    I started collecting orchids almost one year ago. Now I own 22 😅 my heart is with the minis especially ❤️ I love their small flowers and how dense they grow on the spike. So far only the first I ever had (gifted one year ago when moved into a new city). She got some water into the crown an rotted very fast. This never happened again. I'm very careful now when watering. I have learned so so much from you, thank you so so much ❤️🌺❤️

    Note to Dani ... your black top in this video is a VERY GOOD BACKDROP for displaying your blooms on camera!! Makes the blooms pop - stand out - even more than when you wear other coloured tops. I thought I just had to let you be aware of that. Replay the video, and you will see what I mean. I am a subscriber, and ardent fan of your videos, and also very jealous of your orchids!! I have a lot to be thankful to you for. (Wear black more often!)

    I bought my first two mini phals a year ago - I think the „repot ASAP“ advice is worth gold. Not just for the root expansion reason, but also for the reason that those phals often come in super compacted moss plugs at their core, which often is either choking out the roots from being too dry as it is too compact, or choking and rotting the roots from being kept too wet at the core even if bark is placed around that plug. My two tiny orchids are still recovering from the damage that was there when I bought them.

    Working on it....have definitely learned NOT to switch straight to bark from moss, but to instead repot with LOOSE moss and some bark to acclimate. I live in a VERY humid climate and the compressed moss rots, the complete switch causes transplant shock.

      I've been doing the same. I keep loose moss around the base of the plant but I do put loose bark everywhere else. Once I need to repot after 6ish months, I switch to full bark

    This is very helpful. I have a lot of phals, but one mini has never rebloomed. It kept throwing out roots. I recently repotted it in a full size pot and it seems a lot happier!

    I had houseplants forever. I've always avoided orchids because of their reputation for being difficult. I finally got some a couple years ago and don't regret it. They're some of my most reliable plants and the blooms last for months!

    Find your mini orchid lecture very useful and does address the problem of large leaves and rooting problem in my situation. I am growing my mini orchids in the bathroom to give the bathroom some color, so space is a issue but knowing what not to do is very helpful.
    I am very thankful for the information. “God blessed!”

    I've been gifted a couple of phalaenopsis, both regular and mini sized, and they are kind of getting along but I didn't know much about their care. Thank you so much for your many interesting and beautiful videos. I just ordered some new pots and potting mix and am eager to repot my own soon. Thanks Dany!

    Wow. This information is just what I needed. I have 5 minis and had questions about pot size, when to repot and most importantly, their growing habit. You have just answered all my questions. I will be repotting my phals into bigger pots this week. When I got them I repotted them into three inch pots but they seem to have too many roots. Glad to know the flowers will stay mini. I love all my orchids. I have 6 phals, 5 mini phals and two dendrobium phals. Your channel has been a life saver to my orchids Andy African violets (7). Thank you.

    It's funny how this video is so up to date for my. I have a mini Phal tiny Melissa reblooming at the moment and showedy boyfriend impressed how many roots she have, how large her leaf has grow. Comparing to my latest two mini Phal purchases 😂❤️ which are tiny in comparison. I actually never thought about the fact that roots are the same size as large ones, but it makes so much sense 😅 especially whenever I realize how thirsty my tiny Melissa is.

    My mini’s leaves are a bit soft, made sure to wait till it was dry then soaked the pot and used the feed me from repotme but still it’s not as stiff and they are shiny. I also got another normal size and did everything the same and it’s leaves are stiff and glossier.

    I have 1 mini that is the oldest of my 5 phals.. It's about 5 or 6 years old and my show piece. Shes just beautiful. Shes got to be repotted this year and Im not looking forward to it.. but it must be done. Shes been growing in a moss base this entire time. I repotted a sister mini when i got it & it died.. i hate to do that to this glorious girl.

    Excellent video! Im a new collectors of orchids so I enjoy your videos. A question: you mention small leaves are a sign of problems but don’t the new leaves start as small? I’m confused as to what to look for? Another question: do you have a video on the growing/flowering cycle of the mini? If I buy one in bloom in March and then another one in bloom in October, do they ever catch all together or do the plants rebloom at various times in the year
    Thank you !

    • @lilymohsye
      @lilymohsye 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the new leaves, the very first leaves of an orchid plant can be smaller, might take a few leaves until the leaves grow to its larger potential size. Also, bumps along the road can cause new leaves to grow smaller such as repot shock, the orchid being unhappy with its new environment, drastic temperature change, etc. You can find orchids in bloom at any time of year because the greenhouses they come from have great control of the temperature and can induce the orchids into bloom by artificially manipulating the environment. If you buy a typical hybridized mini phal in bloom mid summer, this is not typically when it would bloom naturally. Phalaenopsis orchids are triggered to bloom naturally by a drop in temperature at night over a period of time. This mini phal that you purchased that was forced into bloom might not bloom again next winter because it needs to catch up on some vegetative growth to create energy for more spectacular blooms, but you never know, orchids can surprise you. Maybe it will bloom again anyways because right now is winter time, so it’s the time your orchid would be in bloom naturally anyways. Eventually, all your mini phals once acclimated and once past their initial bloom triggered from the green house and after some vegetative growth from your care and regular watering will bloom around the same time each year. They’ll spike in winter, bloom in spring. Happy planting!

    Great info Danny. Unfortunately I bought a whole bunch of minis and their corresponding/very expensive Repotme ceramic pots (they're all so beautiful) for them to live our their lives, assuming they will not get any bigger, sigh. Ooops. Well, I still have a few months to save up my dough to buy their future pots. Thanks Danny. Oh btw, love the music you choose for your videos.

    I have around 50 orchids in Florida.
    Now I need to move much to the north , to Chicago.
    I am afraid, my orchids can die in this climate.
    Any recommendations how to move them and how to care, please!

    Hi Danni - thanks for all your educational videos…they help so much! I was wondering if you have had experience where a Phal with an injured new leaf from being shipped loses that leaf due to the injury. Is the Phal done for? Or might it still grow new leaves ? I recently received a very smallStuartiana, in spike, and the newest leaf was so damaged it fell off. The flower spike has continued to mature but I’m wondering if the crown will grow new leaves eventually despite losing the newest one. Thanks for any opinion or shared experience in advance.

    Made a mistake of repotting an Orchid in 100% bark when it was originally in 100% moss. All of its roots rotted as a result. Thankfully, it had an arial root that saved it. It's now recovering and growing new roots! I will NEVER do that again

    Can I remove the soda in the plastic pot
    The leaves are soft

    • @lba2746
      @lba2746 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Remove it. Soda is alkaline, Na2CO3(regular soda) =pH10.2 @1% in Water, NaHCO3(baking soda) = 8-9. Orchids thrive the best at Water pH 5.5-6.5.
      The argument can be if your water is pH 4.5 or lower which block nutrient uptake. Some use dolomite lime, oyster shells etc. which release calcium and magnesium slowly to terrestial orchids and in principle gives the same pH values as soda, though at a lower rate. I guess MissOG has a couple of videos on water quality and potting media.
      The water conductivity, salt content,is as important. Try 300 -400 mikro Siemens for Phalaenopsis when growing. The orchid can die from over fertilizing, say at a condutivity above 1000 mikroS, for multiple waterings. I recall the YT'er Eds Orchids has a bit on watering too.

    🌴Aloha from Hawaii 🌴
    I have a question, I have a couple of Pleurothallis mounted on a Fern Tree (Hapu’u) bark block or a rectangular block.
    The block itself is about 4”H x 2”W and the Orchid’s are mounted on it and they cover about half of the block.
    I noticed that you call your Mini Phil’s Mini and to me they look way larger than mines.
    So if your mini’s are that size… my Pleurothallis is Considered ??
