I did it! I followed your instructions to a tee. From sugery of dead roots to a spritzing of hydrogen peroxide. I talked to it every day and I switched it to a brighter window. I live in PA so the heat has been on so I make sure I hydrate it with a narrow mist. There were zero roots on this baby but I just saw a new leaf. I have a new hobby. I think you channel is the best. Great information beautifully presented. Thank you.

I just re-potted an orchid that had no roots left except for a couple trying to grow out of the stem. So your report is encouraging to me that my orchid will recover over time. I also tried to followed MissOrchidGirl instructions as close as I could. When I saw no roots I thought the orchid was done, except for the little sprouts that I guess are new roots trying to grow dis spite the root system being entirely gone. I have hope now.

I often purchase the marked down orchids at my local big box store. The issue with them tends to be extreme wet broken down medium and therefore root loss. I have had pretty good success repotting and getting new growth. Great video- encouraging to see “rescue” can be successful.

I'm afraid this video was released about a month too late for my Blue Mystique Phalaenopsis. After almost 2 years of successful blooming and leaf growth, the poor thing became dehydrated, lost all of its roots, had the weakest leaves, and on top of all that stress, it suffered from a gnat investation. I focused my attention on new soil, a new pot, and ridding the gnat problem. After viewing this video, I know where I went wrong and what I should have done. I love orchids and can't wait to dive back into my hobby. I have renewed excitement and determination for when I receive my next orchid. Thank you for the much needed direction and inspiration, MissOrchidGirl! 😄😊

    This video was super helpful.
Our office was gifted one of these just before we relocated. My boss had filled it with water and put it in her car for at least an hour when I rescued it. It is Summer in the South! So, it was basically boiled. She was burned quite badly. We lost some leaves and flowering .. sticks. There is still a leaf but it’s withered and sad. I took it apart and did as you did in the video, removing old roots and brown skin around the stem/base. It has a nursery pot like the one you showed and new bark. I’m hoping you helped me save it! Fingers crossed! Thank you for posting this!!!!

I am an avid orchid lover. I have managed to regrow an orchid that was given to my mom before she passed. This orchid managed to rebloom four times but now seems to be stressed. I have cut off the old dried roots and there are an abundance of new roots coming. I have repotted the orchid and placing under indirect sunlight. I have also fed the orchid some orchid food. I will wait for a few more months. Hopefully, the orchid will be saved.

Hi Danny thank you for this piece. I once bought a pair of mini phals sold as one package. They were essentially treated the same but one was set back because of direct sunlight and a burnt leaf though both was in the sun. As they both progressed one was popping roots and the burnt one was losing all its roots. Well after two and half year, the phal with the burnt leaf is finally pushing out its third leaf, had never spiked for and finally developed a root system. The one doing well, had grown thirteen leaves and dropped four, spike five or six times since, and now is growing a Basel keiki which makes me nervous. But there remains thirteen leaves and a whole bunch of air roots poking every which way. Also both has been in leca since discovery of MOG 😬. Amen and this is the story of the twin mini orchids from Costco.

I dug an orchid out of the garbage. I don't know how long it was out there and the weather was cold for an orchid, probably 40-50 degrees Fahrenheit. I took apart the root system and there was a lot of rot of the roots and the medium, which was also densely packed. It has one lovely little leaf coming out following the unfortunate die off of the one large leaf it still had on it when I rescued it. I'm hopeful! And so grateful for the wonderful instructions - thank you!

Nice Video: I bought the supplies from rePotme after receiving a beautiful orchid as a gift. I've had grocery store orchids for over a year, and they seem to be doing well. But it's time to repot them all. I thought orchid roots were not supposed to be disturbed - years ago, I had many orchids and when transplanting to bigger pots, did just what you showed with the roots - they didn't have root rot, but I thought spreading them a bit and rinsing was good. When they all died a few weeks later, I was told their root systems are not to be disturbed. Maybe I did something else wrong - it was a long time ago - so I will follow your lead here.

You have helped me so much. All my orchids (5😬) have ALL the good signs, one in bloom, all getting new roots, even one with tiny leaves and almost no roots, I wouldn’t give up on it! Lol It is forming new roots. Thank you, Dear One. ❤️💚❤️

I've been binge-watching for the past two weeks on how to save an orchid, and this is my favorite video thus far. Great job at going through all the steps in repotting because I was feeling extra clueles. Mine looks a lot better an any of these examples. However, I'm noticing that the original aereal roots have dead tips and I'm getting ready to repot my phal (just waiting on my tools to arrive) but I was wondering, should I just cut the tip of those aerial roots? Should I get rid of it completely? The roots are very green is just those tips. Also, I'm seeing there's some yellow underground roots but I haven't really touched anything I've been watering only. I spray her and clean her leaves through the day so there's soo many new roots blooming I'm excited!
I also started seeing a new stem coming through (a very tiny tip) and I'm seeing a new leaf coming out... why is my phal growing both at the same time? If this is bad... what should I do?

I finally took all the medium off my orchid after watching you videos several times. What I discovered was there were no thriving lower roots. There are roots above. Now to learn how to help my plant.

It does have new leafs and also it’s blooming. Love how you explained it all thank you

I just recently inherited a sickly orchid. I had no idea whatsoever how to care for an orchid. I have many types of plants, including African violets, which I propagate from leaves, and plumerias which I grow from cuttings. So I thought, how hard can it be? Wow! I have a lot to learn!! And I hope what I’ve done so far hasn’t made it even worse!! I’m going to have to watch your whole series so I don’t go ahead and kill my poor sick baby! It was given to my sister-in-law at my mother-in-law Cathy’s funeral. I named it after Cathy, so it’s very important to me that I save it and see it bloom again someday.

I think I made the mistake of cutting my perfectly healthy spikes after the flowers fell off. The next season only one flower spike grew! I’ve had the orchid one whole year and I soon will be re-potting my orchid baby. Thank you for your guidance! I love your videos ❤️ happy orchid growing

I'm in the process of saving an orchid I've had for 6 years but have previously neglected. For the second time in a month I've had to remove rotten roots but this time I have the hydrogen peroxide to spray it with. Really hoping I can save this lil plant 🤞🏻🤞🏻

New to orchids …Will have try to save 13 pots which developed the same problem - yellow/ black spot s on dehydrated looking leaves ……In regard to watering… there are some suggestions for using 3 ice cubes for watering orchids . What are your thoughts on it?

Hi Danni and thank you again for such helpful/useful orchid growing info. I feel like always learn something new from your series. I do hope you can find time to give us a tutorial on winter orchid care. I have a few new genus this year other than phals and would like to know if they have special care needs for winter. (Den Phals, Oncidum, Miltonia & Cattleya) Thanks again.

Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge of orchids. I have rescued a few from my mother who is not the best at keeping house plants and I have lost a couple over the years because I know very little about them.
After watching this particular video, I can breathe a sigh of relief as I followed everything you covered when I rescued a couple of orchids recently from other people, I just followed my instincts and I'm so glad I got it right.
I have also cleaned the tops of the leaves with water and a lint free cloth to get back the shine as the orchid misting solutions I have been using leave an unsightly residue. I tried to find a product called leaf shine but could only find in aerosol form so decided on the water and cloth instead. I also use a fine artists paint brush to remove any dust or debris to keep them looking good.
Now that I have found your channel I am more confident in going ahead with purchasing or rescuing more orchid plants. Thank you again, I wish you a very happy 2022 year 😁😁🌱☀️

Great video, so helpful. My question is about ongoing care. Do I have this right? Keep medium moist but not soggy and soak periodically for routine watering? But how about fertilization, when tonstar, et?
