    Thank you for remaking this video. I bought a Heil Talk Box a couple years ago at a yard sale and never figured out how to use it. The connections are not very well explained in the back and this finally helped understand how to do it. Anxiously waiting for my female-female adapter to arrive so I can test it!

      @@MarkPeotter oh no, I think I blew out my friend's amp tubes lmao. So I had things rigged exactly how you showed. Speaker outs of the amp going into the left "from amplifier output" ins of the talkbox, then the speaker cable from the amp (using the f-f adapter) to the "to speaker enclosure" end of the talkbox. I clicked on the footpedal and started hearing a very faint sound. I remembered you said you need quite a bit of gain so I cranked it up and the amp started smoking!! Any idea what I did wrong? Or you think the pedal is broken? In either case I think that was my last time trying I'm going to have to get this amp repaired. Hopefully it's just a matter of replacing the tubes.

      @@fiscaldisco5234 OMG! Well, it's too late now, and I am not a "Heil Technical Support Rep". From what you wrote, it seems like it should have worked. I wish I were there to work with you. But, here is my trouble shooting advice, anyhow. #1 Be sure to use speaker cables, not instrument or headphone cables. #2 Connect ONLY the first cable - from the amplifier "speaker out" to the Heil "from amplifier output". #3 Turn on the amp, play the guitar. If you don't hear anything in that Heil box, then your Heil box is probably broken. Turn the amp off. If you DO hear your guitar in the guitar amp's speaker, this is also bad, because you should only hear one or the other on at a time.

    Finally a video that explains to me I was confused I bought the MXR talk box and although I’ve been having some fun the last couple of days without a microphone or running it through any amplification I thought I just plug my guitar in the input and output to my amp.So I have a question what if I just run A microphone to another guitar amp because I don’t have a PA? And one more thing what kind of microphone do you recommend?sure microphone maybe.Love the video very informative.

    • @MarkPeotter
      @MarkPeotter  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The short answer is Yes, it is possible to amplify a microphone with a guitar amp. But you should understand high and low impedance, also.

    • @MarkPeotter
      @MarkPeotter  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The long answer goes like this, Microphones can be either High Impedance or Low Impedance. High impedance mics will have an output level similar (not identical) to your guitar. If you intend to buy a mic to amplify through your guitar amp, you would choose a high impedance mic. However, I do NOT recommend this, because high impedance mics have poorer fidelity quality, and they feedback easier than low impedance mics. By far , you should use an amp that is made for low impedance mics, such as a PA. A third option is to get an amplifier that is made to accommodate BOTH a guitar and a low impedance mic as two separate inputs.

    I have a pedal board with a tuner, wah, od/boost and then the talk box into a vox valvetronics ads50. I have no idea how to hook it up. I have a mic into a pa. I’m assuming you need an a/b switch

    • @MarkPeotter
      @MarkPeotter  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching, but I am sorry that you still don't understand how to set it up? If you read the other comment questions, you may notice that most of my answers are the same. The Heil Talk Box is merely a small speaker cabinet. It is not an effect pedal. If you are using a different brand of talk box, my instructions will not work. Connect a speaker cable from the "speaker out" of your guitar amplifier to the talk box "In". Do not use an a/b switch. Connect a second speaker cable from the talk box "Out / Bypass" to the speaker cabinet you use for your guitar amp.

    Is the dound supposed to stop coming out of the guitar amp when you switch the talkbox on and come exclusively out of the tube/ mic PA or is it the signal supposed to come out of both the guitar amp and the mic at the same time?

    • @MarkPeotter
      @MarkPeotter  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      With this model of the Heil Talk Box, when it is "ON" the sound only comes out of the tube.

    • @gerroldmayfield3346
      @gerroldmayfield3346 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. The button is an a/b switch. When you engage the talkbox it disconnects the speaker.

    • @MarkPeotter
      @MarkPeotter  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gerroldmayfield3346 Just to make sure we are both giving good advice, the button on the Heil box, is ON / BYPASS. When it is ON the sound goes to the small Heil Speaker which goes to the plastic tubing. When it is BYPASS the Heil Speaker is OFF and the signal continues to the right side of the Heil box.

    Is it possible to route this into my Daw using a MIDI keyboard instead of a guitar and audio interface? If so how?

      I should note, I also have the mic routed in there as well

    • @MarkPeotter
      @MarkPeotter  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ad-ll6he I need to understand your set up. If you have a mic whose output is processed inside the synthesizer, then yes, you could try to velcro-tie the tube of the talk box next to your mic. However, you will still need a guitar amplifier (or equivalent) to power the talk box.

    • @MarkPeotter
      @MarkPeotter  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I understand your set up, the answer is No. However, there is another product that produces a similar sound specifically made for keyboards. The generic term is "Vocorder" and it is included in some keyboards. If you have seen those small keyboards with a thin podium mic coming out like an antennae, that may be the vocorder. th-cam.com/users/shortsqcixaa4YfEs?feature=share

      @@MarkPeotter I have a novation launchkey 49 keys, a presonus audiobox 96 interface, and syereo monitors with an amp. I was hoping to could direct the synth sound from a VST controlled by my keyboard from my interface through the talkbox, and then route that and a mic back into the interface to record. Does that make sense or am I completely lost?

    • @MarkPeotter
      @MarkPeotter  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you for explaining your set up. Very creative idea! Here is how it "might" work: The VST synthetisizer sound comes into the monitor side of your A/D interface. That is a "line level signal". Now it must be amplified, maybe by your monitor amp, loud enough to drive the Talk Box. Remove one speaker cable that was going to a monitor speaker and plug it into the input of the Talk Box. (Most Talk Box questions can be answered by remembering that the Talk Box is an 8 Ohm speaker.) Be sure your Monitor Amp is looking for an 8 Ohm speaker. Now you should hear your synthesizer sound in the Talk Box tube. Very important, be sure to prevent a feedback loop in the DAW! Make sure that the audio out signal goes to a channel or bus that is NOT monitored. Also, move that monitor speaker which is still plugged in away from your mic, or unplug it, if your amp allows you to do so safely. Tell me if this works!

      The adapter connected the speaker cable from the talk box to the speaker in the guitar amp. This allows you to hear the guitar normally when you hit the talk box switch, bypassing the talk box.
