I learned from other commenters that Kidman almost quit this movie because of the stresses of producing such an amazing performance. One interesting facet is the fact that the Channel Islands (located between France and England) were overtaken and occupied by the Nazis from 1940 to 1945. The Islanders surrendered without a fight. The supply ships from both sides were blocked, and the Islands were isolated without any food. The conditions were so horrible that violence was inevitable. A mother could very well have taken the life of her children rather than starve to death.
One of my favourite horror movies. Anne saying that the toast tasted better before, it’s because food tastes better when you’re alive and actually need it to live. This movie is cool even rewatching when you know the twist you pick up on little things
Yeah, she's always done great work throughout her career. For some reason people continue to overlook her talent. Maybe due to the "Hollywood marriage" overshadowing things for a while, or her classically attractive features. It's a head scratcher.
I’ve loved this film for nearly 20 years. Saw it in the theater where, when the end is revealed, a man in the theater actually said right out loud “holy 💩!” And a lot of us verbally agreed 😂 only time I’ve ever been in a theater with strangers and we were all completely locked in, and collectively thought the same thing and everyone knew it. It’s my humble opinion as a horror connoisseur, that this is one of the best horror films of all time. The atmosphere, the premise, the gorgeous yet dreary period setting, that ultra original, utterly genius, very existential script filled w/ terror, tragedy and one hell of an incredible perspective, all brilliantly directing by Amenabar; and that location, perfect for the tone of the film. With enough suspense to literally make one’s skin crawl, and one’s heart pound in one’s ear. Just expertly done from start to finish. The kind of exceptional horror film that comes along about once every decade. As great as it is, it’s almost criminally overlooked and drastically underrated. Despite a staggeringly exceptional performance by Kidman, rivaling that of Mia Farrow in Rosemary’s Baby. Carrying practically the whole film, she expertly shares the fear, sadness, desperation, loneliness, rigid staunchness of beliefs, love of her children despite the horrifying things she did before they came to the other side, trepidation and sheer terror, with us whole heartedly. Kidman turned in an Oscar worthy performance here, and no matter how many times I’ve seen it, it’s always an incredible performance and film. Thank you for reacting to it.
I’m not a fan of horror genre movies, but I like this movie. Now that you know the twist, rewatching it a second time makes for a completely different viewing experience.
This movie is inspired by the movie The Innocents, an excellent movie from the 60s, which is based on the Turn of the Screw by Henry James. I highly recommend it. It’s a novella so it’s short but it’s incredible how scary it is for how long ago it was written. The atmosphere created by the writing is intense.
She wanted you to know that she was ok. I had a very similar experience after my grandma died. Her spirit was still in the house up until about 4 months after she passed. I sometimes get messages from dead family members either as warnings, or guides. They love us still. It's not always easy to process.
Loved the story about your grandmother at the end. There are surprisingly many people who've had experiences they can't explain and are often reluctant to speak about. I do believe there's more in this world that we're currently able to prove or detect with science. Or as Shakespeare put it, there's more things in heaven earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy
Can you do one of these? Sixth sense, house on haunted hill, haunting (with Owen Wilson), what lies beneath? Those were my first horror movies to watch, and i still love them.😊
This movie has a tragic end in my opinion. The woman and her Kids are trapped forever inside of this house because she's too stubborn to properly move on. She can't let go, even in death.
What I love about this movie is that there's nothing actually scary in it.. LOL...Nicole Kidman is an A list actress. Been nominated 4 times for Oscars. Won once.
this used to be in my top 5 movies ever. its gone down as other movies have come and knocked it down...it is still in my top 10 though. Nicole Kidman kills it in this movie. she is my 2nd fav actress of all time. what I like about this movie is the tone and tension. everyone almost whispers and it creates this eerie vibe. The twist is fantastic and is unexpected. It doesn't need to rely on gore or cheap junpscares. its all about tone and vibe that makes this a wonderful horror movie.
Thai movie is very good to rewatch; once you know the twist, the behaviour of Nicole and how she searched for curtains and threw everything around seems so fitting.
Modern horror movie masterpiece! Gore and blood is not horror, as my dear father used to say, mood and atmosphere really can make it. Never tired to rewatch this gem. Bravo!!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Movies 1408 and Case 39 are great movies. John Cusack and Samuel l Jackson are in 1408 and Bradley Cooper and Renee Zellweger are in case 39. Also The Invasion with Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig is great too and The Interpreter is great with Sean Penn and Nicole Kidman. Please put those up on a poll and see if they win so you can do a Live reaction. Hope you and your family are doing well and always love your reactions. 😁
One of the best and most effective horror movies ever made and too many people don't even know about it. Great performances from everyone, and the music and editing is nuts. Halloween classic right here.
Kidman was nominated for Best Actress by the BAFTA Film and Golden Globe Awards. She didn't win. She was outstanding in this role. Love the twist of this movie. Thanks for reacting. My grandmother, who lived with us, died when I was 25. A month or so after, she appeared in the night sitting at the foot of my bed. I sat up and she told me everything was going to be all right. Then she disappeared and I never saw her again. Still gave me a comforting thought. Treasure your memories of your grandmother.
and she was not nominated for an Oscar for this film because in the same year she delivered another amazing performance in "Moulin Rouge" and the academy nominated her for the musical instead of this. I love both performances, she's amazing
I watched this movie near Halloween in my 5th grade class. I absolutely loved this movie, especially how the ending played out. A lot of kids screamed; I did not (I love horror). Anyway, it's definitely underrated. Here is another underrated movie that also happens to be my favorite childhood movie: Secondhand Lions. Don't worry. It's not a horror film. Lol.
One thing I love is how open-ended it is as far as what made Grace go crazy and kill her children and herself? Considering the area the house is in was occupied by the Germans in WWII and the three were living there during that time, maybe it was because of that? All we can do is speculate which I like.
She gone mad because she already known that her husband died in the war and she was left to take care of their 2 children with a difficult disease. Also add it up they are still in a war..
There used to be a young girl ghost in my house that my step-father was able to see. He had the right knowledge to let her move on. So she went to heaven.
It didn't really scare me the first time i saw it, but i still like it. So sorry about your grandmother. My late father came to me in a dream not long after he died. Haven't seen him since. He died back in 2007.
Life on earth is just a fantastic rest-stop, that is why if we look and think carefully, life on earth is just a short time even if we have lived 200 years on it.
Other awsome movies....... The Fisher King, Fried Green Tomatoes, Sling Blade, Fargo, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri, Dances with Wolves, The Last Samurai, Gladiator, Les Miserables, Pleasantville, Phantom of the Opera, Moonstruck........ you've already reacting to some of my favorites.
One of my favorite movies Watched it countless times Just found out her headaches are from the self infected gun shot wound and the children’s strange breathing was from the pillow suffocation’s
Children are generally open to accept spiritual occurrence. Especially in subconscious. Various types when I was a child. It can give closer to both of you.
Was watching you closely when the twist came, love seeing people as they realize who the ghosts really are. I know you get lots of suggestions but - Dead Calm, a1989 film with Nicole, Sam Neill (Jurassic Park] and Billy Zane (bad guy Cal from Titanic). An underrated but really solid thriller with three great lead actors.
This movie is a nice way to see the death imo, like you keep on living in your place, with the ones you love, and no matter who or what happens, you always will be there, living the life you had, being happy in some way. That’s better than some kind of paradise no one can tell is real.
I love this movie! This is the kind of horror film I like. I don't care for slashers and the gratuitous violence. I like films that fuck with your head and leave a lot unknown. When danger is implied, but the how when and where is unknown.
Scared at 1st then sad at what happened. One my favorites! Need react to Nicole Kidman in "The Invasion!" Very good movie too, costars Daniel Craig! Both good actors! Good reaction, ❤!
May I suggest some movies that are a few decades old but what I would consider "must see" Movies: Actor/Actresses: 'Ghost' -Patrick Swayze, Whoopi GoldBerg (Supernatual) and Demi Moore. " " ' 7th Sign' -Demi Moore. (Supernatural) 'Devils Advocate' -Charlize Theron, Keanu Reeves (Drama/Horror) and Al Pacino. " " 'Constantine' -Keanu Reeves, Rachael Weisz. (Horror) 'Young Guns' -Keifer Sutherland, Lou-Diamond Phillips, (Western/Drama) brothers Charlie Sheen & Emilio Estevez, " " Terence Stamp & 'The' Jack Palance. " " These are just some idea's of movie titles you mightn't have watched yet, if you have, sweet as, no problem.
Well, at least he's playing a Chopin waltz, not some somber piece like the d minor Bach chaconne nor the funeral march from the Ab sonata by Beethoven.
Anyone else count at least 19 ad spots possible on this video? Those little yellow spots shown when the video is paused? NINETEEN. Usually you get a double ad. Nah. Going to a separate site to watch.
Some other good horrors movie's MAMA Crimson peak Orphan Sinister Women in black Dragonfly Shutter What lies beneath The grudge the Japanese version Let the right one in the Swedish version Ginger snaps The taking of Debora Logan

The dad was not dead he just came back home after the war after his wife killed herself and the children that's why he was only there for a little while he moved in felt their presence and moved out!
I firmly believe he's dead. "Sometimes I bleed." That's why he was wandering around in that limbo-like fog a year after the war has ended. He'd been trying to find his way back to see his wife and children, and after that he either moved on or kept wandering in confusion. I think the daughter jolted him out of his confusion and he understood they were all dead. He's much more coherent after that conversation.
Odd part she took her migraines into afterlife. The kids sun allergy went away but she kept her migraine. Maybe it's the gunshot feeling when she shot herself
Watching her take pills for her migraine has a whole new angle to it when you realize how she died
Ok, that just blow my mind, not like her.
This is my favorite movie
Watched it countless times
Today I learned about her headaches and the children’s strange breathing 🤯
Wow ❤
"Shall I make us a nice cup of tea, ma'am?"
You wouldn't think this line would be so chilly, but it is when you know the context.

Yeah, she's always done great work throughout her career. For some reason people continue to overlook her talent. Maybe due to the "Hollywood marriage" overshadowing things for a while, or her classically attractive features. It's a head scratcher.
Nominated and she has also won an Oscar.
she has come a long way since bmx bandits
She deserved another one for this incredible performance ❤

Paranormal shit never happens to me. It's always pareidolia, every fucking time.
OMG the brunette woman at the end begging not to stay in the house... IT'S CATLYN STARK
Oh my god, I never noticed!!!!!!!!
And her husband is the father of Theon greyjoy😂
@@ss-ds2dn Holy shit, that I did NOT notice lol.
This movie was written, directed, and acted masterfully. The children always impressed the heck out of me.
Can you do one of these? Sixth sense, house on haunted hill, haunting (with Owen Wilson), what lies beneath? Those were my first horror movies to watch, and i still love them.😊
This is super weird and major cool at the same time. Great ending.
I LOVED your reaction to a horror movie. You made my day. I laughed my ass off when you were scared.
This movie has a tragic end in my opinion. The woman and her Kids are trapped forever inside of this house because she's too stubborn to properly move on. She can't let go, even in death.
You were talking about Nicole Kidman as if she were a beginner in her business,
When she has been one of the best actresses for decades in the world.
Yas boy ... YASSS ... your reaction was absolutly AMAZING!!
I suggest "What Dreams may Come" ( Robin Williams as you have NEVER seen him before - RIP) , and "The 6th sense"
Both of these!! Yes!!
Yes, those are both excellent!
This is the funniest reaction to this movie on youtube. Dude straight up flapped his hands at 17:25 🤣
What I love about this movie is that there's nothing actually scary in it.. LOL...Nicole Kidman is an A list actress. Been nominated 4 times for Oscars. Won once.
Try "What Dreams May Come" with Robin Williams. Beautiful movie!
i second this fantastic suggestion

If you haven't seen "The Sixth Sense". It's a must.
Please do a reaction to the film "1408" next. Just bring extra underwear, you'll need them.
Rod from Mansfield, Ohio
Yes! One of the best and underrated!
I read the short story as a kid and cried in fear. Saw the movie and literally slept in the theater. Maybe I need to rewatch it, it's been a while.
Speaking of signs....you should check out the movie Signs 😁
Thai movie is very good to rewatch; once you know the twist, the behaviour of Nicole and how she searched for curtains and threw everything around seems so fitting.
Modern horror movie masterpiece! Gore and blood is not horror, as my dear father used to say, mood and atmosphere really can make it. Never tired to rewatch this gem. Bravo!!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I love this movie. It's so underrated!
I have seen this movie a dozen times and it still gives me goosebumps.
I feel like I willed this reaction into existence and here it is. Did not disappoint, LOL.
This movie is brilliant! I had no idea they were also ghosts when I first watched it.
Nicole Kidman is a GREAT (Australian) actress 💚
Trust me, those on the other side of life are infinitely more alive than we are.
Movies 1408 and Case 39 are great movies. John Cusack and Samuel l Jackson are in 1408 and Bradley Cooper and Renee Zellweger are in case 39. Amazing movie kept me guessing the entire time , the climax is just perfect...

You WHAT?? 😆😅 Now seriously, glad you reacted to this one. One of the very few "horror" movies I like.
I loved your reaction. The others are one of my favorite movies, and one of the too 10 best twist endings I think.
There used to be a young girl ghost in my house that my step-father was able to see. He had the right knowledge to let her move on. So she went to heaven.
i died three years ago and i approve of this film.

I highly recommend Moulin Rouge for another stellar performance by Nicole Kidman! (And Ewan McGregor.) Loved this reaction!
Omg yes yes Moulin Rouge is amazing!!
*there's a compelling case to be made that the heart of many good horror stories - is tragedy. cheers.*
One of my favorite movies
Watched it countless times
Just found out her headaches are from the self infected gun shot wound and the children’s strange breathing was from the pillow suffocation’s
This was a great movie. I've watched it a few times now over the years.
When there’s no music it gets scarier! 😱😫😱
7:49 One of the absolute BEST 💯👏🏾🤩
Children are generally open to accept spiritual occurrence. Especially in subconscious. Various types when I was a child. It can give closer to both of you.
Okay, mentioning of Lydia being a mute and this guy is already struggling not freaking out... Oh, boy, this is gonna be good!
This film is a masterpiece.
"Far and Away" - Nichole Kidman's earlier movie (her breakout movie, I think) with Tom Cruise. Romantic adventure - you'll like it!
I saw this in the theater and it freaked me out!!! Definitely one of my favorite movies 🙂 Great Reaction😳
I vaguely remember watching this film on the TV once years ago. It scared me back then!
It's elevated horror and it's brilliant
You didn’t know Nicole was a great actress? My god the woman has won several awards and an Oscar, where have you been?
I believe you.
Was watching you closely when the twist came, love seeing people as they realize who the ghosts really are. One of the best stories of any horror film.
If you liked this you have to watch the Lovely Bones!!! Oh Please watch that one!!
I immediately cracked up once I saw this was the movie you watched 😅 Knew it was gonna scare you.
Oh my God i totally love this movie!!!

this is my no. 1 favorite horror movie, i watched this in the theater twice.
Nicole Kidman performance was phenomenal! ❤
I thought you were taking the piss at first, acting all scared even though nothing was happening in the film.

Well, at least he's playing a Chopin waltz, not some somber piece like the d minor Bach chaconne nor the funeral march from the Ab sonata by Beethoven.
A great ghost story

wow talk about over reacting
