A ❤️ of a Homesteader....living in urban territory! 😭Gurl u just 💯described me to a “T” love seeing someone w/the same goals! Just started this year also with gardening, canning, raising chickens 🐔 lol and now dehydrating. So glad I found ur channel. New Subscriber! Much love ❤️
Yes! We are kindred spirits indeed! As Jess from Roots and Refuge says, “turn your waiting room into your classroom” and I’m doing just that. I’m sooo excited about my farm dream but I’m also not naive that there are tons of skills, habits, experiences I need and can start right now. I don’t mind the journey towards the dream because canning, small space gardening and projects I have coming up this year are making my everyday so rewarding as I balance a job and city life with my urban homestead! Thank you for subscribing and introducing yourself! I’m very happy to connect with you!!!
Yes! Let’s keep dreaming together! But until then, I’m going through to create the wildest, very densely packed deck garden-lol (and I’m happy to hear im not alone in this pursuit)! Thanks for stopping by and saying hello!
So true I live on a suburban block. Many years ago I lived on acres and had a small farm. When I moved to our small block I asked myself what made me feel like I was a farmer and the answer was Me. It was my mindset that made me feel like a farmer So now I do everything I can in my back yard to farm. My yard isn’t filled with grass it’s a small farm. We have incubators and hatch out chickens and ducks and quails and sell them. I grow food for ourselves. There is so much you can do on a small place. Just see yourself as an urban farmer.
Hello new friend, Patricia! Your words mean so much to me, and thank you for sharing them to encourage others as well. It sounds like you have maximized your property to its full and still value your smaller homestead as much as your former property. I truly believe this lifestyle is largely about the values that drive your life, consumption, etc and from there out factors such as land come in. Are you also into canning/food preservation? Thanks for stopping by and saying hello!
@@BecomingaFarmGirl I have not canned food I do freeze and make saukraut. I live with my daughter and 4 children the older two are autistic and the younger two are babies so find I don’t have a lot of time. But love my life.
Hello new friend! I’ve been so touched by the kindness of other homestead dreamers I’ve met. There are so many of us captivated by this lifestyle and optimizing our small spaces, Im happy to share what I’ve learned and continue to learn from others! Thank you for saying hello and for the encouragement!
I love your phrase "homesteading mentality". We are such kindred spirits! So impressed with your homemade fabric pots! I added it to my list of winter projects. I have plenty but the ones that are a couple seasons old are now starting to deteriorate a bit so being able to replace my homemade ones with a cheaper alternative and in the process I'm sure I can reuse pieces of the old ones.
I am a suburban city dweller practicing All of the homesteading practices I can manage. I have gardened my property corner to corner with both warm weather and cool weather crops in my 7B zone. And I have raised and bred rabbits primarily indoors. I have also used only leaf compost as input other than seed. And all of my methods are hand tools.
Hi Saran! Yes, the mindset component is the biggest obstacle when you have a farm dream but your immediate surroundings are far from it. When I started a taking small steps I realized just how much you can do in a space space, with little time and in between working. After all, I’m not in a race, and when the move comes I want it to be right. Are you also on a townhome? Apartment? Have you tried canning?
I can relate! I live on a 1/5 of an acre & we have three kids, gardens, chickens, ducks, & quail. My heart longs to have my own piece of land but for now I make do with what I got. I just found your channel, love it so far!!!
Hello friend! Yes! Contentment along the journey is so important, because it’s still a blessing to have what we’ve got even as we hope for more. A journey accompanies all dreams and where we’re at now is not the final destination! Thanks for saying hello!
I make use of as much of my back yard as possible for growing food. lavender infused in honey??? wow, that's a must try!! thanks for sharing, I love doing homestead things too, I live in a small town. Maybe someday I can afford to live on small farm. 👩🏽🌾🙏🏽🧡💖
You will LOVE lavender infused honey in your coffee, hot tea, spread on biscuits, toast and more! There is so much you can still do in a small space and in your spare time! Praying that the Lord will bring it to pass for both of us!
Oh, I love this new fall series! My lavender and basil did very well this year. Thanks for teaching me something new to do with them. Lavender and honey...basil salt... here I come. Love your channel.
What an inspiration. Thank u so much for having the love and courage to share your journey with us all. To become self sufficient and sustain my family has been an ever growing dream of mine. God bless you.
Just a general comment to say I enjoy watching your programs and topic.I feel you are very wise and clever person and I always learn a lot from you .God 's blessing to you.
Why thank you! That’s truly the feeling I get when I’m harvesting from my garden or making an easy preservation recipe. There’s something about working with your hands and caring for a garden that is therapeutic for sure! Lovely to “meet” you and thanks for saying hello!
I’ve got a covered balcony and two south facing windows. I can’t be self sufficient here, but I can be self sufficient in a few things. I can grow my own herbs and lettuce. I can also grow radishes, leeks, carrots, spinach, microgreens and green onions. It may not be all my food or produce, but it still puts a dent in the grocery bill and keeps me in fresh vegetables when we might not be able to afford them otherwise. That’s motivation enough for me to grow as much as I can in the space available. If I play my cards right with my current space I might be able to get some lemongrass out there too. When we move, hopefully I will have more outdoor space and can expand. One day I’ll have my dream of an outdoor staircase with potted herbs lining one side that leads to my own personal food forest complete with an orchard. Until then, I’ll just have to learn what I can with the space I have, so I can keep that good forest alive once I have it.
I live about ten minutes from the city in a very small condo that gets no sun on either the front or the back. I've planted seeds with grow lights, but nothing yet. Love your channel! Thank you for sharing.

Like I have long espoused...you can eat an elephant as long as you eat him one bite at a time. My "project time" seems to be in the fall. I have lots of projects lined up...fruit in the freezer to preserve into jams and jellies, meat to pressure can in assorted ways...but I have other projects in front of those to tackle first!
I do have a dehydrator and have used it, I live in a Apartment and we have very Sensitive Smoke detector., Cooking bacon in the Oven or AirFryer it goes off, so I use 2 Fans, One Pointing directly at the smoke detector and one by the oven door to keep it from going off crazy right 4-13-2023❤

I really enjoy your videos, and at the age of 61, my husband and I are beginner homesteaders. I have a small somewhat garden and herb garden going, my problem is horn worms and big fat brown worms eating everything. But I'm doing my best to keep my little garden growing. I'm very interested in learning to use herbs and to less rely on medicines I can use herbs for. So thank you for your videos on herbs. :)
Wow, your voice is so soothing! Honestly watching this video was so calming and inspiring. I am a fellow backyard/city homesteader. Cheers to your journey! I look forward to binge watching all your videos

Your channel reminds me of when I was in themilitary. I finally got perfect tomatoes to grow in Omaha and got orders. I had to leave them but moved with my containers of eggplant and mint! Very lovely and helpful video! We're just beginning our homesteading project here in a suburb in Western NY State. We're building a 6 month - 1 year pantry. I'm beginning to can again. And we're learning new skills and trying to become more self sufficient. Our garden didn't do too well, but we learned a lot for next season. We're going to make some shelves into a grow station to grow our seedlings and to try to grow some sprouts over the winter. Thank you for sharing your journey! 😊
@@BecomingaFarmGirl I plan to check out that video, and many others. I love learning from each other. We've talked about worm farming with compost, and we may do that too!

I just found you on TH-cam this AM and so excited to find your canning and homestead videos. I have just started canning again to build my pantry and growing my own veggies, herbs and flowers. When I retire next year I hope to work on this full time to provide great recipes and gifts for my home and family. I look forward to watching more of your videos and reading your blog. Keep up the good work!!
Thank you for sharing. I am going to go back and watch all your videos. I have started doing the same thing at my house. I have been gardening since I had my own place 36 years ago. I am always learning a growing. I just redid my entire yard to start more of a farm style garden. Love the worm farm and will be doing that also at my house.
Hi Julie! Thanks for saying hello! It’s so nice to meet a fellow small space homesteader. Isn’t there so much joy in using/turning what you do have to create a more sustainable life? Two years ago if you don’t be I’d be a worm farmer k would’ve looked at you crazy, now I don’t know where I (or my garden) would be without them! Worm farming is so discreet, the product you get is the best kind of fertilizer and you don’t have to pay the incredibly high prices for castings. You’ll love it! Thanks for saying hello! Are you also into food preservation, like canning?!
@@BecomingaFarmGirl Thank you for answering. I have not done canning. I am afraid of doing it wrong and killing my husband and I. I do dry and freeze everything. Last year was my first year with herbs. I normally only grow enough for me, but with the cost of living i want to take it to the next level. My husband loves to share my fruit harvest with his co-workers. Julie
That’s so exciting Julie! I’m so excited to hear you’ll be growing even more herbs this year. Remember to harvest frequently to encourage more growth. I love using excess to make herb butters to freeze and use throughout the year (sage and garlic butter is amazing but you can blend a number of herbs together). I totally get your initial reservations around canning, it took me a few years and lots of reading and a few classes to get totally comfortable. Best of luck with your garden this year😀🌱
Thank you very much. I have been gardening for years and have been educated in horticulture. However in my heart all I want to be is a farmer/gardener. @@BecomingaFarmGirlOhhhhh got it thanks. And I’m just starting out still living in the city. But I figure I should start trying my hand with skills I’ll need in the future. I’m nowhere near my forever home.
Don’t dispose, friend! I’d I were in your shoes I would definitely be an indoor Aero gardener. They have indoor grow pods that allow you to grow full size plants and veggies without relying on natural window light. You can often find them at thrift sales or Facebook market place. The joy and what your learn even growing a little is better than not having anything at all. You could also join a community garden if that makes sense for you. Thank you for stopping by!
how so you keep the upper part of the tower from getting too much water and the lower half from not getting enough water? Is this a big problem or not?

Oh my! Ginger Lemon Balm syrup 😍 Just found your channel and as an urban gardener this video is super helpful. Thank you!
Hi Samantha! I’m so glad you found this helpful! Thanks for saying hi! It’s so nice to meet other urban growers!!!
I'm in the planning stages of my urban homestead and then i stumble across your video. Its like looking in the mirror and hearing myself talk. Thanks
Oh wow! Organic Gardener, you have warmed my spirit! As someone also in the planning stages please be encouraged that, while we’re taking an alternate route, we’ll get there! I’m here to share what I’ve learned/ing and learn from others. Thanks you for saying hello!
Cassandra, just found you today! I too want to live the dream as well so your story is inspiring to me. Blessings friend! 💗
Editing, sound and content: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐!

I'm just loving your homesteading content and so happy I came across your channel 🎉😊🌱❤
Great video - fantastic info !!!
I really like your content. It fits for what I am trying to achieve. Thank you very much.
Us country communities aren’t as bad as the city rumours make us out to be, the city is like the teens and the country is the adult. lol
That pizza!!!🩷 Great video. Thanks.
I just stopped by your channel and looooooooooved it. I'm subscribing, I absolutely love your vibe. I'm a new gardener, a city girl but a country girl at heart. I just purchased an apothecary book and I'm starting to grow herbs of all sorts. I look forward to your videos. Peace and Love.
Hey Auntie’s Garden! I’m just seeing your comment because it went straight to my spam inbox for some reason! Your kind words mean a lot to me! Yes, us city girls can have our feet “on both sides of the grass” for sure. Yes to all things apothecary! I learned a lot last year with herbs and can’t wait for this year’s garden. Are you into canning and food preservation too? Watch out that’s another slippery slope! Thanks for saying hello! I hope I catch your comments sooner before they go to spam!
@@BecomingaFarmGirl so good to hear from you. I keep looking at the canning videos and I'm feeling kinda froggy (lol). I want to make homemade jellies so we will see.
Initially, I was the same. Definitely make the move when you’re ready and keep watching lots of canning videos to build your confidence! Ah yes, with spring here and summer sound the corner there will be lots of delicious jelly recipes! 😀😀
@@BecomingaFarmGirl thank you and have an awesome day
New to your Channel and I love your video!! Your voice is very gentle and calming very edifying thank you!
Hello new friend! Thanks for saying hello!
You have some interesting ideas on how to use your produce!! I'm intrigued!! :-)!!
Thank you! Learning to preserve meats and produce has been a very rewarding skill to learn that’s practical, helps me stock my pantry when prices are at the lowest and the tastes can’t be beat! I appreciate you stopping by and saying hello!

Your channel was recommended this morning while watching a gardening channel. I love your personality and content! New Subscriber!
Hello new friend! Oh, I'm so happy you enjoy this video! It's part of a series I like to host. Are you also a small space gardener?
@@BecomingaFarmGirl hi, my home here in Northern California has a front yard with a nectarine tree, tomatoes, Swiss chard, egg plant, cilantro, peppers, onions, garlic, and potatoes. Our back yard has a wild grape vine that produces hundreds if not thousands of green grapes !
Our yard is not big but we sure utilize every space we can between all our flowers!
We hope to buy property just like you in the next 2 years!
Keep inspiring us we need the hope and encouragement! May God richly bless all you put your hands to do🙏

Hi, I just found your channel and now a new subbie. I live in a town house in the middle of the city and having a small urban garden. Doing a switch from luxury shopping and spending lifestyle to a more minimal and sustainable lifestyle. Thank you so much for sharing. xx Linda
Hi Linda! Thanks for saying hello! I had a busy work week so apologies for the delay. I’m right there with you on pivoting towards meaningful, more intentional living. I appreciate you saying hello! Have you fallen down the canning vortex yet?!
@@BecomingaFarmGirl I have done some canning but I'm not hard core canning lady yet ;) . xx Linda
Very inspiring and smart!
Hi Syrene! Thank you so much! It’s a humble beginning but there’s a lot you can learn and do in a small space. Are you a homestead dreamer too?!
I just found you and I love your channel !
Omg I love this
Just found your channel and would like to say i love it!!! Its my favourite so far. Your so funny and smart! I do have couple questions. What do you use and how do you remove air from your dehydrator foods please and thank you!
Love this video & now I want to see them all.
Haha! Thanks Jenna! I really appreciate that. I’m happy to share my humble homestead and farm dream journey. Are you becoming a farm girl too?!
@@BecomingaFarmGirl yes I am just starting this year. I started off with seeds but that did not work well for me. I ended up buying some planet but will keep trying the seeds.
What a lovely video!
Hello Tawney! Thank you! It’s part of a series here on my channel. I’m starting small but there are lots of homestead skills to learn no matter where you live! Holy to hear you enjoyed!
Another great video!
Lovely video. Thank you. Love the recipe ideas too.
Thank you very much! I certainly have a “humble homestead” but there are still many things you can make and grow. All of them are truly delicious.😀😀
Nothing like home made! 🌸
Once you realize off-the-shelf is garbage, this becomes a necessity of life.
So, so, true!
My heart too ❤️ subscribed
@@BecomingaFarmGirl yes me too! We don’t need perfection lol I’m learning to use my waiting room for Learning and patience also lol.
Excellent
Thank you so much!!!
Greetings, I'm a new viewer and truly appreciate the ideas you are sharing. Have you videos on how to grow these items in containers?
This past summer I've moved primarily into vertical gardening with GreenStalks. I have a number of videos on the channel about them and more to come!
Really, lovely video, thanks
I very much appreciate your kind words! I’m turning my waiting room into a classroom and am learning a lot even in a small space and in my spare time. This lifestyle feeds every part of mind-mind, body, spirit! Thanks for taking a look!

It's a lovely anti depressant
Just being in nature
Does wonders
Thank you for this video. I'm going to get started soon in my small concrete patio in grow bags but I need to keep mice/rats/cats out. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
BRAVO!!! Young Wisdom..Must be from The Lord. 😊
I have never used grow bags??! and I'm curious do you think you can use the "re-usable" grocery bags for this project, the recycled ones from freshco/nofrills for example?
What store did you find the Stanley pants & shirt?
How have the grow bags held up? I can’t believe I never thought to make my own (I just bought more!)
I love this video!! Super helpful. Was it water that you poured into the Fire Cider?? Also what was it you pushed onto the top before sealing?? 🤓✍🏾
Hey Taneesha! I poured apple cider vinegar on top and made sure to submerge the ingredients using a biodegradable bag filled with water. I now have 3 other videos as a part of this playlist you’ll likely enjoy if you found this helpful! Thanks for saying hello. Where are you in your homestead journey?
@@BecomingaFarmGirlOhhhhh got it thanks. And I’m just starting out still living in the city. But I figure I should start trying my hand with skills I’ll need in the future. I’m nowhere near my forever home.
You’ve got the right mindset about things! There are so many skills you can learn while you wait. It’s so awesome that you’re starting now. 😀😀🌱
do you have a recipe for the fire cider that you made?
I love these videos... do you mind if I ask what area you are in??? I am in the midwest and always looking for growing tips.
Hi 👋🏾 Christina! Thanks for saying hello! I’m in central Maryland, zone 7A/B.
@@BecomingaFarmGirl Absolutely amazing...
I can't seem to activate " more" to get links?
Dud you dehydrate it in the sun?
How did you learn what you know...?
Wow! Like the dirty hands qoute.
Do you have a book?
What if you don’t have a balcony 😓
Don’t dispose, friend! I’d I were in your shoes I would definitely be an indoor Aero gardener. They have indoor grow pods that allow you to grow full size plants and veggies without relying on natural window light. You can often find them at thrift sales or Facebook market place. The joy and what your learn even growing a little is better than not having anything at all. You could also join a community garden if that makes sense for you. Thank you for stopping by!
@@BecomingaFarmGirl oh wow I’ve never heard of that. Thank you for the tips!!
how so you keep the upper part of the tower from getting too much water and the lower half from not getting enough water? Is this a big problem or not?
