i got SO MAD trying to learn this game. all the little symbols on the cards next to eachother in different orders and arrangements is like trying to read ancient egpyptian hieroglyphics holy CRAP
Dead Reckoning is launching July 7th FYI... Unless it gets delayed for some reason. I know I can't wait, this game looks amazing... A euroized, deck builder, 4-X game with card crafting... Yes please!!
I noticed that each ship board has the name "Dauntless" - have you heard word whether they will have different names, following this prototype version?
Hey Jon! With the PM closing soon would love to hear some more final thoughts on the game. Anything comparable or does this feel unique enough? I LOVE the setting which is why I’m thinking about picking it up
Honestly, I never actually got to play a real full game of this one. I'd like to though, I was intrigued by what I saw but that's all I can really say.
I might not have specifically called it out. The wheel is effectively a variable power that activates with specific cards. Some will give you cargo based on how many wheels you have played that turn, others give bonuses like extra enhancements. So wheels by themselves do nothing, you want to pair them with other cards that activate wheels in order to get benefits.
Ha, I was wondering if anyone would notice that. AEG needed this prototype to make the rounds and because of that I had to have this video fully filmed by mid-May. I ended up fully finishing this video and uploading it to youtube before I finished the backdrop so this is just a blast from the near past :)
@@GettingGames You are awesome! Wasn't expecting an answer 1 year after you publishing this video but decided to give it a go and...AWESOME! 😀 Thank you! They do seem different from the ones from the KS campaign...that was why I was wondering if they were a proxy from another game. Cheers!
I had a prototype version so I have no idea what the box storage situation will be in the final version. It did take me a while to break it all down but it was just me and if there were other people around the table I imagine it'd only take 5 minutes or so.
Would love to see this game come out in retail? Any word on that? Plus if I did have to make one change to this game, it would be the combat. I would love to see a Dune like combat or even some chance die! Maybe you earn dice with different sides for the upgrades on your cards…
@@JohnLudlow If I remember correctly he was working on Edge of Darkness or Dead Reckoning and AEG asked him to take the card crafting and make a simpler game to introduce the idea to audiences so it wouldn't be too much for a more complicated game in the future.
I honestly don't know why they aren't available for all my videos. They are supposed to all get auto-generated english subtitles but for some reason TH-cam only puts those up on some of my videos. Perhaps this one is in a queue to have that done? Sorry about that.
When I first heard the rule I had the same thought but after watching the whole playthrough I found it to be the correct move. It gives you something to think about in between turns and you can only do it to one card per turn. And by the end getting 3 or 4 cards up to level 4 took awhile. You have to work hard to gain enhancements, ship upgrades, build buildings so it's nice to have a little instant gratification.
Writing this in April of 2022, and this is still the best tutorial for Dead Reckoning.

Your videos make me want to buy games, great stuff here and I can't wait for it... I could also listen to you read the phone book :)
Great job explaining the rules. Best I've seen yet. Just found your channel, but subbed for the great content.
Very clever, thanks Jon. Can’t wait to see how these pirates all take the epic game to the high seas.
Keep up the great work, your channel is such a hidden gem! Love your reviews❤
With 40k subscribers, not sure Jon is "hidden" anymore. ;)
You are a legend mate. Keep it up.
Great explanation Jon, as your usual. I'll have to check this kickstarter when it comes out
Just got my copy today, thanks for this playthrough!

yes, the ships will all have different names in the final version.
Outstanding playthru. Do you think the 9 august Kickstarter for expansion will have availability to get the original game?
So I’m allowed to advance two cards if I bring one upgrade in the next turn and buy also a second on in this turn ?

I may have missed it but I can’t seem to find what the ship wheel icon does.

Great video as always!
What happend to the new backdrop?

Hey Jon is there a limit to the number of times a player can attack opposing buildings per turn?
Unfortunately, it's been too long since I played this game to remember the rules enough to answer your question. Sorry about that!
@@GettingGames understandable!
This game looks amazing! Does it bother anyone else that the combat cube trays icons are upside down?
They are, but with my camera position this seemed to bet he only way to fit it all on the table and not have the ship be in the way.
@@GettingGames I assumed as much 😃 still an amazing play through, as always! Thank you for your content!
Hi!
What are those metal coins you are Weaving there? :)
Those coins came with the prototype I used for the video.

when is this coming to kick starter?
I believe it will be up next week. They asked me to post the video early to keep the buzz going :)
I'd be interested to know how long this game takes to set up and tear down...plus does all that stuff fit back in the box? :-)

it looks like set up takes half a game of scythe lol

No idea when this is hitting retail, sorry.
losing that fight seemed super beneficial first round. Not thematic, but it does seem like it would push you to be more aggressive.
You could think of it thematically like the ship's crew decided to get into tip-top shape after losing so it won't happen again.
Agreed, I like that losing isn't devastating in this game.
Definitely has a mystic vale vibe withe card crafting.
Justin Reece Makes sense since John D Clair is the designer.
@@BlueSapphyre Yeah when I saw Clair was the designer I was like "oh, card crafting then?" That's his thing at the moment

0.75x speed and this video is perfect
Leveling sucks. You should have to earn it.....

You have 12 cards that can level 3 times each... If there are a chunk fewer than 36 rounds in the game, auto level is fine.
