Bent piece of rail to manage fishplates?! Worth watching the video for that alone. Great to see a big chunk of progress. You must be well pleased. 😀 Funny how things suddenly ‘happen’. Off to find your tips on double slips now. 😳
This brings me back to an accounting class I had many, many years ago. We would all get excited, and the teacher would just smile, shake his head, and say "boys, boys, the balance sheet is SUPPOSED to balance!" However, I have experienced many things since then that didn't go as they were supposed to. I liked your joy when things worked, and dismay when things didn't. Such is life. Great video.
I love how I come back to these videos over time. I’m thinking about having a reverse loop to enable continuous running in a spare room n scale layout.
Yes, Charlie, another gem. I have watched this video several times now; and learn something new each time ! Thank you. What is my main 'take away' from this video ? Just how much work, and 'investment' you have accomplished so far. I am humbled.
Hi Charlie, another brilliant video - thank you. I certainly would like to see the build of H2 especially as there would be some improvements in the learnings from H1. Either way i'm sure it will be entertaining!
Hi Charlie, Excellent piece of work, you should be very proud of yourself. Great to see some trains running as well. Keep up the fantastic work, we are all right behind you.
hi charlie again another brilliant video with brill content. i loved the way you made the reverse loop so easy to install and get up and running. hope yourself and the family are all well. peter
Hi charlie I will admit watching your channel over the past few years I have done what you have done gone into dcc and I'm looking at computer control eventually on my new n gauge loft layout when I'm allowed to go in there new built house I've m9ved into. Love your videos on technology please keep them coming and I hope that your layout will be computer controlled. Hope yourself and the family are all well and thank you for commenting back. Peter
I too would be pleased to see construction of H2, but the final choice is of course yours. Your videos give me great pleasure and I avidly look forward to watching them. Thank you for sharing.
Blimey Charlie, that was like an endurance event! 😅 Been offline a while so to speak so it’s been good catching up with your channel again! Great to see that fiddle yard near completion and all seeing that everything seems to work pretty well…well, almost everything! 😉 I hope you did have a good rest on that sun lounger of yours! 😎 Cheers mate, all the best! 👍🍀🍻
Your fishplate fitter is simpler than mine. I soldered a short piece of rail at about 60 degrees to the end of an old screwdriver. My other gadget is a modification to a pair of flat nosed pliers. In the centre of one jaw, I ground a slot just wider than the width of the top of the rail, and deep enough to reach the foot of the rail. The other jaw is un-touched. This gadget allows easy removal of a METAL or PLASTIC fishplate from a piece of track by locating the slotted jaw over the rail at the end of the fishplate, locating the other jaw at the end of the rail, CLOSE the jaws and the fishplate is removed without damage to fishplate OR fingers! Glad to see you are wearing your toe protectors when moving boards !! I think the sound and improved loco control with DCC is wonderful, but all these electronic boxes leave me cold. I wired some extra sidings with loco sensors, went back to it 2 weeks later after tweaking back muscles under the boards, and could not remember what I had done! Age catching up. Why can't we afford to do our hobby when young and fit? Anyway ,enough of my whinging. I think the high level return loop is favourite.
While all your videos are great viewing, it was excellent to see you on the tools and trains running again. With us being of similar age, my wife gave me that knowing look when I replayed your hearing test segment. 😁
Charlie, thank you for another excellent video, in answer to your question, yes, please video the Helix Two build warts an all, your humour and problem solving are a joy to watch
Some years ago I had a layout in the attic of the house my wife and I lived in. However, following a divorce, not only the wife went, but the house as well. So no more layout. I've been watching you build this layout (never miss an episode) and it has (almost) served as a substitute for my own model. Thank you Charlie, for providing this railway modeller's methadone!
Hi Charlie, Thanks for the shout out Sir! The old AR1 also caused havoc with Electronic Circuit breakers! The speed of the electronic CB's would trip quicker than the old relay could swap the polarity! Luckily , you can adjust the trip time on the NCE CB's so I had to "slow" them down to give the old AR1 time to trip! Good job on the new work and thanks again for the reference! CHeers Gregg.
Hi Charlie. Excellent video as usual. You keep the banner of the hobby high! If I may come with a suggestion for your numbering of your swiches. Use three numbers for eachswitch instead: First number being the same as your board ( number them 0 to 9 instead of 1-10). Then use the following to numbers for the swiches. So #706 would be the swich 6 on table 7.
Hi Charlie, a very good video, I’ve rewatched this a couple of times to trying to sort out reversing loop wiring. You may so easy and the board looks early tidy.
Hi Charlie I just need to say. Your videos allways gets me in a good mood. You have a way of describing the work arounds that always puts a smile on my face. Thank you for sharing your progress with us😊
Charlie, you have worked hard on Chadwick, and it has been well worth the time of the build to get it to run smoothly. You have accomplished a lot on the layout through all its stages of building so far. I enjoyed seeing the rolling stock making their way around in a full circuit without any real hiccups. You should therefore give yourself a big pat on the back. Being Northern Irish, just make sure the bro 'Pat' hasn't had a bigger feed of Guinness and a jumbo Ulster Fry or he will be too weighty to carry (He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother, LOL).
So glad you managed to fit a reverse loop in, Charlie. Will make a world of difference and add a lot of interest to how you can run your trains. It will take away the 'tail chaser' element for some trains, with anyone viewing the layout not knowing where the train will appear from next. It will add so much realism, you will be able to disappear down one helix, run around the reversing loop, then maybe wait in one of the roads of the fiddle yard for a period of time, before reappearing back from the direction it disappeared in the first place. Certainly a fantastic addition to the already great layout!
Hi Charlie, I'm 77 & just starting out to build my first model railway. You are an inspiration to us all old & young. I watch a lot of model railroaders to get ideas but you are the yardstick to go to. Your not afraid to make mistakes & show them on camera, who else does that? In the end like it or not it all works. We all have our own ideas on how to do things right or wrong but if we don't go far from your ideas it will work out. I am planning a two level layout in a 14' x 14' room as i've been forbidden to enter the loft on safety grounds. It will be all DCC & Peco code 100 track with electrofrog points & seep motors (cost wise) as there are 50 of them. The electrics frightened the life out of me but watching your video's & one step at a time I'm sure I can get it working. This is a big thank you for all the help you give. Long may it stay, we all need you. Regards, Robin Cook.
And the reverse loop worked the first time. You've reached the point where we all must reverently refer to you as Charlie Bishop, Master Model Railroader.
Superb Charlie - an UNREAL update! Please do post a video of the helix construction. Also please don’t ever think you need to ask if you shouldn’t post something - you’re a master of your craft and people can only learn from you!
Charlie I'm the one who suggested Tom's trains and things do the review on the bparx88 I'm also a channel member on there I recommend checking out the Monday night live chats as we have good clean fun that starts at 7:55 pm eastern standard time (USA)
Hi Charlie, Another fabulous episode, You put a lot of us to shame Your wiring is ace, you must have a lot of patience when sorting it all out. The thing iv'e got to get my head round is how long this all takes, loads done in only 3 days WOW! thanks for another great update. Regards Alan
Brillant Charlie. Looking at your replies to ther comments I am really pleased that you will film the H2 build as I would have requested you do so. Shame I haven't got the room to have helixes but I love watching you do yours. Regards Terry
VERY GOOD VIDEO I will again have to watch it a few times before it sinks in but your wiring looks a lot tidier than mine so I need to improve in that direction but thanks agian Charlie I live in Thailand and I can not just pop down to my local model railway club for advice , so your videos are invaluable to me so Thank you very much
Really great video Charlie. Some great comments too. Look forward to seeing your build of H2. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and skills. Always look forward to seeing your updates. Roy.
HI CHARLEY AT THE 18 MINUTES OF THE VLOG IT LOOKS LIKE YOU HAVE SOME FITTINGS THAT WILL STAY VISIBLE IT WOULD BE GOOD IF YOU PUT SOME HOUSES THERE NOT GLUED DOWN BUT JUST SITTING OVER THE FITTINGS SO IF YOU EVER NEED TO WORK ON THEM YOU CAN LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING THE HELIX BEING BUILT ONE THING THAT WORRIES ME IS WHEN SOME OF YOU BUILDERS FINISH YOUR BUILD WHAT WILL YOU ALL DO WITH YOU FREE TIME I REALLY ENJOY WATCHING YOU I FIND YOU TO BE A VERY FUNNY MAN AND YOU DO VERY GOOD WORK GRAHAM IN THAILAND
Great to see the progress on the layout and the thrill of the blue Pullman making the run all the way round. It is encouraging that you leave the bumps in the road in such as the duplicate addresses as it helps us home modellers see that even the best make mistakes. As for the next video helix two would be my preference then you can have even more fun with the longer run. 😃
Well done Charlie! You have now graduated from the School of Selective Deafness. Many years of practice are needed to perfect this skill, just like railway modelling!
Another great video Charlie. I think what I like most about your videos is the explanation of what works, what doesn't work and what you do to get around the issues. Though I run Digitrax command stations and throttles I do use Dual Frog Juicers for my reverse loops. Works well for me. I did notice something. You have about 10 -12 inches of isolated track between the turnouts and the reverse loop. With a little more wiring you and a couple more Digitrax devices you can automate throwing the the turnouts into the correct position as the train hits each of the track sections. There is a video explaining how to do that on a reverse loop from either direction. I will look for it and post it here if you want to view it. Let me know.
You make a very interesting point about the automatic throwing of a point. However, using train controller, I don’t think that’s appropriate. I would hate to think the point would throw if another train was coming off the helix. Regards Charlie
Hi Charlie really enjoyed this video. Brilliant tip for putting insulated fish plates on . The amount of times I've struggled with them is frightening.
A train has finally run all the way around Chadwick Model Railway. Well done Charlie. I like to see all the Digi-Track components working. I shall never go DCC because of the cost of all the systems and it also looks like I will never be buying a new locomotive, again because of the ever increases in price. Whilst it is nice to see all of the finer details on today's Locomotives and rolling stock, it has become more of a collectors market. Still, I will always have your layout and others to watch on TH-cam.Just a Helix and another reverse loop to go. It must have been very satisfying to control the first train. Martin. (Thailand)
Love it and just do the Helix and get it out of the way. You will then feel much better Charlie. We don't need to see a video on the second helix though as we already have the first one. Just MHO.
@@ChadwickModelRailway always remember though that it is your railway to do with whatever you wish. You are the CEO, CME and the CFO or perhaps that position belongs to your better half. But that is OK too. I love your videos.
Hi Charlie, Thank you for all the time and effort you put into your videos. They are so instructive. It is nice to see the occasional hic-up! Just like real life for the rest of us. I'm sure most presenters edit out the problems they have.
Bent piece of rail to manage fishplates?! Worth watching the video for that alone. Great to see a big chunk of progress. You must be well pleased. 😀 Funny how things suddenly ‘happen’. Off to find your tips on double slips now. 😳

An excellent comment Ray. I do hope that Helix built lives up to your expectations. Regards Charlie

As for the next video helix two would be my preference then you can have even more fun with the longer run. 😃
I think you’re right Peter, I shall build H2 next. Regards Charlie
Well done Charlie! You have now graduated from the School of Selective Deafness. Many years of practice are needed to perfect this skill, just like railway modelling!
Dead right Al, I’ve joined an elite club.
Enjoyed that as always Charlie. Definite vote for seeing the H2 build.
It’s a deal David, regards Charlie
Great video as usual. I would love to see you build the helix. Please
It’s a deal mate, regards Charlie
Hi Charlie really enjoyed this video. Brilliant tip for putting insulated fish plates on . The amount of times I've struggled with them is frightening.
I’m so pleased that you found it useful Graham. Regards Charlie
Martin. (Thailand)
Hi Martin, I couldn’t agree more regarding the price of new locomotives.
I’m so pleased that you’re still on board with the channel, regards Charlie
Love it and just do the Helix and get it out of the way. You will then feel much better Charlie. We don't need to see a video on the second helix though as we already have the first one. Just MHO.
Thanks Alan, regards Charlie
@@ChadwickModelRailway always remember though that it is your railway to do with whatever you wish. You are the CEO, CME and the CFO or perhaps that position belongs to your better half. But that is OK too. I love your videos.
Thanks Charlie for another great video! Mainly I look into your videos and enjoy the landscaping aspect of our great hobby.
Thanks Roger, I’m so pleased you found this one interesting. Regards Charlie
Hi Charlie, Thank you for all the time and effort you put into your videos. They are so instructive. It is nice to see the occasional hic-up! Just like real life for the rest of us. I'm sure most presenters edit out the problems they have.
I think you’re right David, I think most people do reshoot their issues.
What we all need is a bit more honesty. Regards Charlie
Fantastic Charlie . You need a dram and a lie down in the garden. Great work although that Class 37 sounded ropey . Well done
I have never liked that 37 sound file either David.
looking good charlie glad you got the time to do all that hard work well done
Thanks Derek, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it mate. Regards Charlie
