I got to see him live in early 1998 - it was right after Good Will Hunting had come out - I thought it would be packed - the club was only half full - I got to stand right near the front - still have some great pics I took on my Kodak disposable camera (remember those?) the ticket costs me 8.00 - best 8 bucks I’ve ever spent. I’m not sure why it was so cheap - may have been a promotional thing through college radio ? He played a few songs by himself and then brought a band out to play with him. I was 19 years old - time flies kiddos.

@@BadDreamFucker For sure. Kind of a strange username you've got- I always assumed that lyric was a reference to Charlie Welch, Smith's stepfather. When Smith tried to raise the alarm about his supposed abuse at the hands of Welch, the man denied it and Smith's mother would not believe it. "It was just bad dream" is a common trope in these situations. Many of his lyrics seem to strongly suggest Welch- "mostly they'd meet when he was asleep...," "Charlie got a band in his hand...," -as well as the fallout between Smith and his mother. I'm not sure I'd want to name myself after someone's source of extreme and life-altering trauma, but that's just me.

Nobody is an E flat major barre chord (x68886) Heart is a G minor barre chord (355333) and Broke at the start of the next measure is just an open C chord without fingering the fifth (x32000) which is why the other guy said Cm but it's still a major chord (these chords are relative to D standard tuning so they're not the actual notes.
