My daughter's studio apt in Baltimore is $1050. It's expensive here. If your set on staying in Baltimore my advice is to move just outside the city limits in a nearby county. Cost of living will be about the same, but you will have better access to things and more entertainment options. I would also suggest looking for work near or in the county you choose to live in or move to. As far as stores, I grocery shop at several places to save money. I suggest, Walmart, Aldi, and Costco or Sam's Club. Don't forget the options of working and entertaining yourself in DC which is, only about 30 mins away provided traffic is not baced up. If driving in DC is not an option, many people in Baltimore take the MARC trains, which travels between DC and Baltimore fairly quickly. Many people will live in Baltimore and work and play in DC because the cost of living there is higher. In addition, there is also options to move to other parts of Maryland. There are other cities close to DC in PG County, Ann Arundel, and Howard County, all of which is just outside of Baltimore City. Best wishes in figuring things out.

If you think that rent is high, Tampa is much higher. Rent for a decent one-bedroom will be like 1800 plus utilities. Just left Tampa last year after 13 years..living in Pearland(Houston). I don’t hate it, but it’s not enough for me stay either. I lived in Atlanta for years and then moved to Owings Mills (Bmore) and it was a culture shock even though I’m from NJ..I don’t like the people there and the infrastructure, aesthetically. I might be moving back to Tampa because it’s more simplistic living and having grown up on the Jersey Shore, I miss the beaches. The problem with Tampa is dating, housing affordability (renting and buying), and well-paying jobs. I happen to be in banking so my pay was competitive, but most jobs don’t support the high rent there. It’s too busy here in Houston and the gloomy weather gets to me. I thought I wanted to be around more black people again but it’s too many here in Houston…it reminds me of Bmore in that respect. Too much driving as well and the roads are horrible. I miss 275, 75, and even I4 lol. Out of all the cities I’ve lived in throughout the years, Baltimore is the one I regretted the most. Went back to ATL after one year. I visited MD/DC earlier this year and I see some stuff changed, but the vibe is still the same..plus I hate winter now. It was cool to be able to drive to NJ when I wanted to though. I’m older though so my perspective is a little different. There is no perfect place and it’s okay to try new places and I commend you. No matter where you settle down, your perspective on life will be so much richer for the experience of living in different places. Be blessed.
