    Sorry for late reply for some reason it shows up in my notifications but not on the video. I dont want to discourage anyone from a project but this one is a lot of work so best be prepared. The 1in green foam board can be bought at Lowes, you may need to get the big sheet because this project uses alot of foam. The dowel rods, spackle, glue, and wood filler I got at Ace Hardware. The paint I got from Joanne's. You can NOT use spray paint, there's a chemical in it that melts the foam. Sanding Foam sounds like nails on chalk board may want some music and headphones when you get to that part. If you plan on wearing it make sure that you test to see if your head can fit through all of the foam cutouts before putting everything together. If its just a tad too small you can stand down the edges. Never grab the cage by the handle in front that will break the foam. I never really explained how to put it on but since the hole is a hexagon the largest stretch would be from one corner to the opposite corner, I measured the widest part of my head which happened to be from nose to back of my head, and matched that distance on the corner to corner distance of the hexagon. You most likely will have to adjust my template to fit your own measurements if you plan to wear it. Good luck!

      @VesaliusNine
      The edge measurements are in centimeters. The dowel holes are in inches. Normally I try to keep everything in centimeters but the dowels diameter are identified in inches so the holes have to be in inches as well.

    Awesome tutorial! I have to ask, about how heavy is this? Would it be reasonable to wear for a whole weekend as part of a cosplay? I'm trying to figure out whether or not I need to downscale a bit or use different materials.

    • @oldhunterulric3257
      @oldhunterulric3257  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Its not very heavy maybe like five to ten pounds. But it is very big and gets in the way when walking around. I probably wouldn't recommend wearing it anywhere for just how much of a pain it is to navigate through crowds and doors. Also it is somewhat fragile so any bumping might break it.

    A quick question about the crest measurements, I'm looking at what you have in the Google drive, and it doesn't make much sense. If you could clear things up that would be great.

    By the way, could you please tell me what dimensions you used for the dowel pieces that form the handle? I couldn't find anything about it in your schema.

    • @oldhunterulric3257
      @oldhunterulric3257  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      So outer bar was 6in and the two side bars 4in. I drilled 1in deep holes to glue them in place.

      @@oldhunterulric3257 Thank you! I used slightly smaller dowels for mine, but it's coming along really well. It wouldn't be possible without your tutorial, so thanks again.

    A question, how do you think you would go about making the blunderbuss? I've been wracking my brain on that one for a while now but I'm still stumped on quite a bit of it.

    • @oldhunterulric3257
      @oldhunterulric3257  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well that depends, do you want it to work like the gun in game or just a prop for looks?

    • @ArnoldCore
      @ArnoldCore 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@oldhunterulric3257 just a prop for looks. I already have an idea for the base frame I just have to get the dimensions down. Not to big of a problem. The problem comes from the barrel. I want to make the gun out of foam but the barrel looks odd, especially the flair at the end of the barrel. The smaller bit I might just make out of plywood but those also look tricky. Any tips?

    • @oldhunterulric3257

      I have not tried this myself, but I would probably try worbla. It's a thermoplastic that you can mold after you heat it up and hardens when it cools off. Again haven't used it myself and it's kind of expensive, but I imagine that would be your best bet to get the curves and layers out of the barrel. Since the worbla has a hard time keeping shape while it hardens you could probably use craft foam for curves or thin plywood for straights to stick in between two layers of worbla.
      th-cam.com/video/VZl65FRUZnw/w-d-xo.html
      For a cheaper method I would take a PVC pipe use thin plywood to glue around the pipe into an octagon then layer it where anything sticks out and use a carving knife or dremel to cut in the curves and details. Maybe you could use craft foam instead of the plywood, but it would be harder to cut without it tearing or stretching.

      PNG is the standard file format for things like this, but not sure if it really makes that much of a difference. Thanks for the files!

    Would you ever sell these as a commission request? And how much would that cost? Because I'm very inexperienced and I haven't seen anyone else making this prop.

    • @oldhunterulric3257
      @oldhunterulric3257  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Short answer, no sorry. I am looking into selling props, but right now I don't have the time or resources.
      If I were to sell this one we would be looking at 15 hours to make × 5$ an hour = 75$ for work. The material cost is around 35-45$. And shipping cost; because of its size it would requires UPS which can be 20-40$, even worse if it going out of the states. So an estimated grand total around 130$ 160$ and that's being generous.
      When I do start selling, I probably won't have anything this big. Its way too much work, sorry.
