@@smileplz237 The only thing that didn’t make sense to me was the jig/clamping system he built. I’ve never seen somebody induce concave (Not to mention concave on both sides in conjunction with kick tails at the front and back!) into their glue-up using only a crude form that doesn’t actually have a *form* to it (LOL) simply relying on strips along the sides to press up while the press applies downward pressure radiating to the edges from the center during gluing seems like it would result in an incredibly poorly made skateboard but that does not appear to be the case???
Hey Cash, just wanted to express my gratitude for the video. I'm finishing college and in this semester I designed an electric longboard which I had to make a model of. For that, your video, especially the DIY clamps part, helped immensely, so BIG thanks man!
Following up on a five-year-old comment of yours regarding the gluing/clamping technique for producing a DIY longboard… How is the durability? I would really really really appreciate if if you would reply back because… Not to offend the content creator here but I’m honestly amazed that this type of clamping system works at all and if it does then I’m going to start doing it myself LOL
This is a really well put together build tutorial. I learned a lot and will be using the techniques you demonstrated. What an amazing finished product. Top job and thank you.
This video was PERFECT. I will definitely need it later! I have commented on your previous videos, saying good things but this takes it to a whole new level... Thank you so much! Keep up the good work!
Wow, nice vid man. Thanks for breaking down each step. I've made a few boards just as a hobby but haven't been able to get enough concave. I'm gonna try the press you showed on my next project. Thanks man, keep it up.
This was the most helpful video i could find for this. I made a longboard of my own earlier this year, it was the first one ive made so i had no clue what i was doing. In the end, my trucks werent straight, one sheet delaminated, and my griptape was frayed around the edges. I plan to make another this summer and im confident that this video will help me perfect my cruiser
:) Thanks a ton for noticing and replying my comment, I'll waiting for your new uploads, but let me watch all other your uploads which I didn't watch yet.. Peace..
Extra point for the clamping system. Ive done similar things and if the nose is just straight all u have to do is shape the tail and the concave. At the tail u can use clamps but for the concave I'm thinking about using heavy rocks. And it's mostly for people with no workshop. Also I'm thinking about strengthening the board lenghtwise with the help of metalthread. As a cheapversion of Carbon fiber cloth that has been used between the different layers of wood. oh well. there are so many ideas.
I would love a little clarification on a couple of things, please. The "long skinny strips of wood" 1:05 and "kicktail scraps". Do you remember how thick those are? "Scraps" look 3/4". Maybe the "strips" are 1/2 inch? I have built a board before and because I thought, after unclamping there would be more, spring back, than there was, my board ended up more like a bowl. lol. I don't need to do that again. :) Also, Where do you buy your 1/8" Baltic birch plywood? I am having trouble finding a supplier. Thanks in advance! Great video...Straight to the point tutorial. :)
+Monsieur Loyal Hmm i'm not sure exactly how think the strips were, you can cut some and then try pressing it without glue to see the shape. I got my baltic birch at a wood supply shop. Try searching online for wood supply or wood crafting shops in your area and see what comes up. Good luck!
I've used higher end "normal plywood" from home improvement stores with SOME success. They'll work but won't be as strong, or will likely need to be thicker and thus heavier. It's worth the experiment if you cant get birch!
Thus is awesome I love it..How much is that beautiful longboard? Did you having for sale? Hope you answer my questions I appreciate it. Thanks for your time and also sharing...
CashedOutBoards great projects but its hard to get it done,my biggest concetrn is that the edges wont meet up nicely at the glue-up and that i'll have to make my own centerline somehow
For the press- how tall were the concave stretchers in the middle of the board (it looks like 1/2" and how tall were the ends for the kick tails (that looks like 1-1/2")?
Hey bro please... Can you do detailed version for a normal skateboard.(about the press),can I use any wood, i don't have Birch...love your videos. Please do some more:)
+Supertramp K I might be able to make a normal skateboard eventually but i'm fairly busy at the moment. And you could use other wood, just make sure it is in thin enough sheets to bend into shape. Thanks for the feedback man! I'll make more videos as I make more boards!
Great video but would be nice to have a parts list, perhaps with costing and quantity? I’ve got very little of the basic things to make this and am going to have to go shopping but it’s hard to know exactly what to buy!
Thanks mate! Very good explained video! I'm not a skater but this looks like a very cool project :) Is 80 grit sandpaper an alternative for grit tape??
very good information, just one question. if you were to put the grain of each layer in the same direction would it have more flex? also, if you or anyone else knows, does using wood glue opposed to resin provide rigidity or flex?
If you run the grain all lengthwise it should have less flex and if you run it the other way it should have more flex with more torsional rigidity. And I'm not sure with glue vs resin, but I would assume resin is harder and would make the board more rigid.
Great video , I was wondering why are you glueing multiple layers of Baltic birch, isn't in better if you just get the one thick piece of wood instead of glueing several pieces together? I'm curious to know the reason why ?
Any chance of a vid on the poly coat and polish. What poly coat do you use and do you use a cutting paste and or polish to get that nice shine? Bit more info and what brands of stuff etc would be great! Cheers........
Great content, I have one question though: are the boards you used to support both ends of the deck of the same thickness as those used to create the concave?
My grandfather was a wood shop teacher so he likes to get me woodworking tools and equipment, my dad works out of there and has various tools and I myself but various tools, so all together we have a decent amount
+Rick Razor The graphic stencil was made with a vinyl cutter and the grip tape a laser engraver, but designs like this can be made with an exacto-knife, it just take a lot of time!

+João Quintanilha thanks bud! I think the wood to add concave was about 3/8 of an inch thick and the kick tail boards about 3/4. You could make yours however you want though!

200lb is about 100kg somethig close if i remember the conversion charts, you'll probably be fine with four layers of 1/16" baltic birch plywood.alternate layers so the first is flexing lenghtwise, second to the concave and so on.You'll be just fine like that and you would maybe like to tighten our trucks a bit than if somebody else used it
So with using Baltic birch, should cut the length of the board with the more rigid side of the wood? I apologize if this is kind of hard to understand lol, I don't know a better way to type it.
+rAstaByrd001 I can make a video on it soon! My biggest tip is draw an accurate small scale version first so you can just multiply all the dimensions when you draw the full sized template
Hey, I really liked your video. I want to make my own. I’m 50/60 kilo. How many layers of which thickness should I get? I want flex in my board, because I will use it to travel.
I weight about the same and used 4 layers of 1/8 birch for this board. My shorter boards are 3 layers of 1/8 birch and have a little bit of flex. Sorry for the late response, good luck on your board!
This is the best DIY longboard video I've ever watched.
Thanks man! It means a lot! It’s been a while since I’ve posted but there’ll be some really neat stuff coming up on the channel in 2020!
I have to say, this is one of the nicest long boards I have seen regarding the fit and finish of the product... Nicely done Sir....
+John Johnston thank you!
Hey look! Somebody who actually puts a concave into their board and knows what they're doing!
:) I'm sayin...
The only thing he didn't do that didn't make sense was that he built his own concave contraption when he could have used clamps
@@smileplz237 The only thing that didn’t make sense to me was the jig/clamping system he built. I love your videos. I have made a few boards using your technique and they turned out way better than expected! Thanks for sharing.
I can send you some pictures if you want to see- just shoot me your email.

Thanks my friend! I appreciate it :)
Incredible workmanship
Thank you!
I literally appreciate you sm for this video!! I’m making one as a present for my BF
How is it
Thanks, now I know how to make my very own longboard.
Best video I have seen yet bro thanks for making this.
Thanks man!
Props to dad for encouraging his kid to top level woodworking with something he likes. No college necessary for this kid. He will do just fine.
Just graduated with an Engineering degree, I like to do a bit of both! :)

+Adestrador Online thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Put the nuts on the rod prior to cutting, remove nut after to allow for easy threading:) Cool vid!
Excellent tutorial. Love the deck press idea.
Thanks!
Thanks man super helpful gonna need this for woodshop can’t wait to make this!
thanks for your videos very helpful keep doing your thang, keep the music flowin
You could be the Norm Abram (New Yankee Workshop) of the skateboard world! Great job with making a detailed and informative video. Thanks
Great detail in 10 minutes! The finished product looks awesome, thanks for sharing!
shut the hell up
You are AWESOME!! I'm new but a huge huge HUGE fan already.. I love you guys..

INCREDIBLE WORK.....GREAT JOB !!!!!!
Wow dude that was awesome! I love that shape and will probably add a handle on the kick tail.
Thanks man! Best of luck with your project!
Well done, great deck design and skills. Thanks for the video
Pretty awesome for a homemade board👍
You're very knowledgeable young man. I learned a lot from you in my older age
Nice to see that the plywood comes from my homeland
Awesome video, and checked out your band in Spotify because of the plug. Congrats on the new album!
You’re the man, thank you!
Sweet tutorial. Good luck with the band

this is a lot less cringey than the cruiser one lmao still great info in the vid also i like your clamping system ill have to try it out
An absolutely beautiful product

Great video. Will definitely give this method a try.
Excellent work
Awesome work!
what a lot of pro tools do you have mate. It is almost not an DIY. But very well done. Great

im thinking about doing this but what i would like to know is how durable the board is (like do the layers of wood come apart) GREAT VIDEO!!!
I've made many boards and only one snapped, and it was because I used low quality plywood. None of my boards have delaminated!
Great content, I have one question though: are the boards you used to support both ends of the deck of the same thickness as those used to create the concave?
Thanks! It depends on what size kick tails you want. Here I believe they were slightly larger than the concave shims
The wood i use it doesn't like to bend. My friend and I we screw our boards down to a piece of wood. Where do u get your wood? Love your videos!
+Action Films I got my wood from a local woodworking shop / lumbar yard
Im just so jealous. How come you have a lot of tools and machines?
You have shop?

I love ur video but I just have one question. Where did u get the Baltic birch plywood at
Hi, really cool video of making a longboard. What tool did u use to cut your BandPattern in the GRiptape?
+Rick Razor The graphic stencil was made with a vinyl cutter and the grip tape a laser engraver, but designs like this can be made with an exacto-knife, it just take a lot of time!
Very very excellent job and video bro, compliment and super like by Warmachine bodybuilding of garage Gym italy 🇮🇹
Great project, great video!
+Jemmy Sheng Thanks man!
Awesome build! Thanks for posting. With 4 ply of 1/8" BB and concave layout, how much flex did you get? I made a Pintail with 4 PLY BB concave and had no flex.
You're welcome! And this board is very stiff, almost no flex. I made another board using three plys of 1/8" Baltic birch which is much more flexy.

Do you want flex , or a certain amount of flex ? I could see where not enough layers would potentially break
amazing please tell me how much is the thickness? dimensions exactly please
Thank you for this tutorial #DIY longboard
How did you set up the blocks to not only get a rocker camber, but actual concave into it, know what I mean? Your nose and tail are shaped like an actual skateboard deck when it comes to the deck scooping down and then up into the nose, how did you achieve the down bend before the up into the nose itself??
Is it okay if i cut it out first and then glue it together? My board should not be with concave or so. Thank you for your answers!
You definitely could do that, it might be hard to properly align the layers and it'll still needed to be sanded after. It should work though
oke thank you
Where can i find a templete for a longboard like this cuz i love it
Does the board flex well? Great video btw, really informative.
Depending on what amount of layers you use it’ll be nice and flexy! It’s all in the design. Glad you enjoyed it!
Well done young man! I really liked the outcome after polishing the bottom!!! So just a buffing compound on polyurethane finish? To clarify please. Thanks! :-)
hey man.. 1st let me tell you, nice toturial! I will try making my own but I just have a question:
what's the height you used on the woods that after pressing, make the concavity? both lateral and on the sides ..
thanks
+João Quintanilha thanks bud! I think the wood to add concave was about 3/8 of an inch thick and the kick tail boards about 3/4. You could make yours however you want though!
Hi im currently making a board as a school project, was just wondering how thick your board was and why you choose to use 4 laminates, cheers, James.
Great video I was wondering how much you weigh and how much flex the board has under your weight. You have inspired me to make my own board. But i want to make a rigid board with out any flex. I am 200lbs. will 4 layers be suitable? Thanks again! The 40yr old man!
200lb is about 100kg somethig close if i remember the conversion charts, you'll probably be fine with four layers of 1/16" baltic birch plywood.alternate layers so the first is flexing lenghtwise, second to the concave and so on.You'll be just fine like that and you would maybe like to tighten our trucks a bit than if somebody else used it
+Samo Dimitrije You sure it is 1/16 x 4 = 1/4 inch. It sounds kind of thin, dont you mean 1/8 x 4?
Thije isThije yeah that's what I meant,I use metric so I tend to make those kind of mistakes
very good ... good project !
+Paulino Costa Thanks!
So with using Baltic birch, should cut the length of the board with the more rigid side of the wood? I apologize if this is kind of hard to understand lol, I don't know a better way to type it.
+Rush_Recon yes cut it so it's more rigid, alternate grain pattern if you want it stiff in all directions
hey, just wondering if u could tell me more a bout the flexible side of the plywood...
Since wood has directional grain it will bend easier in one direction than in the other
Any tips on making the full scale drawing of the board?
+rAstaByrd001 I can make a video on it soon! My biggest tip is draw an accurate small scale version first so you can just multiply all the dimensions when you draw the full sized template
Ok thx :)
Cashedoutboards, do you think i can use a wolmanized plywood other than baltic birch?
