On one hand I love that this exists & shows the chaos that followed the Roses, on the other hand - it would be so brilliant to have this entire song documented live while they were at their peak!

The original footage carries on for about 5 more seconds where Ian breaks out into a Monkey Dance. Shame it’s not in any of the other TH-cam videos. Classic Television!! Heard in an interview with John Squire on Radio that they turned the amps up after rehearsal cos they didn’t think it was loud enough and that’s what tripped the fuses. Funny how they then blame the BBC engineers 😂
Sorry I can’t remember which one it was. It was a TH-cam video of the recording of the Radio session. Just the sound, no video footage. There is maybe 4 or 5 TH-cam videos of John Squire speaking on his own in radio interviews so check those out. Bless 🙏
I remember hearing that the reason the audio cut out is because John's guitar was so loud it had fucked with the electrics, makes sense as he turns on the flanger and distortion pedal just before it cuts out, and gretsch guitars produce a lot of distortion, don't know if true or not
Their manager Gareth Evans claimed he pulled the power on purpose as a stunt. It was planned, as it would have more impact than a straight performance. You can tell the Ian isn't actually surprised and is playing up to it
@@kingkerkhing Haha maybe. The only things that went off were the guitar amps. The mics were still taping, lighting, cameras unaffected. Maybe the truth will come out some day :)
Apparently it was a sound limiter kicked in due to volume. I read years ago that they had had issues with it during sound check, had got the issue sorted but between then and the live performance John Squire had turned up the volume on his amp, resulting in the limiter kicking in during the chorus of the song as he played it louder than the verse
Their Other Side of Midnight performance was played live but not broadcast live. This performance was being broadcast live as it happened, hence why we have this footage & not a second take.
Ian's teenage response to this issue was what prob dogged the band and ultimately led to premature ending. reni's super chilled reaction is perfect - live tv, shit happens, it's all good, let's try again...
Maybe they pulled the plug because the producers wanted a different song and Made of Stone and I Wanna Be Adored wouldn't be appropriate for the station.
Ian just muttering and pacing in the background is hilarious, he must be such a crotchety old man
That opening riff from John 😍😍😍
Love how Ian always has bed head! It must be deliberate!

Iain Brown shouting 'AMATEURS' after singing like that is brilliant pathos

That’s a bit harsh. I do not agree with Mr. Brown, but respect his position. But to call him a ‘zombie celeb’, I don’t know.

Yea I think they pulled the plug because of Ian. Producers didn’t want to risk it, seeing him struggle by the first chorus

Sounds like something that somebody somewhere said but simply isn't true.
Yeah, there wasn’t a lot of other stuff drawing power in that room.

@letitbleep2683 I read that they turned the volume up on the amps
Did they ever sort it out and continued the song?
No, after the photography showcase and debate which lasted 20 mins, they just played out with a video of Fools Gold
Ian Brown’s look, sound, lyrics made The Stone Roses into something Beatlesque. Take him out of the equation and you got a guitar, bass and drum.
He was the ace face of the band
No shit
Anybody can explain Why they Stop the performance

The Stone Roses were very much rated, darlings of the music press. Neds were fun.
The Neds were great and underrated but The Stone Roses are truly one of the greatest acts in the history of popular music and extremely underrated.
