I adopted my step daughter when she was 9. Greatest thing I ever did in my life. She'll be 38 this year and we still celebrate adoption day every year.
Strictly a formality because he clearly has been a great father to her for many years. She loves him and her excitement to be his official daughter was awesome to witness. Thanks for sharing.
It was like it didn't even exist for her any more! Though I reckon the entire house could have collapsed around her that point, and she wouldn't have noticed that either - her Dad wanted to be officially her Dad, and that was all that mattered! So heartwarming - and I think she might have just also broken the land speed record there, in her rush to find something to sign those papers with... :)
Especially because there was no question that she would accept, and she wouldn’t have objected if he did do it without asking her. Just showing a little extra love by letting her have the choice.
Nicely done, Dad. Like the way you gave her the final decision on being adopted. She had ten years to ask you. Believe that her yes was heartfelt and true. Congratulations to the newly formed family!😊
Love that she didn’t break down. She’s genuinely excited and elated, that’s for certain, but she also projects confidence in a way that shows you that she is completely secure in her dad’s love for her, she doesn’t doubt it for a minute and hasn’t ever, she already sees him as her dad and doesn’t question that view. She doesn’t take him for granted, but she knows he’s her dad and is secure in that knowledge, so this surprise to her is a thrill; no tears, just joy. The fact that he managed to give her such confidence in his love and commitment that she never once needed reassurance speaks to an amazing knack for parenting.
