Good observation and even better that you were able to implement what you learned. Well done! Thanks for sharing.

I started listening to Rutherford doing a weekend run from NJ out to the Mr Fuel in Youngstown OH where I would swap trailers with a guy coming from Chicago. 2000 Western Star 4900 with an N14 at 525 with a 13 speed and 3:55 rears . Proper large car and she could boogie. KR starts talking about the Swift truck he bought and speed etc and next thing you know I’m rolling across the Keystone pulling a reefer at 56 mph trying to break 6 mpg. I got Rooster Cruisers going by asking me if I am alright. We were over 90K most Saturday nights and when I would do a full turn from Bordentown to Chicago and back I would get her up to 6.7 mpg . Of course we had coloring books back then so a cat nap was all you needed and I would do my regular job running heavy equipment on Monday in NYC. I was hooked on the fuel mileage game then and it’s one habit I don’t want to kick. Great info JP and keep up the story time videos as I’m sure you have a lot of knowledge to impart.

@flyingpaddy7525 That starcar sounds like a great truck. Those red top Cummins were great engines. I would love to drive a big hood truck again just to see what kind of MPG I could get out of it. The last big truck I drove was a 2002 379 with a 6NZ. It always was around 5.2 mpg, which was back in 2009, so it's been a while. It's crazy how much money can be saved by just slowing down, not only in fuel cost but also in maintenance cost. Thanks for watching and commenting!

@ Hurshel who you hear on with KR sold his Volvo and went to a day cab pre emissions Star Car. Loves it . I would love a flat glass W9 myself with a Cat and aero plane gears but when I run around PA pulling heavy and my mpg drops to 8 I start having panic attacks so running a hood into the wind with 30 psi of boost I would probably end up in a rubber walled room.

@flyingpaddy7525 I just heard on the radio that he sold his Volvo. Do you know him personally? I wish on the Friday show Henry would brag on his Freightliner like Joel does on his Volvo. Henry is getting great mpg running at high speed and hauling heavy weight.

@ no never met Hurshel just interact with him on Rutherfords pay site The Trucking Tribe. Henry did a great segment about a year ago now on how to get the best out of the Cascadia like you have. I’ll go back on the shows and try and find which one it was . Henry has some great knowledge and attitude. Joel is great to but when it comes to geopolitics he is chugging on the Kool Aid. I like the Volvos myself but the service sucks and a lot of proprietary tools etc needed. These old Shakers are easy enough to work on and parts relatively cheap.

I've talked to Henry a couple of times and seams like a really down to earth guy. That's why I don't want a Volvo. The parts availability is not there. Are you going to the truck show in Louisville this year?

I’m glad you’re doing OK JP. I would love to hear what aerodynamic modifications you’ve done, Specific things you’ve done to improve MPG, what MPG you’re getting, cost per mile, any other details you can give us. also, it would be kind of cool to hear your tips and tricks on minimizing costs. I’ve been working on improving my miles per gallon as well. The biggest thing life has taught me is it’s not how much money you make, it’s about how much money you save.

That's not a problem, I can talk and talk about that kind of stuff, haha! Everything you save goes right in the pocket. Thanks for watching!
