Poor Sandra Bullock had a less than pleasant time making this movie. A quick video search of her tumbling around in the stationary filming harness, and it's easy to understand that it wasn't all a great experience. But very well worth it.
To answer the Oak: I left that theater feeling something deep and intrinsic and emotional shift inside me. It'd hard to explain, but it happens a lot when I see any movie that really moves me. Emotionally drained for sure, but also a certain lightness because for all its emotional strife, the movie ended on such an empowering and hopeful note.
Since you loved this... you must hit ANOTHER masterpiece from the same director: ... CHILDREN OF MEN. One of the greatest films you'll ever experience. A near-future dystopian tale that will stay with you long after this film ends. BRILLIANT.
I do not care what Neil Tyson said about this movie. She threw the fire extinguisher in the opposite direction of were she had to move and managed to grab the railing just barely. I am satisfied with that amount of realism.

I've always felt that THIS was the performance that should've won Sandra Bullock her Best Actress Oscar (not The Blind Side). She really carries 90% of the movie on her back, and the story requires her to go through the full gambit of human emotions - and she carries it all brilliantly.
I've always loved the idea of going out into space. This was the first movie that made me realize how terrifying it can be, especially on your own. Didn't help that I saw this in 3D! Best 3D experience even if it gave me so much anxiety.
The initial scene where she's spinning out of control was SO disorienting in 3D! One of the few movies I saw during the 3D heyday that was 100% worth it.
This movie also gave us one of Tina Fey's best jokes at the Golden Globes that year where she said: "GRAVITY...It's the story of how George Clooney would rather float away into space and die than spend one more minute with a woman his own age.” 🤣🤣🤣
Quinn you nailed it with the baby in the womb observation. That is what makes me like the movie so much. Cuarón tought of it as an abstraction of birth, exploring the fragility of life and the strenght of the human spirit. The ending in the water being the birth or rebirth of Ryan. It's amazing how a movie with basically a one person cast set in space , can have such a strong message about humankind.
And before that, untethered from the shuttle, they were spermatozoa trying to find the egg. A simple and beautiful metaphor for Ryan finding a rebirth after the trauma of losing her daughter.
Probably the best movie experience I’ve ever had ! I remember parts from the ship literally flying around us in the theater 👏🏽 haven’t seen a 3d film interact with their audience since then 😂
@@BaddMedicine Besides "Avatar", this was the best 3D-movie expirience i've ever saw in the cinema. The cool thing about it is: there were no "forced upon you"-3D scenes, like in many other 3D-movies. Where they show some scenes especially only to brag "Look! This is 3D!".
Ryan almost drowning in her capsule was based on a real incident during the Mercury program. When one of the capsules landed in the ocean, the hatch blew off earlier than it was supposed to and it started filling with water and sinking with astronaut Gus Grissom still harnessed inside. He escaped and survived, but was sadly later killed in the Apollo 1 fire.

I saw in the theater... I left mentally and physically exhausted... but in complete awe of what I witnessed. Absolutely brilliant. The Director, Alfonso Cuarón, is a cinematic genius. You MUST see another of his films: CHILDREN OF MEN .... it's a dystopian MASTERPIECE. You'll never forget it.
This is another one of those movies you absolutely need to see in the theatre. The visuals are stunning and the long periods of silence are deafening and terrifying.

A lot of people said the only thing that knocks this movie down is the cast. Not that they're bad, no, they're excellent, but this being such an immersive movie, having Bullock and Clooney, two on the most recognizable actors worldwide... A bit of a miscalculation in my humble opinion.
I remember seeing this film on the IMAX. What an amazing time! I remember how scared I was. I admit, I kept thinking some alien monster was going to pop out at some point, because of how tense I was feeling. Of course, there is no alien, the tension is realizing nobody can help you and you have no control of anything, as well as, space is infinite.
One of Sandy's most underrated movies! Definitely a favorite of mine, and that last song of the score that ends with her getting back to Earth and standing up is one of my favorite compositions of all time! Masterpiece.
One thing that's really cool about the sound design in this movie is that while the majority of stuff that happens in space is completely silent, you can actually hear the sound effects of the things that Ryan is touching. It's like they are simulating the vibrations of the impacts and it does a really good job at making you feel the weight of things.
I remember how impactful this was back in the movie theater. I left with my chest hurting from the anxiety and my arms as well from gripping on to the seat so dang long. It was great!
Cuaron mentioned it is about the rebirth after tragedy and how the instinct to survive can propel even the most alone people forward to a new phase. She had clearly given up on life and chose to go out in space to escape her grief. Her coming out of the water onto land is also a nod to evolution, but also a new beginning. Ryan crawling on the beach and taking her first "baby steps" on land was so moving. Please watch Children of Men if you haven't already!
Remember seeing this in IMAX, by the time it was done I was full of sweat from anxiety. What an experience this was on first watch. Memorable movie this.
After watching this in 3D at the cinema, I was drained, drenched in sweat and when I got up out of my seat, my legs were as SB's when she finally stood on the Earth. Loved the ending too - just cutting it off there.
I saw this IMAX 3D in a packed theater. Everybody on the way out looked absolutely exhausted, just as much as I actually was. Incredible experience and it was stuck in my head for weeks.
Great experience in Imax 3D. The 3D is pretty fantastic when done right...hopefully they don't give up on the medium altogether. As much as this was absolutely a special effects picture...also reminded me of the importance of solid acting to bring it all back down to earth (literally). Sandra Bullock nailed it. She's been great for a long time now. Definitely a movie star for a reason.
Saw it on IMAX and yeah, it was unreal. I wish they would bring this back to theaters on anniversaries because it's such an experience. It felt like a rollercoaster ride with emotional stakes.
I loved when an actual astronaut mentions how inaccurate it is... Clooney spotting her though vision blocked by of debris and several hundreds yards away in the beginning!
I saw this in IMAX , the level of how immersive and immediately Gravity grabs your anxieties… easily the quickest I felt IN a movie right with them and it never really lets up. I left IMAX stunned, worn out, exhilarated and wanting to go right back and spend $20 to catch what I might have missed the first time with the subtle setups, audio clues on the radio, feel Clooneys re entrance again knowing its a dream and watching others in the theater see that for their first time. Gravity is an excellent film!
Seeing 'Gravity' in the theater is one of the coolest cinema experiences I've had. The film is relentless in ramping up the tension, and it starts almost immediately. Being part of the audience in a packed theater where every single person was instantly sucked into the film and held there is unlike anything else I've experienced before or since.
I saw this in theaters and barely breathed the whole time. Love it so much! It's not so much just a movie, it is an EXPERIENCE. And Ryan's story being so personal, seeing character growth just isolated within this harrowing experience.
That BEAUTIFUL SHOT where she finally makes it inside and takes the space suit off…. She is floating in a relaxed fetal position, dead center of the window with soft lighting… man. The composition of that shot was brilliant. It was as if she was a single cell embryo. It could have the beginning of her new life. Amazing. I wish she would have won the Oscar. I was so tensed up, my legs were so heavy. Like her, I needed a quick second to be able to simply stand up. This was not a space movie, it was a drama film, pure and simple. It just took place in space.
23:41 - Tears don't fall in space, they literally form a ball on your eye or below your eye and restrict vision. If you were to cry with your space suit on during a walk, you would be literally blind until you got back inside to wipe them away.
I have seen this movie I can remember holding my breath dodging debris and the fake out with George Clooney was amazing he literally not being there gave her confidence to remember and to not give up! The first movie I can remember losing George Clooney.. I love the editing for this and the reaction from the guy's 💙 and as a mom who has only one child a daughter and that's all I'll ever have I can't have anymore I cried and sympathized with her..
I watched this in 3D IMAX originally and it was so immersive, especially with all the debris. Watched this many times since then and still pick up details I had missed. Feels so real as an experience of how reality would be in space. Good stuff!
I saw this in theaters and literally felt like I couldn't breathe for the entire film, but couldn't stop watching either. Great suspense and anxiety-building film-work.
This movie literally made me rethink about wanting to be an Astronaut... i was so serious about it too until i saw this movie and then as i saw everything happen it literally gave me shivers up my spine every once in a while... Imagining myself out there in the cold, dead, empty space... really scares the hell out of anyone👀
I could've confirmed that, Gravity in IMAX 3D is one-of-the-best movie experiences that I've ever had, HANDS-DOWN. Even after there are so many films that astonishingly good on IMAX screens, but Gravity in IMAX 3D, is still, and always gonna be top-tier movie experiences for me. I remembered myself leaving utterly speechless of how powerful, intense and brilliant it was.
My wife and I saw it in the theater. Deep breath. Emotional catharsis. It was a heavy, contemplative ride home with me answering a lot of questions about NASA etc.
There is so much photo-real CGI in this movie, it could be thought of as an animated feature. It took about 5 years to make, the effects work was crazy and they invented some new techniques. Watching this in 3D at the cinema was just magic.
I saw this in theaters and seeing it on the big screen with the dolby surround sound was an incredible experience. It was TERRIFYING!! I absolutely felt drained from at the end.
This is one of the best movies to make you feel like you're actually out there in space. I love that it's such a simple yet powerful story and it's shot beautifully. Did you notice it has barely any cuts in it? From a filmmakers perspective, that's even more impressive.
Honestly don't know Why more people haven't reacted to this movie. As Space movies go, this was terrifying. Oh, have you guys seen Apollo 18, the horror movie?.. it's pretty good too.
Because people just watch mainstream movies like Romance-Comedy, Superheroes, Animations, and Actions. Yikes. I hope they try other genres to broaden their cinema palette.
I saw this on a long flight, on the headrest screen in front of me. From the MOMENT it started to the very last frame, I was completely engrossed with zero awareness of my surroundings. That's rare for a movie on a plane.
I saw this twice in the theaters. One of the two was on a glorious IMAX screen (at the Challenger Theater in Tallahassee, Florida of all places). EDIT: I probably should say something about the movie... The movie is extremely simple and extremely awesome! This might be the most emotional space movie ever. From the 3rd crew member getting murked in the first 10 minutes, to Clooney sacrificing himself, to the Clooney fake-out return (ngl, I was fooled the first time), to all the near-death sequences with Sandra, this movie ROCKS!! BTW, this won Oscars for directing, cinematography, editing, sound design, and a couple others. And Sandra was nominated for Best Actress.
I have seen this one in cinemas and it was so special. Visually and emotionally mind blowing. Normally there is a certain amount of chatter in cinemas but with this movie there was absolute silence even in the scenes without any sound. When I left the cinema afterwards one scene stayed with me a bit, it was the very last scene when Sandra was back on earth, with her feet in the muddy ground, breathing the air, hearing the birds and sounds of nature in contrast to the silence of space …the appreciation for simply being alive on this beautiful planet is what stayed with me 🌍🌱
Saw this in IMAX when it first came out. I always tell people my anxiety was on 100 during the entire movie. I can’t think of another movie I’ve seen in theaters that had me that anxious the entire time. Oak would’ve sunk to the floor in theaters. 😂
32:13 The relief of being back to safety. Also, the shocking realisation that our heroine, a daughter, has just returned and hugs her mother, Earth. And sharing this mother also means sharing a very big family to live for.
I saw this in IMAX, and yeah. An incredible experience that I'll never forget. I left feeling inspired. I could apply the lead character's experience to my own life, as someone raised in serious poverty and abuse, fighting to get an education and get into grad school. There were a lot of obstacles and big losses that left me wanting to quit, but I didn't ever give up hope. Even when it was all I had. The story is inspiring and otherworldly in the best way. I highly recommend The Fountain by Darren Aronofsky, with Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz. It also has incredible visuals, unique story telling, and hits you right in the feels.
The fact that there's no sound in space makes this movie much more terrifying to me. Because you can hear the conversations, the beeping of alarms in the suit, heavy breathing, the character's heartbeat, and then you *see* these immense and catastrophic explosions happening all around you, but you can't *hear* it at all, even if it happens right next to you. It's such an eerie and off-putting fact about space that was implemented into the movie, and it made the suspense so much worse (in a good way!). Phenomenal movie with amazing actors, I'm glad you guys decided to check it out :)

Guys, if you EVER do a rewatch of this, check out the special features version that strips out the soundtrack. All you hear in this version is comms or anything that interacts with the astronauts suits, just like in space. It’s a whole new level of experience.
These guys must hear this a lot but I swear, they are right out of that old Saturday Night Live recurring skit with those Chicago guys sitting around a bar table drinking beers, talking about "Da Bearss" and Ditka and always pounding on their chest to resuscitate themselves while having a sudden heart attack and gagging on huge mouthfuls of bar food, etc. These guys are THOSE guys! Aren't they?!?!
Seeing this in 3D was a wild ride. I saw it like 4 or 5 times so I could make different people see it with me. In the opening scene, the audio started in at the very back of the theater and slowly crept its way around as the shuttle orbited into view.
I think that last landing scene was all about a human birth and what it takes to "LIVE", in the first moments of being separated from your Mother..., pushing out of the capsule, shedding what you needed for so long to survive with, and clawing your way to the world that you were made to live in.
In '65 a tech at Johnson Space Center passed out in 15 seconds when he had a hose issue in a vacume but rewoke 27 seconds later when his suit repressurized the only issue was he lost the ability to taste for 4 day. So its possible she would have survived when the escape pod was opened for such a short time. Especially when you take the fact that she was already in a low O2 environment for so long giving her body a chance to climatize to the low O2.
This was a movie to see on the big screen! And if you happen to still have a proper good 3D TV, with the glasses that you need to charge, this movie still looks balls-out phenomenal on the 3D Blu-ray; it holds up like you wouldn't believe.
Great stuff guys with another rare triple-5 score! I had forgotten Alfonso Cuaron directed the heavy hitters (Oldman, Rickman, Thewlis, and the rest) in Prisoner of Azkaban. Obviously, a heavy hitter director himself and really shows in this movie, Thanks for this reaction.
This movie is amazing. I was stressed out of my mind for most of it, and I watched it on IMAX. I was so dizzy by the end of the movie I had to crawl my way out of the theater 😅
I remember watching the live telecast of the Oscars 10 years ago. Gravity nearly swept every category it was nominated for at the 86th Academy Awards with 7 awards including Best Director, Best Cinematography and Best Visual Effects. The most awarded film of the Oscars 2014. Sandra Bullock was the highest paid actress of that year ($70M).
I had never seen a MOVIE before until I watched Gravity on IMAX 3D and I just didn’t know it. Winner of 7 Oscars, including Best Director. I love that score!
In one word -- ELEMENTAL! The cold void of space, the spontaneous fires coming out of nowhere, and her final escape from the other "alien" environment -- the watery depths of the ocean. Bullock's almost a new lifeform shooting in from the atmosphere to crawl up on the beach to take a stand for humanity's tenacity. Simple, visceral storytelling that's surprisingly (and pleasantly) talky, given the "man vs. Nature" backdrop. p.s. Always great seeing the Oak wriggle in his seat. Floating off into the subfrozen abyss of absolute zero ranks right up there with drowning in the middle of the Pacific.
I saw this movie in the theater. There were only a few people in the theater with us so we had our pick of seats. So we got the perfect seats right in the center of the theater. And it was in 3-D. So when we left, not only were we emotionally and spiritually drained, but we were dizzy also. 🤣 Great reactions!!! 💙💙💙

5m 25s in, and The Appleton Oak is already saying he's stressed. It's going to be a long film... I saw this at the cinema. When everyone left, they were literally clinging to the handrails for support, as they went down the stairs. Superb film.
Don't know if you noticed, as no one mentioned it, but the first 15 minutes is one long take. No camera cuts until Sandra Bullock cuts herself free of the spinning wreckage

every reactor always talks through the most amazing scene of the movie which is where she flying away from the station and it takes her 30 seconds to take a single breath. extraordinary acting and a wonderful moment of relative silence after all of the chaos in the minutes before it.
Watched this in 2013 with my family and it was real scary in the theater as we felt we were right there with them. There was dead silence from beginning to end. I held my husband’s hand to remind myself I was in a theater. Amazing and super entertaining. Love your honest reactions.
This movie is so moving. I love the themes of trauma killing your soul and finding a second reason to live. A second life within the only life we have ❤
Hey guys, just a fun fact: Alfonso Cuaron also directed "Prisoner of Azkaban", the third Harry Potter movie that changed the tone of the series to a darker more interesting mature theme. A lot of people's favorite and mine as well.
In 3D it was incredible. Watch behind the scenes, Sandra was on a platform that actually rotated her with LED screens around for the lighting. The underpinning story of fighting for the will to live, and to be reborn is all over this movie. The "in the womb" shot, the first steps on Earth etc. Soundtrack is also incredible, particularly the reentry and space station slowly coming apart as particles of atmosphere got more dense.
This blew me away in the cinema. Just a beautifully tense film and Sandra is absolutely on top form. Now that you've gone upward...check out Black Sea from 2014 for some intense underwater anxiety. Love you guys. Sending appreciation from the UK. 🥰

I remember seeing this film on the IMAX. What an amazing time! I remember how scared I was. I admit, I kept thinking some alien monster was going to pop out at some point, because of how tense I was feeling. Of course, there is no alien, the tension is realizing nobody can help you and you have no control of anything, as well as, space is infinite.
Seeing it on IMAX with theater quality sound was perfect
One of Sandy's most underrated movies! Definitely a favorite of mine, and that last song of the score that ends with her getting back to Earth and standing up is one of my favorite compositions of all time! Masterpiece.
All in all, I think this is the movie she should’ve won an Oscar for.
One thing that's really cool about the sound design in this movie is that while the majority of stuff that happens in space is completely silent, you can actually hear the sound effects of the things that Ryan is touching. It's like they are simulating the vibrations of the impacts and it does a really good job at making you feel the weight of things.
I remember how impactful this was back in the movie theater. I left with my chest hurting from the anxiety and my arms as well from gripping on to the seat so dang long. It was great!
Cuaron mentioned it is about the rebirth after tragedy and how the instinct to survive can propel even the most alone people forward to a new phase. She had clearly given up on life and chose to go out in space to escape her grief. Her coming out of the water onto land is also a nod to evolution, but also a new beginning. Ryan crawling on the beach and taking her first "baby steps" on land was so moving. Please watch Children of Men if you haven't already!
He also wanted to put attention to the immense problem of polution by space debris.There were two extremly dangerous incidents around the year 2009.
Remember seeing this in IMAX, by the time it was done I was full of sweat from anxiety. What an experience this was on first watch. Memorable movie this.
It was so unbelievably tense in cinemas, the best movie ever I watched in cinema in 3D by far. You felt like u were up there. It was mindblowing
IMAX 3D was beyond incredible
After watching this in 3D at the cinema, I was drained, drenched in sweat and when I got up out of my seat, my legs were as SB's when she finally stood on the Earth.
Loved the ending too - just cutting it off there.
I saw this IMAX 3D in a packed theater. Everybody on the way out looked absolutely exhausted, just as much as I actually was. Incredible experience and it was stuck in my head for weeks.
Great experience in Imax 3D. The 3D is pretty fantastic when done right...hopefully they don't give up on the medium altogether. As much as this was absolutely a special effects picture...also reminded me of the importance of solid acting to bring it all back down to earth (literally). Sandra Bullock nailed it. She's been great for a long time now. Definitely a movie star for a reason.
Saw it on IMAX and yeah, it was unreal. I wish they would bring this back to theaters on anniversaries because it's such an experience. It felt like a rollercoaster ride with emotional stakes.

I loved when an actual astronaut mentions how inaccurate it is... Clooney spotting her though vision blocked by of debris and several hundreds yards away in the beginning!
Went to the theaters. I felt like I could finally breathe after the movie ended. Alfonso Cuaron is such an amazing filmmaker.
I saw this in IMAX , the level of how immersive and immediately Gravity grabs your anxieties… easily the quickest I felt IN a movie right with them and it never really lets up.
I left IMAX stunned, worn out, exhilarated and wanting to go right back and spend $20 to catch what I might have missed the first time with the subtle setups, audio clues on the radio, feel Clooneys re entrance again knowing its a dream and watching others in the theater see that for their first time.
Gravity is an excellent film!
Seeing 'Gravity' in the theater is one of the coolest cinema experiences I've had. The film is relentless in ramping up the tension, and it starts almost immediately. Being part of the audience in a packed theater where every single person was instantly sucked into the film and held there is unlike anything else I've experienced before or since.
I saw this in theaters and barely breathed the whole time. Love it so much!
It's not so much just a movie, it is an EXPERIENCE. And Ryan's story being so personal, seeing character growth just isolated within this harrowing experience.
That BEAUTIFUL SHOT where she finally makes it inside and takes the space suit off…. She is floating in a relaxed fetal position, dead center of the window with soft lighting… man. The composition of that shot was brilliant. It was as if she was a single cell embryo. It could have the beginning of her new life. Amazing. I wish she would have won the Oscar. I was so tensed up, my legs were so heavy. Like her, I needed a quick second to be able to simply stand up. This was not a space movie, it was a drama film, pure and simple. It just took place in space.
I dont think I've ever seen Oak so gripped by a storyline 😂😂

This is one of the few movies that I ever went to see in 3D and it was fantastic. It's what 3D was made for.
23:41 - Tears don't fall in space, they literally form a ball on your eye or below your eye and restrict vision. If you were to cry with your space suit on during a walk, you would be literally blind until you got back inside to wipe them away.
I have seen this movie I can remember holding my breath dodging debris and the fake out with George Clooney was amazing he literally not being there gave her confidence to remember and to not give up! The first movie I can remember losing George Clooney.. I love the editing for this and the reaction from the guy's 💙 and as a mom who has only one child a daughter and that's all I'll ever have I can't have anymore I cried and sympathized with her..
I watched this in 3D IMAX originally and it was so immersive, especially with all the debris. Watched this many times since then and still pick up details I had missed. Feels so real as an experience of how reality would be in space. Good stuff!
Saw this in theaters. Walked in wanting to be an astronaut. Left the theater vowing to never leave the safety of our atmosphere. Such an intense film.
I saw this in theaters and literally felt like I couldn't breathe for the entire film, but couldn't stop watching either. Great suspense and anxiety-building film-work.
This movie literally made me rethink about wanting to be an Astronaut... i was so serious about it too until i saw this movie and then as i saw everything happen it literally gave me shivers up my spine every once in a while... Imagining myself out there in the cold, dead, empty space... really scares the hell out of anyone👀

This is such a master piece and the movie Sandra Bullock deserved an Oscar for.
I could've confirmed that, Gravity in IMAX 3D is one-of-the-best movie experiences that I've ever had, HANDS-DOWN.
Even after there are so many films that astonishingly good on IMAX screens, but Gravity in IMAX 3D, is still, and always gonna be top-tier movie experiences for me.
I remembered myself leaving utterly speechless of how powerful, intense and brilliant it was.
Also best 4dx experience for me.
My wife and I saw it in the theater. Deep breath. Emotional catharsis. It was a heavy, contemplative ride home with me answering a lot of questions about NASA etc.
There is so much photo-real CGI in this movie, it could be thought of as an animated feature. It took about 5 years to make, the effects work was crazy and they invented some new techniques. Watching this in 3D at the cinema was just magic.
Saw this in the theaters with friends, I recall us being silent and exhausted because you're so tense the entire time!
I saw this in theaters and seeing it on the big screen with the dolby surround sound was an incredible experience. It was TERRIFYING!! I absolutely felt drained from at the end.

I love that it's such a simple yet powerful story and it's shot beautifully. Did you notice it has barely any cuts in it? From a filmmakers perspective, that's even more impressive.

I saw this on a long flight, on the headrest screen in front of me. From the MOMENT it started to the very last frame, I was completely engrossed with zero awareness of my surroundings. That's rare for a movie on a plane.
I saw this twice in the theaters. One of the two was on a glorious IMAX screen (at the Challenger Theater in Tallahassee, Florida of all places).

The movie is extremely simple and extremely awesome! This might be the most emotional space movie ever. From the 3rd crew member getting murked in the first 10 minutes, to Clooney sacrificing himself, to the Clooney fake-out return (ngl, I was fooled the first time), to all the near-death sequences with Sandra, this movie ROCKS!!
BTW, this won Oscars for directing, cinematography, editing, sound design, and a couple others. And Sandra was nominated for Best Actress.

This is one of my all time favorite movies! It deserved all the Academy Awards that it won!
I have seen this one in cinemas and it was so special. Visually and emotionally mind blowing. Normally there is a certain amount of chatter in cinemas but with this movie there was absolute silence even in the scenes without any sound. When I left the cinema afterwards one scene stayed with me a bit, it was the very last scene when Sandra was back on earth, with her feet in the muddy ground, breathing the air, hearing the birds and sounds of nature in contrast to the silence of space …the appreciation for simply being alive on this beautiful planet is what stayed with me 🌍🌱
When I first saw this film, I thought the entire film was a metaphor for her grief at the loss of her child: she was never in space.
There are no words for this experience when it was in the theaters on IMAX. Absolutely blown away by this visual masterpiece!
Saw this in IMAX when it first came out. I always tell people my anxiety was on 100 during the entire movie. I can’t think of another movie I’ve seen in theaters that had me that anxious the entire time. Oak would’ve sunk to the floor in theaters. 😂
32:13 The relief of being back to safety. Also, the shocking realisation that our heroine, a daughter, has just returned and hugs her mother, Earth. And sharing this mother also means sharing a very big family to live for.
One of my all time favorite movies. As well as a most favorite theater experience.
I saw this in IMAX, and yeah. An incredible experience that I'll never forget. I left feeling inspired. I could apply the lead character's experience to my own life, as someone raised in serious poverty and abuse, fighting to get an education and get into grad school. There were a lot of obstacles and big losses that left me wanting to quit, but I didn't ever give up hope. Even when it was all I had. The story is inspiring and otherworldly in the best way. I highly recommend The Fountain by Darren Aronofsky, with Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz. It also has incredible visuals, unique story telling, and hits you right in the feels.
This movie still gets me in my feelings. My daughter happened to be 4 when this came out and it hit hard.
The fact that there's no sound in space makes this movie much more terrifying to me. Because you can hear the conversations, the beeping of alarms in the suit, heavy breathing, the character's heartbeat, and then you *see* these immense and catastrophic explosions happening all around you, but you can't *hear* it at all, even if it happens right next to you. It's such an eerie and off-putting fact about space that was implemented into the movie, and it made the suspense so much worse (in a good way!).

I still remember watching "Gravity" in the theater and I was blown away.
Guys, if you EVER do a rewatch of this, check out the special features version that strips out the soundtrack. All you hear in this version is comms or anything that interacts with the astronauts suits, just like in space. It’s a whole new level of experience.
These guys must hear this a lot but I swear, they are right out of that old Saturday Night Live recurring skit with those Chicago guys sitting around a bar table drinking beers, talking about "Da Bearss" and Ditka and always pounding on their chest to resuscitate themselves while having a sudden heart attack and gagging on huge mouthfuls of bar food, etc. These guys are THOSE guys! Aren't they?!?!
Seeing this in 3D was a wild ride. I saw it like 4 or 5 times so I could make different people see it with me. In the opening scene, the audio started in at the very back of the theater and slowly crept its way around as the shuttle orbited into view.
I think that last landing scene was all about a human birth and what it takes to "LIVE", in the first moments of being separated from your Mother..., pushing out of the capsule, shedding what you needed for so long to survive with, and clawing your way to the world that you were made to live in.
In '65 a tech at Johnson Space Center passed out in 15 seconds when he had a hose issue in a vacume but rewoke 27 seconds later when his suit repressurized the only issue was he lost the ability to taste for 4 day. So its possible she would have survived when the escape pod was opened for such a short time. Especially when you take the fact that she was already in a low O2 environment for so long giving her body a chance to climatize to the low O2.
This was a movie to see on the big screen! And if you happen to still have a proper good 3D TV, with the glasses that you need to charge, this movie still looks balls-out phenomenal on the 3D Blu-ray; it holds up like you wouldn't believe.
Great stuff guys with another rare triple-5 score! I had forgotten Alfonso Cuaron directed the heavy hitters (Oldman, Rickman, Thewlis, and the rest) in Prisoner of Azkaban. Obviously, a heavy hitter director himself and really shows in this movie, Thanks for this reaction.

I remember watching the live telecast of the Oscars 10 years ago. Gravity nearly swept every category it was nominated for at the 86th Academy Awards with 7 awards including Best Director, Best Cinematography and Best Visual Effects. The most awarded film of the Oscars 2014. Sandra Bullock was the highest paid actress of that year ($70M).

I had never seen a MOVIE before until I watched Gravity on IMAX 3D and I just didn’t know it. Winner of 7 Oscars, including Best Director.

In one word -- ELEMENTAL! The cold void of space, the spontaneous fires coming out of nowhere, and her final escape from the other "alien" environment -- the watery depths of the ocean.
Bullock's almost a new lifeform shooting in from the atmosphere to crawl up on the beach to take a stand for humanity's tenacity.
Simple, visceral storytelling that's surprisingly (and pleasantly) talky, given the "man vs. Nature" backdrop.
p.s. Always great seeing the Oak wriggle in his seat. Floating off into the subfrozen abyss of absolute zero ranks right up there with drowning in the middle of the Pacific.
watched this on my 3d tv and damn was it immersive....the sound alone is fascinating
I saw this movie in the theater. There were only a few people in the theater with us so we had our pick of seats. So we got the perfect seats right in the center of the theater. And it was in 3-D. So when we left, not only were we emotionally and spiritually drained, but we were dizzy also. 🤣 Great reactions!!! 💙💙💙

5m 25s in, and The Appleton Oak is already saying he's stressed. It's going to be a long film... I saw this at the cinema. When everyone left, they were literally clinging to the handrails for support, as they went down the stairs. Superb film.

every reactor always talks through the most amazing scene of the movie which is where she flying away from the station and it takes her 30 seconds to take a single breath. extraordinary acting and a wonderful moment of relative silence after all of the chaos in the minutes before it.

Watched this in 2013 with my family and it was real scary in the theater as we felt we were right there with them. There was dead silence from beginning to end. I held my husband’s hand to remind myself I was in a theater. Amazing and super entertaining. Love your honest reactions.
This movie is so moving. I love the themes of trauma killing your soul and finding a second reason to live. A second life within the only life we have ❤
Hey guys, just a fun fact: Alfonso Cuaron also directed "Prisoner of Azkaban", the third Harry Potter movie that changed the tone of the series to a darker more interesting mature theme. A lot of people's favorite and mine as well.
In 3D it was incredible. Watch behind the scenes, Sandra was on a platform that actually rotated her with LED screens around for the lighting.
The underpinning story of fighting for the will to live, and to be reborn is all over this movie. The "in the womb" shot, the first steps on Earth etc. Soundtrack is also incredible, particularly the reentry and space station slowly coming apart as particles of atmosphere got more dense.
saw this one in IMAX. I kid you not, I collapsed onto the floor of the theater lobby and just had to focus on the ground for a few minutes as we left.
I saw Gravity in 3D, its was icredible, totally wild, I ducked a few times as the debris was flying in. One of my all time favourtie movies.
This and A Quiet Place, the 2 movies I regretted getting popcorn at. Forced myself to put it aside as soon as I recognized the sound design choices.
