This is why I always chuckle. Take for example the Cartier Small Juste un Clou Ring - plain. It is 3.3g of 18k gold. It sells for $1320. Today's price of 18k gold is about $49.40 per gram. So the cost of that ring that they are basically pouring in a mold? Is $163.02 - I could have a jeweler make me similar for $320.00 - Jewelry is something where I will no longer pay the luxury upcharges. I know too well the cost to manufacturer and cost of goods. The margin they are making on it is insane.
@@lvbadboyyou can literally design anything with a jeweller. You’re paying a premium for a box and a name, not worth it. As someone who wears lots of precious metals, sourcing materials is infinitely better

When you say 'no' the and the clerk rolls their eyes and starts treating you like nothing cuz they can't get any more out of you, it's disgraceful.
Absolutely right, I was in the retail trade for almost 50 years and it's all so shallow, and yes it's a complete money making brainwashing. I got angry with my Cartier Love bracelet and decided to sell it. I’d fallen out with the person who gave it to me. I know he paid over £3000 for it. We had to go to the Cartier shop to get measured because I have thick wrists. Well, guess how much the pawn broker offered me for it, £400. Scrap gold value.
Well Big Mistake Huge Mistake taking it to pawn shop their whole business model is to rip you off! You could have sent that to luxury resale sight and got 80 to 90% of retail on that Cartier.

Thank you Annie! 🙏🏻💖 I love these useless beautiful luxury objects. I enjoy them but I also know what games the companies play! We are no fools! We just choose to be foolish sometimes 😉💖💖💖
I bought a Cartier love ring, I wear it everyday but quite frankly, any jeweler could've made me that same ring for a small fraction of the price. This is also why I refuse to buy anymore designer bags. I'm fine buying cute bags clothing stores sell for 200-300 dollars
One thing I learned in life is that nothing is for free. One way or another we're paying for the added value! It's all about the experience while buying a product! The more personalized it is, the more we're gonna pay! (without complaints) Thanks for another lovely video, Dacob! 🥰 Have an amazing week ahead! 🌻 Cheers from Brazil, dear! 💐
Yes, you absolutely are paying for the name! Some people are so stuck on labels they do not realize they can get the same or much better elsewhere. This is the price you pay for labels. We are the ones that are stupid enough to pay for it. If we all stopped, the prices would be much lower guaranteed. It's a name not a product. I like high-quality products, but what I don't like is paying for a name and a crappy product, which seems to be going on with several of these luxury houses.
“YOU’RE NOT RIHANNA” 😂😂😂 Best line of the video lol. And you are right on the money about the “freebies” and the stupid little things ppl lose their minds over. A 2 inch leather pouch costs them about 20 cents.
Dacob, I am so glad that you are providing this level of education to your audience/consumers. The more people know about these sorts of things, the less the probability that they will get mislead and manipulated. PRICELESS! 😉
I agree 100% Dacob!! When I got married, my husband and I went to the jewlar that he bought my engagement ring from to purchase the wedding bands. My wedding band, a thin yellow gold ring with half of it covered with small diamonds was approximately 500$USD. We went to Tiffany&Co and looked at a wedding band that was with the same description (thin with half of it covered with small diamonds), and it was 2100$USD!!!! You are paying for the name, which, in my opinion, when it comes to jewelry, it's not worth the price. I have a VCA dupe bracelet, and NO ONE can tell the difference, they ask me if it's Van Cleef, it's the sane gold and mother of pearl, with the vca logo that cost me a 5th of the VCA price and I knew it's not automatic (they didn't try to make think it was so it's not a fake)
I always cringe when people buy costume jewelry from designer brands. My family and I only wear 22k & 24k gold jewelry and real diamonds. I bought a 28g, 22k gold bracelet 10 years ago for USD 750, and recently, I asked the fine jewelry store, how much does similar weight of my bracelet cost now and they said about USD 2500++ depending on designs. And the best part is, 22k and 24k gold can lose all the shine and luster, bent and broken apart into pieces, but it will forever go up in price and will always be accepted for trade-ins with fine jewellers regardless of the design and condition. Won't ever happen with costume jewelry of designer brands that are just "plated" instead of being a solid gold/silver despite their prestigious names stamped on it.
@Z369. I never owned anything less than 22k so I can't compare 18k jewelry. But I've not removed my 22k bracelet since the last 10 years aka the first day I got it so I've basically worn it through gardening, cooking, BBQ, doing dishes, swimming/showering, exercise, dance, dirty sports etc. Same with my earrings. 22k gold + diamonds. Worn every day for years now. And they still shine and look brand new ✨️ that's the best part of solid gold instead of plated/vermeil materials - tarnish resistant and great for everyday wear for people like me who can't bother changing/removing jewelleries every time they want to do something 😁
All jewelry is no the same just like all leather bags aren’t the same, I’m sure the Tiffany diamonds were better quality , cut, polishing people who know can instantly tell the quality of your jewelry
When I was a kid (1970s), gold-plated was considered the “cheap” version of gold jewelry. I could buy it with my own teenage money. Gold-filled was preferred, but even that was considered cheap because it would eventually wear down. And this was in my working-class circles. 14k gold jewelry was the type that I as a teen would save up for, or that families would give as gifts for birthdays, Mother’s Day, etc. Even so, it was still affordable. I can’t believe the prices for gold-plated jewelry these days. I still think of it as the “cheap” kind.
It's the same with the champagne in store..oh you got to this point. Part of their marketing costs which are offset by the massive retail prices. This is a no brainer. I can't understand why people get upset if they aren't offered champagne. Buy preloved and buy yourself some high end champagne and you'll be way in front. or don't buy anything and just get the champagne. That's really in front!
Designer vintage jewellery is 40% off retail price in reputable shops. And they still make a profit. If you sell a designer ring to this shop, they will pay you 25% of the retail price. At least in Paris.
It is not a scam, it is basics of any commercial activity, marketing and P&L, people just do not think about this. Companies pay a lot of money to i.e. cosmetic stores for any kind of promotion in store, even stickers on the shelf to attract your attention, location of products on better shelves etc, so you are paying for the product to be sold to you, promoted and distributed. And you would think that it is in the interest of the store to put bestsellers on better shelves, hell no, producers just pay for this. P&G pays grocery stores for visibility of Pampers on the shelves too. Of course, nothing is for free.
I know all this. This is not the point of the video. The point is calling something a freebie when it is not indeed for free. I think this conversation is important to have and maybe you are super aware and conscious of all the games being played in the industry but not everybody is aware. Raising awareness is in my opinion a good thing. Just because we know something, doesn’t mean we should not talk about it. Xoxo
One problem is that over the last few years, decades- the customer has changed from a more discerning client to people who perhaps are a little too desperate to buy an identity. You’re even paying for waiting in a line outside the store 😂
When you buy diamonds and sapphire jewelry you receive a card of authenticity. For some brands they are engraved plastic cards( like credit cards) with all the details of the jewelry.
It was a real pleasure watching this video. Even though I was aware of these trade “tricks” I ignored them. That was until you said it to my face! Hmmmm… THANK YOU! 🌷 and Happy new year!

I am a victim....I have fallen in love with Chanel makeup and perfumes. Your eye shadow is 🔥 today. I gave your video a thumbs up as always!
They are selling a fantasy. It's pretty much the trick to selling and buying and when people shop, and especially women, they are not shopping for practical reasons they are shopping for the fantasy that comes with that product. I have always loved the Cartier tri ring, but the price is beyond ridicules for what it really is. I could buy a fake, real gold though, cheaper version for far far less, same ring just not made by Cartier. What always got me was the price of costume Jewely that Chanel seems to sell very well. I actually was just checking out cuff bracelets, one was Chanel, and it was Barbie Ish style, it is made from unidentified metal and resin, resin! It is $1300. It's cute as hell but expensive as hell for something made of resin. You are correct, nothing is free, and everything is calculated into the price, the experience. If you have the money and want to spend it and keep the brand exclusive, that is fine. Not me. I will just go to some thrift store, buy a resin bracelet for a buck if even that and design it myself cute.
That’s why I never buy luxury on store, online is the best way to avoid rude SAs , who barely can afford what they are selling. Who cares about Hermes and Chanel ? There are plenty of other brands that offers higher quality and design. And to be honest I know some high caliber people with wealth who never wear this crap . Sorry but this has gone way too far
Exactly Dacob, nothing is free. I was chatting with a friend how we've dropped thousands of dollars and we are thankful for the little charms on packaging this year lol. I received a small leather good as a Christmas gift this year. I know a few friends who received the same star coin purse thingy as me. I've seen a diverse assortment of these small leather stars/coin purses given as gifts - basically resembling appendages of their 24C bags. I couldn't help but suspect they overshot production of these appendages for the number of bags they belonged to, hence they made them into gifts. lol.
i never realised that they got tax deductions for gifts. Next time im offered a gift ill decline it like a boss. "i dont need it thats okay..." hahahha
Well… you paid for it already… directly or indirectly… so turning it down would feel to me like as if I ordered and paid for a meal at a restaurant and just when the food arrives, I stand up and leave without eating it… even though I already paid for it… 😉💖
I liked this video and, generally, couldn’t agree more. However, this concept specifically was misleadingly explained (or just poorly understood). Any business on the planet deducts expenses - it is not a “loophole”, and I highly highly doubt dust bags are under advertising expenses. Moot point, because the cost of producing the bag, the cost of materials (cost of goods sold) is also an expense against their revenue, reducing profit, and thus tax burden inherently. ANY expense will decrease tax burden bc it’s decreasing profit. With that said, these companies have done the math to show that spending money to produce and distribute “freebies” actually makes them (the company) more profitable. Not at all bc of taxes, but because it contributes to the “luxury” allure that allows them to charge an obscene amount in the first place. So yea, take the freebies, but don’t go thinking that the dust bag is some crafty tax loophole. It is not.
It is not double standards. You genuinely like their perfumes, you know why you like them and you understand how they compare to the market's other offerings. It is an informed decision to buy them, you're not buying them for the snow globe or just brand soft power. That isn't being manipulated as a consumer. On the other hand, the person who buys say, the new Le Lion because it's new and because it's Chanel and expensive - that person is being manipulated even if it is a great perfume.
What I am saying is lets call a spade a spade. These are not gifts or freebies. We need to rename them in order to not ink they are for free in my opinion. So lets say something like: extended acquisition… or purchase add-on… or paid in part through the purchase of another product…
All jewelry has a huge mark up & designer brands are the worst. If you resold to a jeweler or pawn shop etc they would give you scrap price.Oh, & by the way most of them don’t give much for ri& stones. I don’t understand why people are still paying retail for this stuff.
I think in some cases the retail experience can be very beautiful and can remain as a special memory too. Like when you go on a dinner to a special fancy restaurant for example. The expensive over priced food will be digested in a few hours and expelled out of your body so why pay much more rather than cooking cheap at home? We pay for the memories that come with certain experiences… thats what luxury is mostly about… a perception and feeling… a memory…
@@SuperDacob this is so true. I went to YSL yesterday and purchased a bag and it was the loveliest experience with a sweet S.A. who made the experience extra special and followed up with me today. That’s not something I can do every day and at times I but preloved, but nothing beats that in store experience, esp if you have a wonderful S.A.
Everything in life is marked up that how capitalism and business work. Nothing you have purchased in life from a pack of gum to a car was ever near the price is cost the merchant so jewelry and designer clothing are no different. A pawn shop is not a good barometer for value because they want to buy everything cheap as possible from desperate people so they can mark it up. Highend jewelry has some of the lowest depreciation rates is basically parking money, you can 90% sometime make money depending on the piece and how long you keep it.
Oh yes, we will be hit by the price increases after all the theft has happened and factored and included in those price increases are also the sums lost due to theft. The consumer always pays in the end… unless the consumer stops consuming… but that is a very difficult task… 💖
Coco Chanel personally wasn't liked by many people. She only became sentimental and nostalgic decades after her death, because Karl lagerfield resurrected the house of Chanel ect. Now it's went full cycle and became unpopular. As she was know in the day as an awful person. Rude she was.

Indeed, opting for another cotton sweater that aligns with vegan values would prove advantageous. Of course, the satisfaction of not overspending would contribute to a greater sense of happiness.
Just because its obvious, doesn’t mean nobody should talk about it and keep raising awareness. If we forever stopped talking about what some deemed obvious then we would regress pretty fast… people tend to forget… you’d be surprised just how fast people forget! Maybe you forgot too…

It is not.
Well Dacob, as they say, "There's no such thing as a free lunch". 💁♀️
Yep
Highend jewelry has some of the lowest depreciation rates is basically parking money, you can 90% sometime make money depending on the piece and how long you keep it.
thank you so much for the Pharell comment......what a scan that is......
IYKYK 😉💖
Well, technically, even if they didn’t deduct it as advertising, they could deduct it under Cost of Goods Sold, if the included it with your purchase.
You have to pay to play. They treat you good cause you paid a good price for what you got. You even pay fot the ones that we're stolen.
Oh yes, we will be hit by the price increases after all the theft has happened and factored and included in those price increases are also the sums lost due to theft. The consumer always pays in the end… unless the consumer stops consuming… but that is a very difficult task… 💖
The Chanel Sheriff love it! is that from Dallas Chanel collection?
Thanks 😊 yes, it is.
You just tell it as it is, Dacob😆❤❤
Keepin’ it real 😉💖
Unfortunately, *nothing* is really free in life. Good topic.
Thank you 🙏🏻💖

I figured i would keep the metal water bottle they gave me at Chanel because price😂
A blind man on a galloping horse could see that nothing, nothing absolutely nothing is free😱😤😵😒👎
You would be surprised how many blind men on galloping horses are even more blind than you think…
Never realised you weren’t a fan of the new pharrell lv bag
Find it vulgar and gross
You are buying the package , but whatever everybody is free to splurge their money.
Of course. I am just starting a conversation. Would never tell you how to spend your own money.
it was always obvious ) that's why we go second hand )
100% right

But honestly each and every single piece of luxury brand name is overpriced and not worth.
But u bloody buy the brand.
Coco Chanel personally wasn't liked by many people. She only became sentimental and nostalgic decades after her death, because Karl lagerfield resurrected the house of Chanel ect. Now it's went full cycle and became unpopular. As she was know in the day as an awful person. Rude she was.
I agree the Pharell speedys are ugly 🙃. But I think I’m buying myself a speedy 20. I’m new to LV. And Channel I own nothing of lol maybe I can start with the beauty products
Enlightening video!

Just know you’re paying 😂
Indeed, opting for another cotton sweater that aligns with vegan values would prove advantageous. Of course, the satisfaction of not overspending would contribute to a greater sense of happiness.
I don’t care about your subject matter. I just want to hear your voice.
I love you!
👍👍
💖🎉
Thank you captain obvious)
Just because its obvious, doesn’t mean nobody should talk about it and keep raising awareness. If we forever stopped talking about what some deemed obvious then we would regress pretty fast… people tend to forget… you’d be surprised just how fast people forget! Maybe you forgot too…
So true I have spend so much at coach so " get free gift" at coach but love it
