- Many Jehovah's Witnesses in Norway was telling the truth in court, but they might still lose their government funding.
The Norwegian governernment cant be coresponsible for human right violations committed by the governing body of the Watchtower religion. The current court case is to determin if Jehovah's Witnesses violate human rights of their members, and those that want to leave the religion without losing their family.

I attended 5 days of the hearings. Unfortunately, I have the impression that JWs were able to victimize themselves quite well. Not least by lying and constantly repeating that contact with disfellowshipped is a matter of one’s own conscience. But also by invoking several decisions at the European level, despite the facts in those being different. The state did a good job, but not a perfect one. They missed some counter arguments in crucial moments. And with JW you can’t do that, they have too much experience in courts. The total cost of the JWs lawyers was 4.300.000 Norwegian kroner, a crazy amount. Their lawyers spent 1000 kroner in this case, the state only 500.

@@marcelocampbell1679 but why? that want money not justice. no one is persecuting them. And like most people everyone has opinion. Apostates can be in his or her own feeling about the org. Rather they believe in Jehovah organization is subjective, but no one that i know not physically harming ones are bethel or other witnesses. A lot of woke jw can see b.s. that society does in sense some stuff gets cover up or brush to the side like sexual assaults cases. Society doesn't have sympathy or mental capacity to handle cases well but they push people out on basis of not realizing some do have disorders and been legitmately abuse.

@@moiobra4478 at some point the judge asked whether de-registration and defunding could be seen as a stigmatization of JWs. Here the state failed to mention that religions such as the Mormons do not receive state funding and are not for that reason stigmatized in Norway. He also asked whether it could be seen as a form of punishment. Here the state failed to make a clear distinction between punishing for a criminal offense and simply verifying whether JWs comply with the rules established in the new Act on Religious Associations to remain registered and receive state funding. Since their response a the moment were not to the point, the sensation left was that it was a form of stigmatization and of punishment, thus of of persecution. At least that was my impression.

To encourage, coerce people not to talk to, to ignore certain others, by fear of being punished themselves may be considered hate speach.
Hate speech is speech that incites to discrimination and violence. The Spanish court recently acknowledged that mandated shunning is psychologically abusive and the Norwegian government described it as psychological violence. We know violence isn't necessary caused by physical attacks. The psychological hits and kicks of mandated shunning are at least as damaging as they go on indefinitely and are largely invisible to the outside world, who, for the most part, remains unsympathetic.

Raymond Franz, a Governing body member, is a classic example of the consequences of associating / talking to or with with DfD people.

Hello from the UK, I am a former mentally trapped JW, saw the light 6 years ago after a second go at it ( I left at 16 returned at 30), now Im 49 with my wife who is what some would call a PIMO. We both have been shunned/Dist, when I was dist my brother was a good boy and listened to the BS and ignored me if we passed each other at my parents, but my parents and my sister still kept in touch and I was still welcome at there houses.This is until a Elder visited my sister to tel her that she should not be welcoming me into her home, she followed the order. My parents on the other had, mainly my Dad said if you wish to visit you can when ever you like the door is open, but my Mum said "your dad is the head of the house and what he says goes" so I took this as my mothers way of making peace in her own thoughts to see me, because on one had she is told off the platform to shun but my Dad says NO! . So in a nut shell the Jehovahs Witnesses are told to Shun anyone that goes against the rules made up from the Governing body.
So all you did was fading peacefully right?
@@hanneivanovic2465 Yes, the final straw was when I was told my 2hrs a month was not enough and that is the reason I could not do car park duty at the assembly ( I did that because I hated the BS coming off the platform and was a good way to get away) so I just said ok no problem, they said is that it no questions, and again just replied with a no its ok no problem and that I was surprised it took them this long to say anything. Then on way to the car I told the wife that is it no more am I going to waste my time in this cult am done. Since then I have been to the odd assembly for half a day more for my interest in seeing if the same old BS is being pumped and the cash cow that the assembly is and true to form yes it is.

No, of course, it is not because I no longer adhere to group thinking that the group will ostracize me. This practice is only found in movements that control the adherents

My mother is 87 and is still JW. She still talks to me comes over for meals and family time. I was labeled as a hostile apostate by local JWs but she chose family over brothers .when she needs to be rushed into the hospital at night were is the brothers .I see her change her mind because of the way the .watch tower and JW brothers act.
You don't have to disfellowshipped to be shunned. Like in my case due to gossiping judgemental Congregation I grew up in gossiping elder's wife I had been shunned since I was 9 yrs old even early as 7 yrs old. Our PO made sure to go as far as telling my biological brother not to invite me to his wedding to hide it from me while I was still active. Ultimately he lied to me when he apparently had married and moved out of state to be with his bride but called me to ask for help from me and told me he moved then lied to me why he moved saying he moved for a job, he went as far lie to me even as far pretended to still live with his ex roommate after begging me for my TV, after sell he completely lied to keep me in the dark about his marriage

It is not just about children being able to vote in the future. More important is that children should have the right to continue to see siblings, cousins, parents, and grandparents instead of being suddenly unfairly isolated when a relative leaves the Witness organization.
Norway, like many others, have clarified and tightened up on coercive behaviours over the last few years.
Being accused of contr0ll!ng or coercive behaviour on an individual level is very serious. It's not only legally understood as an emotionally distressing incident for all concerned to go through, but if found guilty of an offence, it can lead to imprisonment.
This should follow through with organisations, particularly those attempting to have special tax privileges, that ultimately in turn affect everyone in that country, including every other tax payer.
Watchtower is responsible for coercion of its members, that is irrefutable, in the instances of disfellowshipping and disassociation, Hospital Liaison Committees, and many other member management processes.
They should be held to task. If not, what message does that send out to other organisations?
I hope the courts do the right thing.
Ultimately, the one thing they’re concerned about is the bottom line, money.
I do hope the Court is in possession of the elders’ book.
Though we all know that the courts won’t be privy to the extent of the personal damages done by Watchtower over the years.

Shunning is legal here in the US....I think it's horrible!
Shunning is also legal in Norway, but the criteria for receiving government grants, which this case is all about, then the Watchtower has status as a religion only if they provide their members the freedom to enter and leave the Watchtower as they please, without enforcing on their members any additional penalties or coercions like shunning and social control tactics. It is PEOPLE in Norway that have freedom of religion and freedom of assembly. The state of Norway does not grant organisations like the Watchtower freedom of religion.

There are many studies now that show that DNA can be turned off and on by emotions. The emotional devastation caused by shunning has NOT been studied to any extent but it needs to be. Mere words fail to convey the utter anguish this harmful practice puts people through. I hope they lose but they are pretty slimy.

If JWs believe they have absolutely truth, JWs need to get up in court and brag/support policies/shunning etc. In their minds JWs are giv9ng this valuable witness for all to the “truth” and just rush into the org.

When I used to be a JW in North Carolina, one sister was disfelloshiped because she committed formication with a nice guy who married her and got baptized! Well during her disfelloshiped time I sent greetings to her through her son, a 10 years old kid! He responded to me saying these: Sister Lugo you can’t have any communication with my mother and if you do it again, I will have to tell the elder! Can you believe that way of talking from a 10 years old kid? I couldn’t believe it, but that kid was born in the cult and was already indoctrinated! Sad but that is what they do to the kids!

O maior problema ,na minha opinião, é que o corpo governante exige que o desassociado/dissociado peça readmissão, para que possa recuperar os laços familiares (com seus parentes que são testemunhas de Jeová).
Essa exigência (de voltar a ser testemunha de Jeová) é a maior demonstração de intolerância religiosa, porque o corpo governante quer fazer com que quem saiu da torre, volte para lá .
Não existe uma alternativa, como por exemplo a passagem de vários anos longe do salão ou talvez anulação do batismo.
Não pude ter convivência normal com minha mãe enquanto ela era viva.
Não pude participar da festa do casamento do meu filho e ele não é livre nem para me fazer um telefonema.
Minha família jw é refém de um " sequestro religioso" e está sendo utilizada como moeda de troca. Enquanto eu não voltar para as tais "fileiras JW", não posso usufruir de um simples telefonema do meu filho.
O corpo governante das testemunhas de Jeová, arranjou uma maneira silenciosa de impor uma "religião".
Em outras palavras : o desassociado/dissociado deve voltar a ser testemunha de Jeová ou viver ostracizado.

Hi. Ive been studying with Jehovahs Witnesses. Ive never been encouraged to shun anyone. Can you really preach if you reject anyone? Ive myself tried to control my unhelpful behaiviours, and yes i tried to be Zealous for my religion, to my greatest regrets. But in my uncorrect ways, which were drugs, no self control, no understanding of the world, constantly searching for answers absolutely everywhere. Im glad my study partner , whose been my friend for the past 17 years, approached me. Because when i got sick of the worlds anything goes reality( as long as its the law) i did start studying the bible. But i had already read the bible before i joined meetings.
Life has told me no one has all the answers. How every belief, religion and culture is partly fighting one another( those who are zealous enough) i realised that its not about religion , culture, and belief. Its about doing good, or doing bad.
These days im friends with people of all walks of life. Culturally, belief wise im friends with people i used to "shun" . Why , because they didnt reject me, when i didnt reject them. Ive helped people of other cultures and beliefs, and ive been helped by people of other cultures and beliefs.
When you realise that the bible says, " do not look down on your brothers and sisters(people you used to assosiate with) because you were taken from amoungst them"
Even in the Bible it says not all calling me lord , lord will be saved, but the one doing the will of my father will.
The Bible is beyond any containment.
In the end it will be : did you do good or bad. Not did you believe or not believe. It will really be your actions talking on your behalf and nothing else.
And nothing but the Bible taught me this. Not that no one else knows the values expressed in the Bible, because otherwise how could i find common ground with peoples of other beliefs and cultures.
Right now the world really is tearing itself apart. Some say this , others that. Some say give up, others say its still worth it.
I believe the world cant get its act together because of what was described in Danials Prophesy, that the stat of the final "world-order" will be like steel mixed with clay.....in comparison to the past world orders, we are living in the weakest part of that prophesised statue. Parent against kids, kids against parents , neighbour against neighbour . Nation against nation. Nothing is mixing well with one another, to the point where any threat , will bring the whole statue down.

Why would they encourage you to shun anyone? First of all, if you're not a baptized member yet, then you're not obligated by their religion to shun anyone. Secondly, their practice of shunning is somewhat unpalatable and controversial. It's not the type of thing they like to talk to potential converts about. They would rather prospective converts not know about this practice, and they will often lie to the media and courts about how they implement it.

The world isn't perfect and is definitely plagued with problems. But this notion that it's worst now than it's ever been is provably false. Have you ever actually delved into history to see the kind of frequent, bloody wars that took place centuries ago? Did you know that in the context of war, historians refer to this modern period as "the long peace" due to it being relatively peaceful compared to other periods? Have you took the time to learn about the many ghastly plagues that swept across the globe killing large segments of the global population? Have taken the time to consider how many millions died of preventable medical issues like infection before the invention of antibiotics? Would you rather live in the middle ages when plague was raging and you could be tortured to death for heretical beliefs?
Your claims/insinuations about our modern times being the worst are demonstrably false, and likely based on religious propaganda by those who have a "last days", "critical times hard to deal with" religious narrative to push on you. That and the modern news medias' focus on bad news which can give one the false impression that everything everywhere is bad. You need to learn to think more carefully and critically.
