I made my first saw cleaver with this tutorial and template 5 years ago and after many cons, it's still looking pretty good! She's gotten a lot of compliments over the years. Got a few broken teeth and creases that add to the look, but I'm about to make a new one since my skills have improved.

Really awesome work! You need to put a lever (like from a bicycle brake) to engage the lock, and add a flint & striker to the hinge so that you can legit look like a tru badass when transforming dat weapoon
One small additional detail should be included: Per game mechanics, the Saw Cleaver deals bonus damage to beasts since it is serrated. However, you only attack with the serrated edge in SHORT FORM. If you look closely at the item in game, the blade is actually sharpened on the non-serrated side, and just like you described, just like a shaving blade. Attacking with the weapon in it's transformed state uses the flat, non-serrated side. But it's still a sharp edge in game like a shaving blade, so beveling the long edge would be a nice addition. Going to Michaels to get supplies now!

Here's an idea that would be fun to try: Prototype's Blade arm. Would be neat to see how you would be able to make a weapon that is basically like a mutation.
for the blade I recommend 'LeadBelcher' from the Games Workshop web-store and for the weathering effect use the paints like 'Agrax Earthshade' or 'Nuln Oil.'

Can you think of a way, for the removal and insertion of the pins to be automated by a press of a button or push of a thumb/finger lever? i cannot think of anything but i really want to make this automated if possible.
L Lawliet Create a trigger that pulls the pin when pressed attached to the handle. Make the pin holes bigger cause they don't need to stick in just fit and to slide out when needed. If your trigger and pin are sturdy and well attached, it shouldn't fall out off the slot while attached to the handle and you should be able to swing transform it while pressing the trigger and lock it in place by releasing it.
For anybody who wants to make a saw cleaver themselves, using a mechanism like Man At Arms: Reforged would be a lot easier and smoother for transforming the prop
Great design and build but could i ask that you please start putting dimensions on in future as a guide? The templates i printed off for this made it turn out way bigger than anticipated

I just found your channel and, wow, you're amazing! You're definitely going to get a lot of views from doing bloodborne weapons. My personal recommendation would be to make The mercy blades (very simple blades that just need a dowel to be attached), or maybe something bigger, like the hunter axe, ludwig's holy blade or the burial blade! ONE QUESTION THOUGH: You have a lot of video game stuff on your channel. Are you an avid gamer?
Nice video, although you did make a slight mistake with the hinge mechanism. Also, the blade is double edged. In the game, the hinge locks thanks to a small lever that sticks out the back of the hinge. You'll see if it you closely look at concept art for the weapon. I'm gonna use this video to try and make the Saw-Spear :3
Could you try and make a (steampunk) shotgun or anything like it? I am doing a Bloodborne inspired Plague Doctor (using a miniature Saw Cleaver and your plague mask, with actual stitchings), and the shotgun is a bit tricky.Anyway, thanks for the tutorial!

I got a warm blood gemstone infused with mine, it does 9.78% more physical attack now :D

Along with the darker watered down paints, you could also stain the cloth in tea or coffee to get some more of that worn old look!

I think with a bit of work you could of done the clip design from the game, but it still looks bad ass man.
