    I've been painting cars for just over 40 years. I think your video work is outstanding. I also served as a paint support technician for a few years in the VA Beach/Richmond VA markets. When you said what to me have been magic words for 20 or more of my years, " Slow is Fast", you had my attention. I'm happy to say I tought that principle for a long time, and lots of painters have become so much better at there trade by doing so. The one problem I had with this video, and trust me, I know lots of guys that do the same thing, all the personal protective equipment is great. But with the high ISO's in todays products, "FRESH AIR SUPPLY, and a pair of long pants will make your life much better and most importantly, LONGER. Thanks for letting me bend your ear.

      John. Thank you for your expertise in this industry for over 40 years. It’s the veterans like you that the young guys can really learn from. Whenever a vet comes to the shop, I love to soak up their knowledge. You are 100% about the mask, admittedly so I know I should be at least using the 3m full face for at least clearcoat. I’m working on getting that mask cleaned up and using it again. Thanks again for your support.

    I've been painting for years, and if I ever lose the desire to learn and improve, I'll hang up my guns. I soak up everything I can. I'm especially interested in the simple basics. Your videos have the good basic procedural instruction, from taping to gun setting, distance, timing, etc, love it! Keep up the good work. Details, details, details, never to advanced to learn.

    Thanks, dude. Doing paint in my garage with a crappy compressor and a £20 spray gun BUT watching your videos still help me get a better job. So much so that other people ask me to spray their stuff.

    I started working as a painter's helper in 1977 and moved to a commission painter in 1980 and painted for 40 years until a shoulder injury ended my career three years ago, and I must say I'm impressed with the quality of prep as well as your philosophy regarding the importance of doing a quality prep job. One thing you neglected to mention is that the vast majority of dirt in a paint job comes off the painter. I've seen so many painter's do a meticulous prep, a super tight mask job and then go in and spray wearing the same spray suit they've been prepping in all day or all week sometimes, often without a spray sock, and then wonder why they always get a bunch of crap in their paint. One last thing, I can't stress the importance of wearing proper PPE in this business enough. I didn't much of my career and I'm paying the price now. I can barely breath and also have all kinds of solvent related psychological issues. I would encourage anyone that works in this line of work to carefully read the MSD Sheets on every product you use because the shit will kill you if you don't take the necessary safety precautions. Again, good job on the video.

    • @PaintSociety
      @PaintSociety  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Jack thank you so much for your comment and I thank you for all of your years in this industry. You couldn’t be more correct about PPE and I hope all of the guys read the comments here. I love that you’re a part of my page.

      I too painted in the 70's and 80's. Fortunately, I did get a pump fed air mask when I got a fleet account of box vans that had to be two toned in Imron. But I sold the shop and partnered up with a car dealer buddy as I didn't want to be doing that past 40! I have done just enough to keep my hand in it as i love painting still. These videos of Brian's, Motivated Painters, and the Gunman really help with the handling of the constantly changing materials.
      As a teenager in the late 60's I interviewed painters in shops around town for tips( no uTube then!) and remember one old gent who, when asked about health, said to make sure you clean up and under the fingernails as well (also no gloves then). Lava soap was a bitch!! Thank you Brian and stay well!

    Oh boy! Do you know what? I just start painting as a spot repair on my old SAAB Aero from -03. I have NEVER ever hold a sray gun before in my life. I was scared. So I spend hours and more houers looking att paintjob videos and "how to". You see I´m Swedish and English Is not my first language. It was diffucult to understand other people. And at last...I found YOU! Oh man that was a jackpot! So instead of rust repair and spot repair - I started with a door. Thank´s to you I´m gonna paint the whole car. You´r explenations are so easy to understand and you also show you´r explenations in understandeble way. Thank you som much for getting me a new hobby at my age. I´m doing a satisfying paintjobs, and i Like It very much. Thank you and keep up the good education.

Anything can happened now a days and a real shop owner is only allowed to say those words until he has been through the good and the bad for at least 30 years. And or he has retired from the business, dont stop learning.

    My spraying apprenticeship was with an aircraft seat manufacturer which was up-close critical.
    On a guitar body, I do have to cut and buff but love it.
    As an old fella, I still get subtle stuff from your vids which help me, everyday.
    Cheers from Tube n Truss in England.

    Great Video ! The pocket mic works great, even when you put the mask on! I liked watching the paint flash, most vids skip that.
