Great job using the whisker pole. Downwind passages are my favorite. Many sailors hate downwind sailing and will motor. They don't have poles.

Beautiful day! It always seemed that the south coast of RI is either shrouded in fog, or bright clear and windy. Of course, their is the time of year when the weather is changing.
You have a great schedule that allows use of the boat a few days at a time. It’s tough when all you have is weekends during sailing season. Never enough time. CUOTO.

Tim, for a guy that talked about not knowing much about sailing you seem to be doing things very well. If you ever need a crew my wife and I are ready to go. A friend of mine lived on his 32? all summer and home with his parents in winter, Detroit. Also enjoyed your drink when I packet was mentioned. Went thru a bottle of wine. My wife enjoys your tug boat series, but I really enjoy your sailing vids. We own a powerboat currently but look forward to the time we can head south and charter on the islands. Great boat purchase, as we own a Tiara , 30 old boat, but hard to find and like the IP are well respected boats. Enjoy your boat.

You usually want your staysail tacked to the same side as your genoa, so it creates another jet of high pressure, however doing downwind wing on wing, it doesn't make as much of a difference as heading up.

Love your IP Tim! But...wing on wing is for a run. Based on the flag, it looks like your air was on the beam or slightly aft. Perhaps that's an illusion. But if so, in that case, get your heads'l on the starboard side like your main. If it is a run, your stays'l will be hidden by your main...so you can put one or the other (main) away. The cool part about running wing n wing with heads'l and stays'l only is you don't have to worry about an accidental jibe. If you ever need crew, hit me up...I'll send you my sailing resume. Happy to fly to PR...I crew on bluewater deliveries...and I don't charge! It's just fun! I've been watching your tugboat channel for awhile too! Cool content! Happy for you making your dream happen! Very cool indeed! Cheers!

In lighter winds, the key to success is sailing fast angles. Do not sail dead downwind in light air-reach up until you feel some apparent wind from the side. Often the best course may be as much as 40 degrees above straight downwind. You’ll sail extra distance, but you will go so much faster that you’ll arrive downwind sooner, and you’ll have a more enjoyable sail to boot!

Wing and Wing downwind sailing may not be the fastest but it sure can be the hottest, Once you fly your spinnaker you'd look for opportunity's to do so. Lookin good cap!!! Very likely that little headsail isn’t doing much as it’s shadowed behind the main that far downwind. Looks like your poled out genny is pulling nicely though. I’m sure that you know this, but likely your Asym won’t work so well that far downwind. It’s really a reaching sail. Do you have a sock for it? If so, it’s not hard to set it by yourself, you just need to make sure that you run the lines correctly. It’s easy to get them wrong. I’ve done it again and again. . Haha. Happy sailing!! Enjoy Shelter. Get in to Cocles - one of the prettiest anchorages within hundreds of miles.

Great sailing...good to see Chris. Wing on wing is fine...works great. Have to watch visibility though. Think I saw that you had the main boom tied with a preventer. Good move...it's called a boom for a reason...
I know cruising is cruising and is meant to be leasurely, but you might try some experiments on towing the dingy. We found that it produced a lot of drag. In the other hand I sailed a 30 foot boat in the stern wake of a 45' boat for quite a distance using his wake to keep our speed closer to his hull speed than ours ..taking advantage of his sail plan...I bet there is I magic place for the dingy to ride that does the same thing ...might require some trimming and easing on the painter, but if you're cruising...what the heck else have you got to do...right?
Down wind in hot weather is always a trade off. Go fast burn up...go slow and have more air across the deck...
May the wind be at your back....
    Thanks for the ride

The weight of the boat is not the major factor in light wind performance: it's the sail area to wetted surface area ratio. IP's are a bit short of sail area and have woefully innefficient rigs, but are also shoal draught which means lower wetted surface area. The hopeless keel and rudder of the IP along with the low aspect rig and roller furling main mean they definitely don't ever sail well, and are dangerously poor upwind especially in light wind.

Staysail is not really effective in this situation . That staysail is mostly for heavier weather to balance under high winds .Most often used 'instead of' instead of 'in conjunction with ' foresail .

Thank you for watching Robert. It has been a lot of fun playing with the many sail configurations possible on this boat. Since filming this, I have said to Puerto Rico. The winter was much better spent down there. But last month I started sailing back. The trip to Florida was fun and exciting and a little sketchy at times. But I am looking forward to Sailing north to Rhode island in a couple weeks. I hope you stick around and consider subscribing. CUOTO

@@svpaquita I am in northern florida at flagler beach . Retired and currently looking at several IP's in the 38 range . I built my own 69' ketch and sailed it around the world . That cutter rig is ideal for a strongly built boat like yours ( or hopefully mine soon ) . If the wind gets exciting you can just run with your staysail and often make better speeds that you normally do .And i mean just the staysail . Will subscribe for your simple courtesy of responding . Fair winds !
