To each their own, however, I find this review a little bit ridiculous. As an owner of an XC40 I got used to the shifter almost immediately and don't even give it a second thought.
I get your concern. It's a nitpick for sure, but definitely took some getting used to. It's also a little counterintuitive to me to push forward for reverse, and reverse for drive.
I own a Volvo with this shifter. I live in the city where I need to do a lot of parallel parking and maneuvering out of tight spots in alleys, etc. It is really annoying and unnecessary. The conventional shifter for automatic transmissions had been solved decades ago. Volvo said let us fuck it up.
That's true gbaradnay but as far as the segment is concerned, the operation here is far more balkier than it should be, especially against rivals like the Jaguar E-Pace that let you put the trans into gear and go versus what Volvo has here. As mentioned in my insta post, its not the end of the world, and the XC40 really shines once its formally moving out and about.
@@carlmalek1429 in the uk we have a better set up with gears in that we do not have to double click through the gears, volvo must have fitted a new gear box on the xc4c40 this year
KISS principle. Why? I wanted to buy the 2019 XC40 because it was just the right size for me. I did not buy the 2019 XC40 because of the shifting issue.
Have driven this particular car with the exact same gear knob To be really honest it fine. Just a question of getting used to it. So I think you're just being a little bit nitpicky.

I just got my XC40 the other day and it took me 5 minutes to get used to it
wonder how annoyed he must be when he has to drive a manual xD

"You have to release the parking brake".
Welcome to driving.
An owner can get used to it after aprroximately 1 hour.....

took me 3 seconds
I agree, it must be extremely difficult to press the gas pedal to release the parking brake
Unfortunately you don’t know how to use the Crystal gear shift 😂
If you don’t set the parking brake, the shifter is easy to use. Is it different yes but, it’s yours learn how to use it.
It's all about safety it's a volvo if you can't get used to the controls of anycar you should not be driving end of

what! worse shifter? LMFAO! It doesnt take a rocket science to realize to DOUBLE TAP!!!!
What's the advantage of the double tap? How is this an improvement?
This shifter is a pain in the ass
its just a double tap..... SHEESH! much better than that stupid PUSH BUTTON SHIFTERS!!!! looking at you ACURA/HONDA... LINCOLN!

Doesn’t this shifter have to points of resistance? Maybe you should just pull past them??
Not stick
