How to Diagnose and Fix Service Stabilitrak Traction Control Problem 2011 - 2015 Chevy Cruze

  • About a week ago I started having intermittent issues with my 2013 1.4L turbo Chevrolet Cruze Eco where it would suddenly lose power and the message Service Stabilitrak appeared in the console. In this video I will walk you through the entire process I took to find the cause of the issue and SPOILER, it was resolved. I hope you find this video informative and it helps you as well!
Your codes may not be the same as mine as there can be many reasons for the stabilitrak message to appear. After you diagnose your vehicle, use the codes you get to start researching the possible causes. Good luck!

Man I’ve never touched a car in my life for ANYTHING but I needed to get to work and my car was shaking like crazy because everything you replaced in this video was horribly wrong with my car. The earliest my mechanic could take a look at this was next week so I was desperate. You listed every single thing needed in the comment section so I went to autozone and picked it all up and fixed it myself! I don’t have much money but I’m sure you saved me a good bit. If you comment your Venmo I just want to send you a small appreciation for this perfectly detailed video.

I’m an actual certified GM ASE mechanic. I only use the original plug AC plug GM recommends, no anti-seize on the plug threads and use a torque wrench. Putting anti-seize may cause you to over tighten the spark plug threads! I put dielectric at the tips of the plug boots before I install the new coil over the plugs. I only use the original GM OEM coils because these cheap aftermarket coils will leave you stranded! Great diagnostic! FYI, I change GM spark plugs at 100,000 miles. I just replaced plugs on a 2014 Cruze with 87,000 miles and plugs were worse than yours! Glad you got it fixed!

I actually have this problem haven’t driven my car in about 2years. I changed the coil pack, map sensor bc that’s what it was giving me codes for however the car still has the same lights on this video.
On idle the rpm needle is still then kind of moves up and down.
Oh I also changed the abs module and had it reprogrammed (that was bc the breaks locked when they were stomped on to avoid a car collision)
      Any further ideas recommendations?

THE ENGINES ARE ALL METRIC. ON ALMINUM HEAD, YOU USE ANTI-SEIZE. I USE THE ZZ COILS. HOTTER SPARK. DOW CORNING 5 ON THE INSIDE OF THE COILS. AIRCRAFT TECH, ASE CERTIFIED. NGK PLUGS ARE MUCH BETTER THAN THE AC DELCOS.

Hey guys this same thing happened to my car ! Chevy Cruze 2016 . Took it to my mechanic turns out I needed new spark plugs and a new ignition coil . It driving perfect now that it’s fixed . My codes were p304 and p303. . For those wondering if it’s safe to drive I would say yes only if you absolutely have to because I had to drive it for a week before getting it fixed . Drive carefully please my car would stall when I would accelerate so keep in mind be safe while getting on the expressway . ❤️ This video saved me thanks for the information .

This is great. For several months I'd been having episodes in my 2014 Cruze where it lost power expectantly, and/or the check engine light came on. Very recently, it started bucking and surging as if there was water in the gas, and then the Service Stabilitrak message came on through the console. All I could think of was this was going to be a very expensive repair. However, I found your video where you had similar issues. My Cruze has only 91K miles, but when I removed the plugs, I found they were almost complete shot (the center electrode was wire-thin). Although not 100% sure it was part of the problem I also replaced the ignition coil. It took about an hour from beginning to end, and the car runs like new again. Many thanks.

It could be plenty of other things don’t just fall on the idea that you have a misfire. Intake manifold on this car has a known issue between the technicians community. The intake manifold fails prematurely causing the valve cover to tear a hole into the pcv grommet, forcing oil out of your seals such as the gasket on the valve cover itself. Oil will also collect in the spark plug cylinder housing if this is your issue.

Same issue. 2014 1.4 117k original owner. Plugs 1 and 2. Not sure where the water is coming from but i beleive ii is getting in through the top of the coil pack. I could see a water stain and some slight seperation in the top plastic surround. The coil spring in number 2 had major discoloration. Way to much rust for a one time water leak. Thanks for the video

Had those problems with the chevy cruze turbo, stared with the, #3 plug, didn't change the plugs, knox sensor, turbo charger, engine light codes, change the plugs and the problem solved.
Watch out for the crooked mechanics, wanted over $500 to repair vehicles, coste under $40 for plugs.

Thanks to DeuceLiter and Truckin Blake for the video AND the commentary!!
So for me (not being the professional mechanic) I switched out the ignition coil, spark, and checked my ECM for mutagen (green slimy glowing water:-) and still I had the same symptoms!
I finally take my cruze to my family mechanic and come to find out, the doggone squirls have been eating the cable wires!!
This was obvious to my mechanic, not so much for me! Long story short, take it to a mechanic or spray some squirl be gone in your engine bay! 😅

Great helpful video. I was about to take my car to the dealer to get checked out...then I watched this video....long story short you probably saved me a lot of $$$ As we all know the dealer would of said I had to change everything under the hood costing me probably nearly $1000k. I did order a new ignition coil well it turned out that when I put the plus in a few months ago in the #4 plug cover in the coil the spring was not making good contact...so I just took a screwdriver straightened out the spring...problem solved. Thanks man.

Nice video showing the causes. Water, dust, shock can cause any number of issues. The water got in there past the rubber seal, and had no way of getting out. Boiled and rusted when stopped. The same issues can affect the wiring harness and connectors.
