- Hello!
Today I talk to you about my beloved 2012 BMW X5 (e70) 35d Diesel SUV. This car is amazing and is a real tank. She's a worrier :)
Like every car, it has strength and weaknesses and this video I try to highlight that as much as I can and what I observed during my ownership of this car.
Enjoy! :-) - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ
Until recently i had a e70 4.8i, fully optioned, and it had a fancy adaptive power steering which was hydraulic and electric assist i believe, and on the hwy the steering ratio was slow and heavy, but in t8ght streets or carparks the steering was light and super fast ratio (less than 1 turn to full lock). Made the vehicle feel very light and nimble.
Also the ZF trans need regular servicing. Had mine se4viced eith new solenoids etc and it was amazing. Very smooth and intuitive in D, but in sport mode it became an animal with lightning fast shifts and very fun to drive.
I really miss my e70 and want to get back into one again, considering deleted diesel for torque and fuel economy but ideally a 35i for peak power potential and arguably one of BMW's most reliable engines.
I miss my e70 too… such a handsome car! If you can get a deleted diesel, I would take that over the 35i! That engine is sublime.
Good video , I watched it all of it , what year the last one for BMW X5 35d ? 2017 I think ? And also would you buy other one ? ( bmw diesel ) still have it ?
Thank you for watching! I know the F15 is the last model that had a diesel variant but I’m not 100% sure on when was the last year of it. I sold mine few months ago but I would definitely buy another one in the future and I would most likely go with the E70 model again!
Of the 3 engines between 2011-2013 I have all 3 options to buy around the same mileage and price. I hear an extended warranty a must for the 50. In your opinion which do you like the best?
I would stay away from the 50i produced in those years. I would get the inline 6 gasoline engine. Why? It’s easier to maintain in the stock form and performance is better overall. The diesel is fun to have but maintenance in stock form is pricy and it’s a bit slow. It has a character that’s for sure though.
tune and upgrade those twin turbos and this thing is a rocket
Definitely if I buy one again. Sold this one few weeks ago!
Is there a specific reason why you sold it if you liked it soo much ? Was it giving problem !? I heard those x5s gives alot of problem… i have one i want to buy right now 2012 220,000km tuned stage 1
Thanks for reaching out! Couple reasons I sold it! First, I can’t seem to hold onto a car more than 2 years 😅 second, I replaced the thermostat and quickly realized how much of a pain is to work on this car because of the EGR and all emissions related items sitting on and around the engine. If you’re ok with deleting the emissions related stuff then go ahead and buy it!! It’ll be much more reliable, much easier to work on and it’s a blast to drive. I truly loved this car which is unusual for me but I moved for to a 2020 X5 50i and deep down I know the e70 looked better and drove better. The G05 is much more plush (air ride) and the tech is amazing plus bowers and Wilkins audio is incredible. Those are pretty much the highlights of the G05 platform if you get it loaded.
I got the same car but mine has a M Packet from factory and for a diesel trust me its pretty fast
@@lucianolico239 that’s true… for a diesel it’s not bad at all. You can feel the torque in that car.
just tuned and deleeteed my x5d and the engine reeally wakes up in the power department
I sold it few weeks ago. I miss it and I can see myself getting another one later. Luckily buyer is in same city and might delete it. I want to experience a deleted one for sure.
@GrindMyGears
Do it! A fully deleted with stage 1 tune is a completely different animal. Picked up 2.5 mpg. No more messy egr, no more clogged dpf.
How many miles on yours and what’s your asking price (if you haven’t already sold it) ?
138k miles. My asking price was $10k when I sold it few weeks ago!
@@GrindMyGears wow that’s was a good deal!
@GrindMyGears How was the reliability with those miles? Thinking of getting one but co cerned about high mileage.
@@gerrypaolino3459 it was mostly reliable for me but the car had great maintenance records before I bought it. If you can work on cars, then just find a clean one and fix things as they come. No major problems should be expected unless you heavily modify the car or increase boost too much.
What car play did you used? Thanks
Hi! I used andream CarPlay unit. I would recommend the 10” or 12” touch screen upgrade though if you are planning to keep the car for a long time.
Something like this (I don’t know this store but it was first result in google).

Are you still on the original timing chain?
@@Dean-LongSol yup. New owner said he will delete it but I doubt he would change the timing chain just because. No unusual noises or issues that I came across.
@@GrindMyGears thank you
@@GrindMyGears I bought a 2010 4.0d it’s done 100,000 miles
@@GrindMyGears I bought a 2010 4.0d it’s done 100,000 miles
@@Dean-LongSol congratulations! That’s a low mileage one for the year. Is the 4.0d is a 4 liter? Because we only got the 3.0d in the US.
