a well written series with outstanding actors and actresses. the guy who played young nucky was spot on. facial expressions,mannerisims speech and above all an outstanding performance.
It's not that well written. It's sanitized in typical hollywood fashion. Life was way more rugged in the 1920s even for the wealthy. Nobody is missing any teeth and even the women with 5 children are thin with B cups. Some of the dialogue is very dry.
Yeah, he had done some questionable things up to this point, but this was the moment that he pretty much sold his soul and there would be no happy ending for him. He would have some moments of happiness, but nothing lasting. It was a kind of divine punishment on him where he was teased with some of what he had wanted in life, but he always managed to mess it up through his actions, current or past.
Nucky may have brought Gillian to the Commodore knowing what would happen, but after Jimmy was born he was the one who took care of him, raised him like his own son, got him into Princeton and paid the tuition, took care of his girlfriend and kid while he was in France and later in Chicago, gave him the high-paying job he originally asked for as his enforcer, and got him off a quintuple murder. His own father didn't even acknowledge his existence until he thought he could manipulate him into backstabbing Nucky. The whole Tommy Darmody storyline in Season 5 was so ridiculously far-fetched. Tommy was conceived after the US declared war on Germany in 1917, so he had to have been born in 1918, making him 12-13 in 1931, but even though it was the middle of the Great Depression and he was barely a teenager, he supposedly travelled a thousand miles from Wisconsin to Atlantic City to avenge a woman he didn't even like and hadn't seen for more than 2 minutes in 8 years. Having Tommy kill Nucky was such a shitty and nonsensical ending to the series.

Tommy supposedly travelled a thousand miles from Wisconsin to Atlantic City to avenge a woman he didn't even like, hadn't spoken to in 7 years, and hadn't spent any real time with for 8 years. Then the kid somehow found Nucky's warehouse, convinced Mickey to hire him to load trucks as a way to get close to Nucky even though he had no idea who he was, and rather than kill him when he found him shitfaced after getting robbed, he almost gets arrested himself for trying to rob a woman yet still has a gun on him after Nucky got him out of trouble and told him he was getting revenge for Gillian even though he had no clue what the history between Nucky and Gillian was.
When Nucky kills Jimmy and says he “wasn’t seeking forgiveness”, that was a lie. That’s ALL he was doing and Jimmy was the outcome of that. That’s why he put up with so much shit from Jimmys mom, to assuage his own guilt from this wholly irredeemable act.
This is why this show is great, the last scene ends with the moment we waited for and nucky deserved. Jimmy was always gonna get revenge, even if it took another generation
revenge? Nucky gave Jimmy everything he needed. Jimmy might be avenging his mother, but he had nothing to complain. He got greedy and got caught in the "Game of thrones"
That was not just revenge for Jimmy. That was revenge for the entire Darmody family. Nucky doomed that entire family from the start and he's been badly trying to make amends since.

Buscemi is trying to get Tony to go into the house and Tony sees a shadow like figure with demon ears, and decides not to go in. Nucky on the other hand goes into the house and sees what he sees and sells his soul.
Nucky takes over for Sheriff Lindsay after he’s had enough working for the commodore. This is when Nucky finds out about the commodore and who he really is. This shows us the two types of monster, as well: the Commodore, who we can safely say is just an evil predator and was probably born that way; and Nucky, who became a monster one little despicable act at a time, the acts compounding in the end. Interesting question, is Nucky as bad doing the delivery as the Commodore doing the buying and the using? As the mother and father doing the selling? Or as Leander making the arrangements and keeping up with supply? Is Mr Lindsay less guilty for walking away after doing it for years and years?
Maybe I interpreted it wrong, but I got the idea that the parents hadn't pimped the girl out for sexual favors or maybe even knew she was with the Commodore, but he had her picked up and brought to him (much like Gillian years later), did his thing with her, and the envelope was to buy off the parents and for Nucky to make them understand that if the family pursued the matter further it would be unfortunate for them.
Most people like to say they wouldn't do this for the Commodore, so they could have all that Nucky had, but they would. People are selfish and greedy at their core. That's why so many people liked Nuckys character, and so many envied all that he had in the show.

Deep inside my heart is good. No way I would do what Nucky or Commodore did to these young children in this series. This is pure evil. Does anyone remember the scene where Nucky was even younger, and he seen that older woman dead? Like she was young, but not as young as these poor innocent girls were. I think she was about 19 to 21 at oldest, but I didn't really get that scene can someone explain to me their theory on what exactly happened there? My theory is the commodore was also a serial killer, but he mostly murdered older women because he couldn't silence them with money. I think it was a moment where the Commodore realized he didn't deserve any respect. Sure, he would demand it all the same, but seeing people grovel at the feet of a pedophile who hurt a little girl would be repulsive, even for said pedophile.

There's a scene in the last episode of the first season where Margaret comes to his hotel on Halloween right before he's about to leave for a party and he tells her the story of how he just became treasurer, his wife was caring for a child who had been dead for days, and she slipped into a depression that doctors told him would go away over time, but that she slit her wrists with his razor a week later.
Everyone is mad at Nucky but what did he really do here? What was he supposed to do? All he did was bring the girl home to her family, he didn't know what was going on previously, he didn't do anything to the girl. Technically he didn't have any proof either.
Yeah but he knew about it later on he became suspicious of commodore attention towards underaged girls he literally was hesitant to give up Gillian but he did what he had to do in the end he died alone.
It is never explained who the girl is. It is not Gillian though. It is either some local girl or some tourists daughter that the Commodore lured or whose parents though his interest in their daughter was philanthropic based on his public persona, and they didn't realize his true intent. That was a time where you wouldn't think a town father, priest, or cop was capable of such things and you may have never even heard of such a crime as proper people didn't discuss it.

Maybe I interpreted it wrong, but I got the idea that the parents hadn't pimped the girl out for sexual favors or maybe even knew she was with the Commodore, but he had her picked up and brought to him (much like Gillian years later), did his thing with her, and the envelope was to buy off the parents and for Nucky to make them understand that if the family pursued the matter further it would be unfortunate for them.

Most people like to say they wouldn't do this for the Commodore, so they could have all that Nucky had, but they would. People are selfish and greedy at their core. That's why so many people liked Nuckys character, and so many envied all that he had in the show.
Finally, someone smart enough to know the wickedness of this world. I’d say 7/10 would do so.

Does anyone remember the scene where Nucky was even younger, and he seen that older woman dead? Like she was young, but not as young as these poor innocent girls were. I think she was about 19 to 21 at oldest, but I didn't really get that scene can someone explain to me their theory on what exactly happened there? My theory is the commodore was also a serial killer, but he mostly murdered older women because he couldn't silence them with money. Also because of the time line how it said 1897 we know he was doing these crimes in the late 19th century just like Jack The Ripper, and H.H Holmes, so yea it isn't very far fetched, for me to speculate that the commodore might have been a serial killer, but I was wondering what someone else's opinion would be.

I think it was a moment where the Commodore realized he didn't deserve any respect. Sure, he would demand it all the same, but seeing people grovel at the feet of a pedophile who hurt a little girl would be repulsive, even for said pedophile.

Everyone is mad at Nucky but what did he really do here? What was he supposed to do? All he did was bring the girl home to her family, he didn't know what was going on previously, he didn't do anything to the girl. Technically he didn't have any proof either.

It is never explained who the girl is. It is not Gillian though. It is either some local girl or some tourists daughter that the Commodore lured or whose parents though his interest in their daughter was philanthropic based on his public persona, and they didn't realize his true intent. That was a time where you wouldn't think a town father, priest, or cop was capable of such things and you may have never even heard of such a crime as proper people didn't discuss it.
