The new dice look really good and the walls now being portals makes a lot more sense. Don't think I'll move on from the original game to the second edition, but it looks tempting.
Well, you can try the game online, currently you can play as Cave Goblins and Breakers even if you dont pay anything, and get matched even against other factions. I believe the plan for the future is to rotate these two free factions weekly.

This is obviously a bit (very) late, but I can think of an unofficial way to close the skill gap if you're playing with new players. I haven't played, so I don't know exactly how balanced / unbalanced this would be, but if you're the better player, you could just shuffle your 30 cards, and remove X amount randomly (without looking). So, effectively playing 25 vs 30, or something along those lines. Obviously, you could remove more or less, depending on the skill gap. To add some randomness, you could also maybe just have both players remove 5 cards randomly. That way, you never know if you're missing a powerful card. Unsure if this would make it more or less fun.
I love second editions when I don't own the game, since then all the first ed. go on sale cheap in the used markets. But when I own the game it sucks lol, the debate of whether to get it or not will be a tough one.
Having hits on 5/6 die faces seems like a good idea at first, but I'm worry it would just be frustrating. If you roll well in Commands and Colors, it feels like a fun bonus. When the odds are >80% per die I would likely feel deprived by bad luck. I'd love to see a C&C style game with cards instead of blocks that take 40 minutes to set up though.
I need to see more of Quintin strings. And I should go online for summoner wars cause I remember it being a really fun idea. I just couldn't quite figure it out since my games would just go to the wire.
I recognized that music. I was watching some build a cool period appropriate house in valheim. the video was ~15 mins long and obviously the song isn't, so their solution was to put it on repeat. it got muted pretty quickly lol
Hi Quinn, an advice. I think the YT algorithm can detect the standard BEEP and somehow that hurts the reach of the video. I'm seeing many youtubers use different sounds for the same purpose to avoid this. I have no actual knowledge about this, I have heard this, it makes sense and i see other people doing it. cheers!
I bloody loved the 1st edition of the Master Set. Neat change that ranged attacks are a smidge weaker than melee - beautiful looking redesign on the game as a whole as well.
How does it compare to the original version? I have collected most of it - and cant see a huge difference in game play. Apart from the nice new artwork, what is there to pull me into this version? Thank you
So I love Tash Kalar and quite a few of my friends do too. I get a similar vibe off of this even with the obvious differences. Any one play both and have anything to say regarding how they feel thgey stack up?
I've been wanting to say this for some time and this is a good opportunity. It is amazing how in SU&SD we got to see Quinss aging on the outside over the years. He looks like two different persons at one point.
Oh god, Mage Wars is so good. One of my favorite games, but I only know a few people who will play it with me because of the complexity and overwhelming-ness of options. Maybe this is the way to scratch my Mage Wars itch with something the average person would still play with me?

Quinn, love you and the teams work. Excellent review and a game I'm looking at getting to play with my 9yo twins. Do you think it will be fine for them or a bit too much? Keep up the good work... Damn fine British humour as always!
I will say I ended up giving away my Alliances set of the 1st edition. This was back when I though Tom Vassal's approval meant anything. All the factions seemed a little same-y? The powers just clogged up the reality that there was a lot of just get three guys on one so the enemy dies before shooting back next turn. Obviously, the online preview should prevent anyone from buying something they don't love
I love this game and have had many great games with my son over the years. For myself though, I see no need to get this as I have so much from the Master Set and Alliances. My Alliances box is signed as well.
This game looks great to me! Pretty much exactly what I like in games. Buuuutt yeah, as soon as you get better than your friends (which will happen quickly) it just sits on the shelf not getting played much... Maybe I should check out that digital version.
I was concerned about the size of the master set’s box but thankfully the reference potato gnocchis of domination helped a lot
How to tell lockdown has gone on too long: there's now a SU&SD-verse with ongoing storyarcs and recurring secondary characters
