Staggering / just trying to keep up and play along with this man … I end up stopping and just leaning back in my chair to let the beauty wash over me - wow. Let the master play.
No he didn’t he could play every instrument and was really talented in the art of layering music which is why his music sounds like his music because he made it every piece in every plaice
I'm pretty sure on his studio recordings like this one, he double tracked (or even triple tracked) his acoustic guitar... in fact, I borrowed that technique from him for my own music! But I agree with you, this comment is very true for his live performances
That "all the moooore" with the fm chord at 1:55 and the build up to it is so fucking good. Elliott really knew how to pull off those build up-release moments
here's the foreign sun on holiday meeting her eyes about halfway a look you know it's killed many men and i've been all of them, inside a week see the man on the bar who got too drunk to speak. he adores that song mundane as it is days in a dream that wasn't his night's about the top of the lift where continents drift too far away to keep it together for long, on this half holiday from the bar they walk to place pigalle the taxi waved down goodnight, sleep well now it's just a step to the door and he wants all the more to bring her away out of this temporary half holiday
I think it's "Nights up at the top of a lift" since about doesn't make a lot of sense here. One more correction: "He endures that song, mundane as it is". This could work with both lyrics but you can hear him enunciate the 'n'. Also if you look at it thematically, it makes more sense. He lives his day in a dream that isn't his or in other words, lives in a thing that wasn't made for him, in a relationship that won't last more than the length of the trip. So he endures the day or the song as he calls it. The first line could also be: "the foreign son" - literal foreigner in Paris.
@@mrdaniel511 oh yeah totally. I actually agree with you. When i posted this i just copied it from a lyric website. All the corrections you posted sound much more accurate.

Jason Pollock oh Elliott left many great songs off of albums because they didn’t quite fit the album’s sound. He was really big on that and wrote many songs for albums that didn’t make the cut. They are all beautiful
@@sagasitches6730 an attempt that he also nails imo. I think Elliott's perfectionism is a huge part of why so many great songs were cut from his records, but also why even his posthumous releases have a consistent sound and recurring themes, or even pull from the inspirations. Elliott's spin on The Beatles' sound on that record blows me away and imo I even hear parts of it in the outro on this track.
He's singing "He endures, that's all, mundane as it is". As a human being, he is merely enduring. It makes sense in terms of Elliott's life. Elliott played a chord per syllable sometimes
Exactly! A constantly moving melody taking you along on a ride. So precious
great observation!

No doubt. Learning his songs on guitar has forced me to get better.
this has to be my favorite song ever. Elliott was so amazing

The greatest songwriter of his generation. Perhaps any generation
Rest your soul. You fucking brilliant shining star.
Incredibly beautiful - what a treasury of astonishing songs Mr Smith left us. He opens a very special place in my being. Thank you

Going to pigalle today for the second time in my life. Didn't know elliott the first, this time I'll take him with me on this half holiday

I love the very first chords of Bottle Up and Explode for this reason. He literally does a Bottle Up and Explode with the first chords
As with many Elliott Smith songs, the magic begins near the end: 2:06
For me, the magic begins at 0:01
He does nothing but magic, but I agree, he can take a song to the house
If I were to estimate, I've probably listened to this song 250 times.

Wow es la primera vez que escucho esta canción secreta de Elliott, tiene tantas joyas secretas me sorprende siempre
Brilliant music artist 😊🎶❤️🌈😊🎶❤️🌈
I love you elliott. I hope you’re happy wherever and whoever you are now ❤

Does anyone have any speculation about why Elliott didn't put this on Figure 8?
Jason Pollock oh Elliott left many great songs off of albums because they didn’t quite fit the album’s sound. He was really big on that and wrote many songs for albums that didn’t make the cut. They are all beautiful
it wasn't poppy enough. i think he was looking to emulate the early beatles on fig8

he endures, that's all, mundane as it is
The lyrics at the start of the second verse are: He endures, that's all, mundane as it is.
You clearly hear him singing "endures". It doesn't sound like adores at all. And it doesn't even make sense. What song does he adore?

So, just so we're clear, you're absolutely certain, and that's fine, but my certitude is a problem? Can you explain why that would be, oh wise one?
