  • Filmed over a period of several weeks.
    This video shows how to install reverse loop modules and how they work.
    The module I've chosen to use is from the gaugemaster range to fit in with my chosen method of power and control.

    A great explanation of reversing loop modules, especially the coloured bits of wire, a great job. Regards, Geoff.

    Love the bench work and the layout. Can’t wait to see some scenery to see what you do. Great explanation regarding the reversing loop. Awesome.

      Cheers! Im itching to get stuck into it but got to work my way through a tick list first!.
      Very impressive build on your layout and good to see another open frame build. Sub'd to you.

    Thank you for the advice and know how of installing the reversing loop,I was always banging my head to sort that one out very clear on your explanation,neat and tidy as well "Gauge Master " (but i shall look for the cheaper one's as you had mentioned) I had noticed it works either on DC or DCC ,but must order the correct one As i did call "Gauge Master" for confirmation and advice " they do both,as my layout as my layout is "DC" as i only require 2 only one at each end !! Thank you once again.Carol

    I wish we had more houses with actual attic space that was usable over here in Canada where I am. My attic is small is just full of blown in insulation. If I had an attic space I could use I could surely have a layout. Without sadly not.

    Really good job m8. As the name suggests, I am new to all this and have only created one Thomas layout for a birthday present. I have started a Great War layout for my second.

    Great video and enjoying the series, just wondered if you plan to have more than the single loop representing Exeter Central, as now it seems as though you can only have a single train there

      Future plan is to move the top end the loop into a large roof space behind the backscenes (this will increase the open secnic line before the tunnel mouth and will give me more room to run 2 trains on this section. It will remain as being a loop.

    Yet another thing to incorporate in the layout design. I had wondered about the reverse modules and now you have confirmed its value. Thanks for sharing that! BTW, are my eyes tricking me? Your diamond looks a wee bit odd. As ever a great update and I look forward to seeing the progress of this fab layout. Cheers - Pete

      Cheers Pete. The crossing does look odd in the video, I'm guessing the non respaced sleepers on the crossing draws your eye in. Ive still to adjust the sleepers on all the track around it so it fits in. With ballast and weathering it should blend in perfect.

    Good video. Can I ask if the Reversing Module would work on DC or does it have to be DCC.

      This module I have is only for dcc only.
      I'm aware there is modules out there for dc but not sure on which ones they are.

    Great update, have you had any accidents/derailments when testing the new loop? It looks a long way down from your layout tracks! Cheers Matt.

    • @thescrapline4905
      @thescrapline4905  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers Matt. Nope all runs well up and down (though i do need to keep an eye on the power input going up and down) the rise is upto 2 inches over a distance of around 7ft give or take. No de-railments yet.

    Was that the Gaugemaster, Prodigy Auto Reverse Loop Module, DCC40 you used?

  • @MrVinnyh
    @MrVinnyh 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I purchased a reverse polarity on EBay it was just a few quid cheaper than your Gauge-master, only thing was it didn't last! On the plus side the Gauge-master is smaller and neater.

    • @thescrapline4905
      @thescrapline4905  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Was it the ones from block signalling products? If so I'll avoid those for the other 2 loops on the layout.

    How does this work when you have an all wheel pickup loco and each bogie is on a separate side of the insulated rail joiners ?

    • @thescrapline4905
      @thescrapline4905  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the current in the track either side of the rail joiners is miss matched the as soon as the loco passes over that isolated section then the reverse module will switch it quicker than it would short out.. so when the whole train has done the loop and comes back down again the polarity is switched the other way. Simple as that.

    • @brianmcaleer3958
      @brianmcaleer3958 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thescrapline4905 OK thanks. So by that I assume that the entire train doesn't have to be in the track section switched by the reverse module ?

    • @thescrapline4905
      @thescrapline4905  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@brianmcaleer3958 nope. As soon as the first set of wheels touch the loop it'll flick the polarity. However the whole train will need to be in that loop section when it comes back down the other side and crosses back over.

    You know you can get sound chips for your locos so you don’t have to dub unrealistic sounds over the footage?

    • @thescrapline4905
      @thescrapline4905  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep aware that I can add sound to my locos, something that's low down my list.
      I would have to disagree over dub'd over sound sounding unrealistic..
      All the recordings I have are downloaded high quality sound and unlike the recording of a sound loco that's already been recorded and then recorded again - which sounds awful as its diluted down, doesn't sound realistic when watching it on a video. It just sounds tinny.
      Listen to my videos with headphones on and the sound is a crisp as the real thing. Get the timing just right and it sounds even better.
