!
How can they create so much of intimacy and chemistry with so less touching or speaking. The actors must be in love, and if not, they are not actors, they are pure magicians
Macfayden's comments about bowing were spot on. Every scene in which Darcy meets or parts from Lizzie involves a bow and courtsy, adding a sense of dignity, civility and respect for each other -- all of which are long forgotten in our modern world.
Matthew MacFadyen, speaking truth to power! Say what you like, y'all, but it was so much better treating each other with this kind of respect and dignity
Believe me literally any unmarried woman would lose her mind if a guy treated her with this level of respect. If he could put off the fact that modern society is going to make fun of him for it and do it anyway because he liked a woman he would have a very high odds of being able to marry her as long as other practical concerns were in a reasonable state of order.
I love the manners of the regency period and the elegance but while I love Jane Austin, I wouldn't like to live back then. Women had no rights and were little more than property. Plus, no plumbing! 😱
To all of you who say you're born in the wrong century, please consider your own financial status. If you're middle, or lower middle class (like almost all of us writing here, or even simply blue colar) your life would much more likely be that of the household staff as a maid. Regency England did not yet have a big, rich middle class yet. Also, no wi-fi, think about that! :p
+ideljenny - that doesn't matter as the same rules apply to all people in England in that era as no law prevents good manners, furthermore the industrial revolution would come to propel a great many folk into the high life, whereas in other nations they were a century behind !

The film is performed in a very touching manner, music, glances, all this small moments makes it a very romantic and beautiful. Even if it is not quite accurate with the book version. I love it.
As a teen in the late 60s I LOVED going g to dances It was so exciting o seeing who would ask me to dance. Some of my happiest memories. I also loved how in the past everyone knew the social dances. Even my daughter thinks that was “ so cool”
Gosh that really is cool, lucky to be you!:) can i ask: if you had one etiquette rule to recommend, that young people today should reincorporate in dating, what would it be?
I just realized that this P&P and the P&P series from 1995 had the same dance choreographer. I recognize her. Something Gibson. Guess there aren't that many experts on Regency dances...
This movie is absolutely the BEST! I own the movie & have watched it at least 100x and still can never tire of it. Love everything about it! The actors are amazing, the best cast really. Absolutely love Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen 😍❤ wish they were in another movie together.
+Angelica Correa I wish too! It would be so romantic! That's what is lost nowdays! The romantism and the true nature of each sex: Males to be knightly males and females be authentic females, true ladies!
It still can be like that. I kind of feel that that was the way dating was for me. Both my husband and I are proper people. We met at class in college, he asked me to a dance where people actually did real partner dancing like ballroom and swing, he followed proper rules and conduct. We were very proper with physical affection, making the first time we held hands on our second date, which was an orchestra concert, a magical moment. We didn't make out until after we were married, which made every kiss he gave me, whether it was on the cheek, forehead, or lips, out of genuine affection and not a desire to satisfy physical pleasure.
I wish men nowadays had a sense of honor. There are few real gentlemen in our society today. Furthermore, I wish men actually COURTED ladies rather than "hit-it-and-quit-it."
And I wish that women were not so bold and promiscuous that men no longer know how to behave towards them properly because they will be accused of being gay or with the kind of feminism we have today, being a rapist.
cio brombe woman like a rich life, a money life. This natural to all the females, and all the female things. This is not wrong. It is nature. Romance is nothing Humble and powerless without money
Decades ago, I am 72, I courted a young woman for quite some time in a very innocent way. We never touched. Then one day we went to the mall together, and as we were walking from my parked car to the mall entrance we had to cross the traffic lane of the parking lot. There were a few cars and we instinctively, without thought, reached out for one another and touched hands. I had, and I believe that she had, what I can only describe as an exhilarating moment, a physically discernible sensation. It was both memorable and unique. I have never forgotten the moment nor the young woman. KLT PS; thank you for reminding me of that moment. I have seen the movie more than once and had never associated the moment at the carriage with my moment years ago. Thank you. We the people can still do this today. The young woman and I were attending a Bible college and the scripture that worked for me, the one that I kept thinking, was "it is good for a man not to touch a woman". As it is with many things, the answer is simple, the doing of it is the challenge. KLT
I understand the interviewee's opinion. Though my problem with the 2005 version is that they showed the Bennets as POOR(and I mean tenant farmer or laborer poor). The Bennets are still landed gentry. They have their own carriage, which means you should have at least 2 to 7 thousand pounds a year. They are just poor compared to other landed gentry(like the Bingleys, especially the Darcys). So my philosophy is that , if you want to look at accurate costuming look at 1995 version(though one inaccuracies is that for day wear they all should have long sleeves and be high necked.)and if you want to have more "feels" go watch the 2005 version. Also note that the average wage in regency era is 30 pounds a year( not sure about the exact amount ).
I am also a fan of this version of the movie. We should all take note that the happiness of so many of the characters, just like so many of us, was nearly destroyed by a few small misunderstood comments, glances, or, as in this case, the actions of friends and family. Therefore, establishment of proper communication is essential for any relationship to begin or flourish and especially last. If not for some key cross points and Darcy's persistence the story would have been lost. Great writing!
Keira in 2005: “The first skin on skin touch.. And I think today we don’t think twice about that at all..” 3:49 Me in 2021: Wellll.. Let me tell you about this bat in China
Fascinating. So many of you have mentioned that you think or believe or you wish you were born in that period. It's the propriety, the manners they all used, the etiquette and the decorum that was normal for everyone in every- day life. I think that well-enough and wonderful; and frankly, I'm in agree- ment. But, - 🙃 there are an entire host of many other 'amenities' that will come with it. I really don't believe you would care for. At all. Well, that being said, I don't believe any screen adaptation will ever ever equal the experience of reading the book. But this is wonderful.
I dont touch a lot of people often, even friends. I think of touch as very intimate thing. I even hug very rarely, but when i do it's with all my emotions.
overall i rarely see a movie from an actor from british can be as great as a Hollwood artist but this time i was really impressed with a well-crafted film Congratulations to all the producers and actors who brought the character to life so effectively
😮😮My grandmother(born 1909) told me she never loved my grandfather( born 1903). She liked him but that’s it. She needed a husband to survive and he had a good job. (She was 15) They remained friends for life but they lived apart most of their marriage. Grandpa said she gave him 3 kids so it was fine with him. Those days never seemed romantic to me. 😢
it wasn't all as great as it seems in movies. Had you lived in those times you would probably be a poor maiden waiting for any man to take care of you who probably wouldn't be the best husband. People married for business and status those days, not for love. That's what makes P&P so unique, because Lizzie was ahead of her time. it's appealing and romantic to watch, but trust me, you wouldn't want to live in those times!
1313fina me too I wish I was born during the Victorian era, the men back than were such gentleman compared to the 21st century who are not quite well mannered. Hopefully one day I find my own Mr. Darcy 😊 lol I'm so weird
The only thing is that I don't believe we should regret the era we live in now, or what we've learned! We have so many privileges that we, women or men, couldn't have back then. We take what we see from the romantic aspect and form our opinions on how we want others to behave like gentleman or ladies, yet we don't do it ourselves. If you want to find someone like a Darcy or an Elizabeth, first you most likely have to have the same values and beliefs.. I believe I would want to court someone like Charles or Darcy, but first I have to see if my moral compass is a clean as theirs , and do we have the same values and beliefs? People, we seem to forget we need to work on being the best we can be and not expect what is impossible for us at the moment, to be what we think we deserve in a man when in fact we even lack those things, doesn't mean that we should go for a Wickham, but the problem with Elizabeth and Darcy in the beginning is that they were both very judgemental, in the end they helped open both of each others eyes to how harsh a mean spirited they had been to others and one another...They learned from each other. With time and pure thoughts and actions we can achieve anything we willingly and lovingly put our hearts to, but only if it is out of a pure nature of God, or else we might never be satisfied with life, or if we are it is mist likely a delusionment or pleasure that will eventually burn out till we try to find another and than another, cover up one addiction with the other is what we might end up doing, but that will lead to destruction, the differences with Darcy and Elizabeth is they figured out the problems and the reasons they had their problems were their pride and her prejudice, they admitted their faults and confessed and asked each others forgiveness, they dealt with their problems when they realized they had them and tackled them head on, they changed their ways for love and because love is a key to showing us when we are wrong without. Finding a Mr. Darcy isn't the deepest concern of any womans life, it isn't even really a necessity, its finding friends and family who love and support you, who want the best for you, and who help you as much as you should help them. What I'm saying is pure love is hard work, and selfless, but it is also wonderfully worth it, and in the end of the day of this earth, the best you could ever find! Jesus Christ is the purest love I know, and I believe He will find me a pure love in a husband someday as well, and we will worship Christ together..if God will, it is a part of His will for me! If not, it is still part of Gods will for me and Him, Amen! 💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗

Matthew Macfaden is the best Mr Darcy and Keira Knightley is the best Lizzie... I have been watching this version of P&P many many times 😁😁❤❤❤
I just realized that this P&P and the P&P series from 1995 had the same dance choreographer. I recognize her. Something Gibson. Guess there aren't that many experts on Regency dances...
i also felt in the similarity in style, and exact same pauses. it is beautiful part of the movie.
So many comments about Matthew’s voice and I couldn’t agree more
Here in 2020...awe....read the book 1000' times and saw every movie made. By far, this is the best! Kira and Matthew!
This movie is absolutely the BEST! I own the movie & have watched it at least 100x and still can never tire of it. Love everything about it! The actors are amazing, the best cast really. Absolutely love Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen 😍❤ wish they were in another movie together.
Yo la veo al menos unas 4 o 5 veces por semana!! La. Amoooooo 😍❤️😍❤️😍
1:53 Mr. Darcy standing up for Elizabeth when she enters the room has same energy as Harry standing up for Ginny
I wish dating was like this today😔
so true :/
+Angelica Correa I wish too! It would be so romantic! That's what is lost nowdays! The romantism and the true nature of each sex: Males to be knightly males and females be authentic females, true ladies!
+Angelica Correa it would be awesome like just touch of a hand would make my heart melt
It is in some cultures.
I’ve watched the hand flex over and over again😀. Best film ever.
3:42 that slightest smile
hey hoy know the song???
I so wish we still had a appreciation for courtship. It's such a tragedy that's it's lost on our generation.
He is so handsome in the role of Mr. Darcy 💘
mcfayden is always a head taller than everyone
Nearly 6.3..
Mr. Darcy is the core of the film !I mean the actor and Keira as well !!! The rest are also perfect .
This is the best version of this book. In love with Mr. Darcy
Matthew's voice 💞😍😍😍😍😍😍
3:27 THIS scene is my everything! I mean, it's so little but it has a big impact. i'm dead.
I fell in love again by Mr Darcy with this clip 🥰
I wish men nowadays had a sense of honor. There are few real gentlemen in our society today.
Furthermore, I wish men actually COURTED ladies rather than "hit-it-and-quit-it."
And I wish that women were not so bold and promiscuous that men no longer know how to behave towards them properly because they will be accused of being gay or with the kind of feminism we have today, being a rapist.
But you forget women today prefer to be paid than courted.
@@ciobrombe825 Paid? Well like attracts like....
@@susankenneally4618 Really? In this scenario one has lady parts at their disposal, another one money to spend. It wouldn't work if they were like.
cio brombe woman like a rich life, a money life.
KLT
PS; thank you for reminding me of that moment.
KLT
I love this movie. Beautifully done. Matthew MacFadyen ,is a awesome actor. And he seems to be a beautiful human being. I love Jim❤️❤️❤️❤️
Well now I’m not just in love with Mr Darcy, but also with the actor 🤣
My favorite movie ever!!!!
Aah I love these behind the scenes details...
This movie is always going to be close to my heart ♥
Mr.Darcy is so simple , his smile and way of talking is so cute and gentleman like.
I just watched the movie for the first time omg I can't breathe it was so beautiful aaaaaaaaaaaa
Such a great movie.
The actresses and actors have loved acting Pride and Prejudice putting in their best and thats the reason for this successful Novel in scree🙌🙌🙌
I am also a fan of this version of the movie.
We should all take note that the happiness of so many of the characters, just like so many of us, was nearly destroyed by a few small misunderstood comments, glances, or, as in this case, the actions
of friends and family.
Therefore, establishment of proper communication is essential for any relationship to begin or flourish and especially last. If not for some key cross points and Darcy's persistence the story would have been lost. Great writing!
i don’t wish to live in this time period but i do wish we were more sophisticated and polite
This is the most perfectly incandescently beautiful movie ;)
Это лучшая экранизация романа Джейн Остин! Браво Мэтью Макфейден и Кира Найтли! Лучшие мистер Дарси и Элизабет Беннет! Великолепный фильм!
Keira in 2005: “The first skin on skin touch.. And I think today we don’t think twice about that at all..” 3:49
Me in 2021: Wellll.. Let me tell you about this bat in China
Fascinating. So many of you have mentioned that you think or believe or you wish you were born in that period.
It's the propriety, the manners they all
used, the etiquette and the decorum that was normal for everyone in every-
day life. I think that well-enough and
wonderful; and frankly, I'm in agree-
ment. But, - 🙃 there are an entire host
of many other 'amenities' that will come with it.
The hand touch was so important and priceless
overall i rarely see a movie from an actor from british can be as great as a Hollwood artist but this time i was really impressed with a well-crafted film Congratulations to all the producers and actors who brought the character to life so effectively
Can I just say I love the background music in this video? It's so catchy.
Fyi: A Postcard To Henry Purcell is the song when Elizabeth dances with Mr. Darcy
Matthew is sooo charming!!
If time travel was possible, I would go back to the 18th Century and give Austin a tight hug! 💌💘
It's the 19th century and these are only the top 1% of British society.
Austen finished the writing of Pride and Prejudice on the 18th century (1797). Only the book was writing in 1813...
@Heather Chandler precisely in 1797!
What a classy period of time ❤️
Can someone please tell me the song at the end. When Darcy and Elizabeth held hands! oh my gosh!
Please, I want to know that too.
Best romantic movie EVER!!!!!!!!
Behind Sense & Sensibility (Ang Lee), this film is my favourite of all time.
И Кира и Мэттью просто само очарование!!!!
that last scene is the bee's knees, Darcy's number
Does anyone know that song that played when Darcy took Elizabeth's hand? Please!!
Director looks so handsome. You should be an actor there.
I'm definitely born in the wrong time period. Damnit!:(
+1313fina seriously me too
and then I wounder why I'm single
+1313fina I highly recommend watching 'austenland'... hilarious, eye-opening film :D
it wasn't all as great as it seems in movies.
Himechii Yehet She was probably too much of a romantic. Judging by her novels, she held high standards for men, just anyone wouldn't do..
1313fina me too I wish I was born during the Victorian era, the men back than were such gentleman compared to the 21st century who are not quite well mannered. Hopefully one day I find my own Mr. Darcy 😊 lol I'm so weird
Omg the extra sound effects 😂
I like the BBC series Pride and Prejudice. It is amazing!
This is truly beautiful. If only the world was like this today.
Favorite Book and Movie eveeeer! *-*
Love the movie, love the romance unfolding.... I need so much more of this!
Matthew so amazing 👏 he is the best Mr Darcy!
Yessss!!!! ❤️😍❤️😍And Keyra she is wonderfull 😍❤️😍❤️
@@melodiasinger Absolutely 💯
I read the title and thought to myself,,, "I didn't know BTS was in this movie, especially the soundtrack." 🤦🏿♀️
His voice 😱😍
That's why I wish I was born in the 18th century. Things were at the same time simpler and more difficult than now.
Darcy isn't the deepest concern of any womans life, it isn't even really a necessity, its finding friends and family who love and support you,
who want the best for you, and who help you as much as you should help them. 💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗
I live this novel because the man's was so gentleman don't see this offer in this days
