It's probably nearly impossible for those who haven't gone through it to appreciate how tough the separation is on families. The strength of that woman that held it all together is unbelievable, and it's strong women and families like this that still give me a glimmer of hope for America.

I watch a lot of this reunion on youtube, it brings me tears sometimes. However, some of the love one will never come back. I just wish there will have no more war so that every family could see thier love and lived happily ever after.

my dad was gone a lot but he surprised me at home and i cried seeing him for the first time in a long time
I don't realise how thankful I should be, that I see my family everyday and dont have to go through the pain of not having them their because their at risk of dying in another country.
My dad died in Iraq and I sobbed watching this thinking of my dad.

I had an experience like this but with my older brother. I live in Louisiana USA and my big brother was stationed in Japan and we weren't scheduled to see him for about nine months. And my three nieces as well. Well they called us from "Japan" and wished us a merry Christmas and we said good bye. Five minutes later they knocked on the front door and gave us the surprise of a lifetime it was so amazing. I can't even describe the happiness that I felt.
My dads going to be deployed again 16 months this time....

My dad wasn't in the military or anything, thank the lord, but I just wish he was still here to see me accomplish so much. It's only been 3 months, no 15 year old girl wants to lose their dad so suddenly! I love you Dad, RIP my angel.

National Guard and Reserves deploy for the same lengths that active duty do, and for the past decade, almost as rapidly as the active component does (especially for certain job codes). He is a SGM too, so he's going for sure. - signed, former active duty SGT, Army.
