      The lack of a mechanical door lock is, in my opinion, a safety hazard. If you can’t get back into your car when you need to you could be in trouble. This especially true in the winter or during a storm. The lack of a key to get into the trunk is also bad news. If you need jumper cables or other emergency supplies in your trunk you are out of luck if the battery is dead.

    • @mooreracer
      @mooreracer ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@doctorkdsify The drivers door key cylinder does in fact have a mechanical connection to the door latch on this vehicle. "Scotty" apparently couldn't take 5 minutes to look at service information (or look more carefully inside the door) to learn this fact. Instead he publishes a ridiculous video and convinces folks that "New Honda's are Crap". Likely the lock cylinder was not properly installed by the body shop when drivers side was repaired. Moral of the story.....don't believe what you see on youtube!!!

      I would be surprised if Toyota was doing a different thing. It's a little hard to believe that only Honda is doing this. It's also fair to say that the frequency of your battery being utterly dead throughout ownership is rare. The juice needed to unlock a car is minimal at best. These are important things to consider. I wouldn't go so far as to say Hondas are crap as a result.

It still has power steering, ABS brakes, good air conditioning and decent power for a small car. Last year I got it from a friend for $1000. I put another $1000 in it for a front wheel bearing and new rear drum brakes. That's 2 grand. I also replaced 3 or the 4 tires and one of the old tires is now the spare. This produces the same Voltage but has more battery oomph available. The downside is a slightly shorter battery life.

      Actually you are producing double the voltage because you are stacking them in series 6 volts instead of 3 volts.

      You need the long bar with a J-hook at the end. It goes in at the upper right (or left) corner of the door, and you can use a small plastic pry to get that long bar in. I used to work in roadside assistance and sometmies I'd get a lockout call. I'd unlock the door by either the handle, the lock button or hitting the lock toggle - it's still mechanical from the inside.

    • @metalmike570
      @metalmike570 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes but when he turned the key it's to send an electronic signal only, so if the main battery is dead it's worthless. Then only roadside assistance can get in the vehicle.

      @@metalmike570 I saw what he done in the video, what I said is there might have been a "Mechanical" lock on the passengers(right side for American cars)
      Scotty only checked the drivers side on this video. Fail safe for when you don't have any power, I remember a Nissan that only had a mechanical lock on the passengers side, I helped a lady get into her own car years ago, 2008ish.

      You can’t. That’s why Scotty said leave the window down as a joke. Just make sure your battery is good. Get it tested or just replace it every two years.

  • @sanders858
    @sanders858 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    A better idea than leaving the window rolled down is to wire charging wires to the battery. That way, if the battery ever fails you can find someone to hook jumper cables to those hidden wires to get your 12 volts in order to unlock the car and pop the hood. Then take the cables off and go directly to the battery to get a jump start.

      No one is going to leave their car windows open all the time. That would only apply when you go off for a casual drive and can see the car. Any other time would invite thieves to break in. A mechanical lock is what is needed. I won't buy another car if the lock is electronic.

    Hey Scotty. This video alarmed me because I had just bought a 2023 Honda Accord Hybrid with one of those funny keys on the FOB. It is a MUST that the feature be available to be able to access my new hybrid if the battery somehow goes dead, so I checked it out. It works! It also appears to be a mechanical connection because you have to really muscle it.

    It seems like the idea of "backup systems" is going out the window. There's a reason why all these smart home locks come with a physical key (which actually makes it easier to break into). Unless you can create a keyless system that can open the car when the battery is dead (say, at least 10x), then don't get rid of the physical key.

    • @Electrodexify
      @Electrodexify ปีที่แล้ว +2

    • @dawfurby

      @@ElectrodexifyThis first model year didn’t have a mechanical backup key, it just drove an electric switch that unlocked the car. Of the battery dies so does the secondary switch. After this they changed the secondary back to mechanical means. Still uses the same electric keyless though. Also all Hondas and acuras have a trunk opener that uses the key itself to unlock it, but without a keyhole it’s useless.

The "mechanics" I took it to. claimed it was the timing chain because "valve noise" true those parts affect the top end. But this vehicle only had 130,000 MI. With full synthetic oil changes and top of the line filters. Also those idiots drilled on the oil plug so tight I thought it was going to tear the threads. Never letting them touch my vehicles again

    Scottie, I do want to let you know that a lot of these electric cars with electric locks have a positive terminal underneath the body of the car, so you can connect a jumper cable to that terminal and a negative to the solid body of the car.
