  • Quick and easy sawbuck build that can handle just about any log for firewood. I built mine out of pressure treated wood but it really doesn't need to be. Some regular 2x4's are fine as long as you keep it stored out of the elements. I used 5/8" bolts, washers and nuts. You can adjust the tension as the need arises so don't feel the need to overtighten when you're building it. Many of these builds are on TH-cam so I hope you enjoy my version of one.

The whole concept behind a carriage bolt is the square shape underneath the domed head. That square shape is designed to bite into the wood, to keep the bolt from spinning. Carriage bolts are not meant to have a washer under the head! If you put a washer under the head, you disable the square biting element, so when you tighten the nut, the bolt spins, and it's awkward to get a wrench under the head to hold it. You're better off using a standard hex bolt in that case, so you could at least grab it with a wrench when tightening the bolt. Or, better still, use the carriage bolt with no washer under the head, and then when you tighten the nut the bolt won't spin.

Instead of using two nuts per bolt, just use a lock nut.

So the legs are 48 inches with 30 degree angle
What’s the total working length outside to outside? Love it!

I made mine 5 feet total width, from side to side and it seems to work well. Thanks for posting the video - a pretty nice sawbuck!
