Finally someone like me who knew immediately that the mum and kids were ghosts as soon as the seance appeared. I mean it's super obvious. So many reactors act confused until the old lady says "Is that how she killed you?" Lol

I knew that immediately as a CHILD when this came out. This latest generation is truly, truly dumber than any other generation in human history. For the first time ever, the younger generation has less ability to reason, pick up on context clues, and has a far smaller breadth of knowledge than their parents. There are anomalies, obviously, but the global IQ average has gone down, significantly.

It's not super obvious at all. You can only suspect it if you watched The Sixth Sense first, but The Others plays with the concept so much better.

@@dannyjorde2677 It's extremely obvious. The colours of the people at the table are brighter and more stark, they're having a SEANCE, which means they're trying to contact spirits. The woman and kids are always in a cold bluish tone, they can't seem to leave the grounds, seeming stuck in the house...this together with Sixth sense precedent and the 'they were dead the whole time' trope becoming a part of pop culture it came to me immediately as soon as I saw the woman drawing with her eyes glazed over asking questions.

@@aaronbarlow4376 None of the things you mention makes it obvious lmao, it's just the aesthetic of the movie. In The Sixth Sense is painfully obvious since the beginning, the movie actually tells you. But The Others does it much better and 90% of people didn't predict. You simply were familiar about the twist of The Sixth Sense, but that's it.

@@dannyjorde2677 The selective colour pallette was intentional, the woman and kids ( as well as the help and the hubby) were desaturated and pale looking. Them not being able to leave is a big clue. But yeah knowing the Sixth sense twist helped. I actually guessed the Sixth sense twist early on as it was way more obvious. Maybe I'm just smarter and more perceptive in some ways than 90% of people.

It's one of the saddest films I've ever seen 😢

How did people wake up? Actually, this movie is set in the 1940s and they did have wind up alarm clocks that you didn't need electricity for back then. It was before my time, but I've seen them in movies made back then. I can't remember when I read alarm clocks were invented, but I think they've existed for hundreds of years.
And before alarm clocks were invented, a lot of people had a rooster and would wake up when he crowed around dawn.
I've also read that scientists have done some kind of study that suggests all of our modern technology that wakes us up and reminds us of appointments may be decreasing our memories, or our brains' ability to remember things on their own. They think before alarm clocks, and even before we had paper and the ability to jot down notes for ourselves, our brains had a greater capacity to remember things if only because we had to. It may be, before alarm clocks, our brains developed a good sense of when it was time to wake up. Modern technology is kind of reprogramming our brains so we can't do things our ancestors had to.

Actually, before alarm clocks, in a lot of places they hired someone who would go from house to house to wake people up in the morning. They were called knocker-ups.

Who screams waking up like that? Someone who's just had a nightterror!

She has an OIL lamp , not a "gas light".

It could have been worse. The spider could have come out while you were watching Arachnaphobia.

What kind of accent do you have? British-Irish or NE United States?

None actually. I get asked this a lot, but I'm from Virginia. I think it's a combo of my lisp and summers in London as a kid where my aunt lived.

Tis bad luck to kill a spider inside the home.
