    I agree with the "not my cup of tea" comments. I have a set of OEM Dayton wire wheels on my 86 XJ6 and they look AMAZING on it. I couldn't imagine another wheel on it including the pepper pots. My 97 XK8 has the revolver wheels and I can't imagine swapping them for another wheel unless it was the BBS Detroits. The XK is of course homaging the look of the classic but it's still a modern car and does not look right with wire wheels. It's best described as a modern touring car rather than a classic sports car like the E-Type. It's almost like putting wire wheels on a viper.

      Corey, completely agree about the wire wheel. I had some revolvers on my original XK8 absolutely loved them. I though they really suited the car. Thanks for the comment regards Damian

    I really like the way these look, the body style of our X-100, though modern, still compliments well with these classic style wheels. It further makes the connection to the old E-types the XK evolved from. Too bad I already bought wheels 2 years ago and still don't know wtf to do with my old Hydra's! Gotta say though, that one car with the 22's and the whitewalls looked absolutely ridiculous!!

      Andork, I get the same vibe from the look. Very retro and will age beautifully with the look and shape of the X100. Classic look with modern capabilities. Look even better in real life. Unfortunately at that price will be staying as what I have already too. Thanks for the comment regards Damian

      Andork, I like the bling of chrome rims. Unfortunately the hydra’s are least popular wheels for the XKR. Only useful if you are after the ‘sleeper’ look. Might have trouble shifting them. Regards Damian

      @@ODRModurol Totally agree, wheels are supposed to have a little "bling". The Hydra's can be painted (or powder coated) to look pretty nice but they just aren't that exciting anyway. To have them powdered would cost about as much as the new aftermarket ones I got, hence the reason they now sit and take up space. My least favorite are those Revolver wheels, do not like those in the least, barely look better than hubcaps.

      Andork, I had some revolver wheels on my first XK8. Didn’t mind them whilst I had the car. However, a bit bland and can’t see the brakes. Love 5 spoke wheels👍 Regards Damian

    Always looking at mods for these cars. Not convinced but some of the photos look good although the 20/22” not so much. Cost prohibitive for me anyway! Nice video, thanks.

      Gary, exactly my thoughts 20 inch wheels can look large on the car especially if it isn’t lower as well. That makes the ride a lot harder and the cost is, as you say, prohibitive. I am keeping to the smaller, subtle and less expensive mods. Thanks for the comment and support, regards Damian

    I had the same gold colored XK8 @11:38 and I always wanted to get spoked wheels on her but after seeing it, I’m not quite too sure about how it looks. The point you have to have it “grow on you” makes sense. I now have a dark grey/gun metal grey xkr and also thought I wanted spokes, but I don’t think I’ll be getting them. Thank you so much for posting what they look like!

      Mytube777, thanks for the comment. It’s good to see them on a car before you buy them as they don’t always look as you think. Glad to found the video useful. Much appreciated, regards Damian

    I think they look great. I could see them on my XKR. However, mine has 20 in wheels and I don't like the look of the 20 inchers shown here. I do love the traditional look.

      Libertarian45, I have to admit originally I didn’t really like the look on the XK8. However, having seen them first hand they are quality and the look does grow on you and the look of the car as it matures. Thanks for the comment regards Damian

    Just now discovering this post and staring at 11:50 for a while as this is "my" car. The wires really conjure the E-type's panache which inspired the X-100's existance. Yeah, $750/corner is definately worth it.

    Hi Damien for your info DCR auto parts in Scotland offer wire wheels for the XK8, found the subject great as I have been contemplating wires for my 1998 xk8 the rear rims are only 8: though and probably getting rims later this year so good to know of another source and the rear are 9" from mws saving on tyre costs. Tony..New Zealand

    • @ODRModurol
      @ODRModurol  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tony, I don’t think DCR are making the wheels only retail. Wouldn’t be surprised if they where selling MWS wheels as SNG Barratt do as agents I believe. The two companies I mention are the manufacturers hence straight to source. The wire wheels are all 8x18 sorry for any confusion. The other figures mentioned in the video are for the std alloy wheel. They recommend using the same staggered tyres though. Hope overall the video helped. Thanks for your input and taking the time to comment all the way from New Zealand. Must be a very rare car over there. Regards Damian

      @@ODRModurol hi damian, the xk8's are getting very rare to find downunder,mostley sourced from japan where my 1998 came from, one thing i've noticed is how rust/corrosion free it is underneath as compared to say uk cars, no salt I guess being the main factor.handy to know that the rear tyres 255 will fit on the 8" rims? as not a cheap item to have to purchase , am in the process of getting a hoist for my new workshop extentsion and then later this year the wire wheels so your info of sources was a godsend,again as with to the garage look foreward to your series, so vital when wanting to find out how to do jobs on the xk8. Thanks again Damian for another awesome and informative video. I think the XK8/R is the perfect Jag for wire wheels. I definitely would like to get some. I currently have the 19" Chrome Atlas, so I am debating about going with 19" wire wheels or moving down to 18". What do you think Damian?

    • @ODRModurol
      @ODRModurol  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mark, Thanks for the compliment. The chrome atlas are some very modern and nice looking wheels for the XK8. The wire wheels will be a real retro look compared to these alloys. What do I think? They are very expensive and you need to be sure it’s the look you want and you can get the diameter of wheel you are after. I would suggest trying to view some in person and discussing directly with one of the retailers or manufacturers your requirements. Thanks for the comment regards Damian

    Maybe I wasn't listening closely enough but I never heard you mention anything about tubes. And unless they have externally connected spokes they'd have to have tubes. Of course this would add another cost * 4. And of course the question do you want a 300 plus horsepower car with the addition of tubes that as I understand it, heat up faster don't do as well because of the friction between the tire and the tube. Of course maybe this is tubeless tire propaganda from the '70s I don't know.

    • @ODRModurol
      @ODRModurol  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lyndon, good question. The Wheels offered for the Xk8 are bolt on tubeless. This wheel from MWS has always been tubeless. Tubes are only required if fitting tube-type tyres. Hope that helps and answers your concerns. Thanks for the comment regards Damian

    That dark vert had at least 22” wheels on it. For an ‘86 pinninfarina XJ6, I’d LOVE wire wheels, but not for an X100. It’s totally overkill IMO, just like screwing a chrome leaper in the front-center of that voluptuous bonnet would be. No gracias por favor.

      Jez_Stephens, thanks for the comment. They aren't to everyone's liking but makes sure not every XK8 looks the same. Agree definitely look better on older 'classic' cars. Thanks for the comment, much appreciated regards Damian
