Thanks Brian, you tell it like it is! I was in the business, for 40 years, and everything you said is true. You can’t get a rubbed look, without getting a little dirt in the spraying process. Face it, you are going to rub everything. That’s part of the game. Keep up the great work.

Great informative insight into painting a hood. One thing I do is give the air hose a wipe with the tack rag or a lint free cloth to get any dirt off, especially if you are leaning over to paint a roof or hood as shown.

Nice job. Here's a tip on tack rags. Let them hang totally unfolded while prepping the car, an hour or so. Never had an issue since doing this! Teach this to my high school auto body students learned it from an old timer in a shop I worked in a few summers. Picked up lots of tips from them plus your videos life is about trying and learning!

I'm a car painting student from Finland and I love watching your videos. I've been a subscriber just over a month now but I watched every video! Weird thing is I learn very well by mimicing others (sorry if this makes no sense) and these tehcniques I learn from you are great. In our school we don't have anything detailed educating, we just do a paint job (for a customer) that is assigned to us and we don't get a chance to try different things and techniques or even different paint guns. But I make sure to learn as much as I can from working and watching your videos. Lots of love!

I would say you are on the right track on your learning method. Seems like you have set an expectation for yourself and are pushing yourself to learn further. That will help you out in life for many things. As a high school instructor for auto collision, I try and motivate students as much as possible to teach themselves how to want to improve themselves on their own without anybody but themselves to push them.

My friend owns car painting company and what he have told me is that level surface is easiest to get mirror finish. Vertical surface like doors is much harder.
If i remember right he does 2 coat but first isn't full coat it's a bit dry ish and 2nd coat is much more wet and his clear is flawless maybe few speck of dust but nothing else and those dust he always buff off.
