      The only thing he didn't do that didn't make sense was that he built his own concave contraption when he could have used clamps

    • @ashleyammbo1191
      @ashleyammbo1191 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@smileplz237 The only thing that didn’t make sense to me was the jig/clamping system he built. I’ve never seen somebody induce concave (Not to mention concave on both sides in conjunction with kick tails at the front and back!) into their glue-up using only a crude form that doesn’t actually have a *form* to it (LOL)
      simply relying on strips along the sides to press up while the press applies downward pressure radiating to the edges from the center during gluing seems like it would result in an incredibly poorly made skateboard but that does not appear to be the case???

I would really really really appreciate if if you would reply back because… Not to offend the content creator here but I’m honestly amazed that this type of clamping system works at all and if it does then I’m going to start doing it myself LOL

In the end, my trucks werent straight, one sheet delaminated, and my griptape was frayed around the edges. I plan to make another this summer and im confident that this video will help me perfect my cruiser

    Extra point for the clamping system. Ive done similar things and if the nose is just straight all u have to do is shape the tail and the concave. At the tail u can use clamps but for the concave I'm thinking about using heavy rocks. And it's mostly for people with no workshop. Also I'm thinking about strengthening the board lenghtwise with the help of metalthread. As a cheapversion of Carbon fiber cloth that has been used between the different layers of wood. oh well. there are so many ideas.

  • @MrMeasaftw
    @MrMeasaftw 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yeah, because everybody wants to spend money on
    -Vinyl stencils
    -Airbrush tools
    -Laser cut griptape
    -Router
    -Belt sander
    Eh never fucking mind. I'm just grumpy because of the cringeworthy awkward scripted commentary. I'm making a longboard myself right now. Spent about €15 on making a press. And around €40 for the wood, glue, paint, and clear coat. If the first few boards work out I'll be using fiberglass as well. Wich would probably set me back around €15 extra per deck.

    • @cash_reviews
      @cash_reviews  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm sorry my informational video made you grumpy. If you're serious about woodworking you'll start buying high quality tools which will last you a life time and end up making their money back exponentially. Belt sanders and routers are at least are essential for any good wood shop. Now I'm not saying it can't be done with simpler stuff, it certainly can but it takes way longer. Send me a picture when you're done with yours, I'd love to see your work. Have a good rest of your day, I hope your grumpiness wears off.

    • @MrMeasaftw
      @MrMeasaftw 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      CashedOutBoards Hahahaha, wasn' t expecting a response XD. Hey, the production value on your video's are amazing. But you need to either be doing something (like most of this video) or be more expressive with your hands. Becouse you sitting in 1 position, or standing with your hands in your pockets, doesn' t really make for an inviting and involving viewing eperience. If that makes any sense at all. And I was a little pissed off since I couldnt go to work yesterday, therefore earning less money, therefore getting farther away from that belt sander with every passing minute.
      Also, i'm gonna be using 4 3,4-3,6 mm hardwood plys to make my first board. I' ve got a good press setup now, so theres gonna be concave and angled truck mounts. But i' m pretty sure the board is gonna break becouse the hard wood i bought was a crappy quality. I' m probably gonna invest into better wood in the future, but i hope it's gonna work out.
      Oh and one more thing. I' ve just found out that Hardboard (the stuff that goes under flooring) is the cheapest, and really most usefull material to make lasting and easy to use templates. and probably even a tool to make fiberglass molds. the stuff is like carboard, but more usefull/durable/precise

    Hi, this comment is going to be a bit long, so this is your warning.
    So I'm going to start a local business selling handmade longboard and skateboard decks so I can have at least some income as a teenager. Since money at the start is going to be a bit tight and the fact that Baltic birch doesn't come easily where I live means I will have to work with regular birch. If I put a bit of curve into the board from side to side, would that provide some structural stability or will that just make the board weaker?

  • @Chris-si2lx

    Great video thanks so much for the info. Also I don't know who needs this, but I'd like to bless anyone since you've blessed me. Jesus christ loves you and gave his life on the cross so we could live and have a relationship with god. All we have to do is recognize our sins and ask for forgiveness and believe in jesus christ his son.

    How did you set up the blocks to not only get a rocker camber, but actual concave into it, know what I mean? Your nose and tail are shaped like an actual skateboard deck when it comes to the deck scooping down and then up into the nose, how did you achieve the down bend before the up into the nose itself??

    Wrong grainline the board will flex more but break easier if u want more flex u can leave the midle like this and I recomend glueing with a roller it makes it more even and removes excess glue but ohervise it's great a few smaller mistakes but not that bad.

    I would love a little clarification on a couple of things, please. The "long skinny strips of wood" 1:05 and "kicktail scraps". Do you remember how thick those are? "Scraps" look 3/4". Maybe the "strips" are 1/2 inch? I have built a board before and because I thought, after unclamping there would be more, spring back, than there was, my board ended up more like a bowl. lol. I don't need to do that again. :) Also, Where do you buy your 1/8" Baltic birch plywood? I am having trouble finding a supplier. Thanks in advance! Great video...Straight to the point tutorial. :)

    • @cash_reviews
      @cash_reviews  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Monsieur Loyal Hmm i'm not sure exactly how think the strips were, you can cut some and then try pressing it without glue to see the shape. I got my baltic birch at a wood supply shop. Try searching online for wood supply or wood crafting shops in your area and see what comes up. Good luck!

    • @cash_reviews
      @cash_reviews  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Zach Ramsey It all depends on how much concave you're looking for, these were probably around 3/8 of an inch but test press it first to make sure it's what you're looking for. And for me 4 layers of birch is fairly stiff but i'm light. 3 layers is more flexy but not as strong. Good luck!

      You definitely could do that, it might be hard to properly align the layers and it'll still needed to be sanded after. It should work though

    Hi there, is there any other good wood alternatives to baltic birch, could I use normal plywood? Thanks for the great tutorials.

      I've used higher end "normal plywood" from home improvement stores with SOME success. They'll work but won't be as strong, or will likely need to be thicker and thus heavier. It's worth the experiment if you cant get birch!

    So with using Baltic birch, should cut the length of the board with the more rigid side of the wood? I apologize if this is kind of hard to understand lol, I don't know a better way to type it.

      +Rush_Recon yes cut it so it's more rigid, alternate grain pattern if you want it stiff in all directions

    How wide should the board be at its widest. I know my overall length is gonna be 40 inches I just don't want my board to be too skinny.

      +William Kostik I usually never go over 10" for my boards, but do what you feel is best! I usually like 8 to 10 inch widths for my boards. Good luck!

    Did you make it cross grain, or was all the grain going in the same direction? Will the wood snap if I do it cross grain?

    • @cash_reviews
      @cash_reviews  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Rishabh G cross grain, it helps for rigidity in all directions
