@@MadelnMachines it’s really hard to say without seeing your space. I’d say that if you don’t have good startup capital, put 50% of what do you have into your room treatment. Otherwise, utilize thick blankets, mattresses, pillows, and anything else you can find and use at home to start DIY treating your space! Treat your space as best you can until what’s coming out of your speakers sounds more focused and until the reverb and reflection points in your space are almost muted. Then focus on the corners of your room if you find the low end to be a bit muddy still. The answer to your question is nuanced for sure but hope this is helps!

I’d also add that imo the most important thing to invest in is yourself.
If that means buying courses or studying or just trail and error, it will be worth it.
The gear doesn’t matter as much if you or the source can’t make use of it.
An example would be me ig, I heard over and over again that hardware synths were better than software and while I had used hardware before, I wasn’t satisfied so I decided to get a new hardware synth just to realise that it was definitely fun but my skill level wasn’t there and I just got better results with software. And I as a person had different needs than others. Because while people were saying software was too much and distracting, I found the opposite to be true for me.
Long story short invest time and potentially money into yourself and your skills and experiences before making any big purchases

Here´s my take on this topic/where I´m at with it. I fell into all the pitfalls with plugins and bad mixes constantly. Long story short, now I only use stock and a few free plugins for mixing and mastering, and I only use 150 dollar open back headphones for mixing and mastering. And here´s my point, I don´t do surgical EQing, (only hipass)! And I don´t reference my songs on the phone or in the car or any speakers because my channel strip that I came up with all on my own experimenting through years of trial and error ensures that I don´t fuck up anymore. It´s such a joy every time I play my music on different speakers because it sounds amazing! All in the box, just a 2012 macbook pro and my headphones, that´s it! (I don´t even have speakers) Matz Bearpath on Spotify, YT etc. So you know I´m not bullshitting. And, with only headphones, you don´t even need room treatment... Cheers!

I have been running Neumann kh120A with an 8 inch Adam Sub for several years using Sonarworks to calibrate the system... It was always interesting to see the little differences in calibration between the Left and Right speaker depending on what was behind and around the speakers. Recently I got some PMC result 6 and an Audient NERO Monitor controller... Running sonarworks for different sets speakers seemed like too much of a headache to manage so I have ditched it completely. In place of sonarworks I have added a cloud over my mix position and 8 feet of bass trapping in each corner behind where the speakers sit. The bass in the room has gotten really tight, and the PMC's plus my old sub with no special calibration except level matching them by the feel of reference material has given me the best results as far as translation that I have ever achieved.
I agree with you about getting the best speakers you can get.. Preferably PMC! And the more acoustic treatment a person can apply, probably the better. @@bpmproductions5946 hey bro, I think something important to consider is actually the DAC. If you have a well treated room, and your cables are all in working condition, try to Demo or rent an RME ADI 2 DAC FS or a Lynx Hilo. If you still don’t like the Result 6’s, I would say that PMC probably isn’t the brand for you! What was your first or favorite previous monitor pair?

Hey man, I also have the result 6 speakers and I find them to be fantastic tools for mixing. I partner them with a 500$ adam sub and Audient Nero monitor controller. I found muddy stuff to be driving me nuts too when I first started working on the PMC's... Thats because the music was actually muddy. I used to use sonarworks with my old speakers and now just running the result 6's with a sub without calibration my mixes are working SO much better. I go between the Result 6 and a mono Mixcube and at the end of it, the mix just sounds right no matter what pair of headphones I put on after to check my mix. I suggest you just trust the speakers for a while and make your music sound good on them... I bet it translates quite well.

@melodicmomento this is awesome to hear! It gives me hope. I pair the result 6s with a neumann kh750 sub.
I will say, in trying to mix for what sounds good on the speakers, I will often take my mix somewhere else and it sounds thin and weak because I am trying to compensate for what I'm hearing. Room wizard eq legit tells me I am experiencing a 6-9db boost in that range, and that hadn't changed regardless positioning or room treatment. Is your boost that extreme too?
Thanks for the response! There's SO MUCH I love about these speakers (stereo image, separation, the mid highs/highs). I just can't seem to adjust to the huge low mid stuff.

@@potsandjacks headphones solves a lot of problems and I also grew up listening to music on headphones and earbuds a lot too. It’s a very comfortable space for me to work on music in headphones personally because of that too! The beyerdynamics are a really solid choice for sure, glad you found a way to utilize headphones well 🙏
