    I really like the Schuyler. I do agree that it would be so much better with 36GSM paper. Thanks Tim, great review as usual.

    Allan definitely wins it for me. Better paper and I’m not a fan of the cross on the leather, would like to see options without it.

    If I was blessed to actually have to make the decision between those 2 I’d pick the Allan pretty much just because of the double column center column format. That’s my favorite format. Now a days it’s hard to find a Bible with double column center column reference. Not sure why. It’s the best layout.

    I'd probably go with the Allan. I love the blue and silver art gilding. And having the reference notes in the center column does make them easier to find than if they were at the bottom, I would think.

    I totally agree with you about the size of the font in the concordance. May as well not even be there. I have a new NASB Schuyler also and it is absolutely beautiful! It has a blue-under-silver gilt now, too. The words look like tiny ants crawling across the pages. I'm also discovering I don't care for the references at the bottom of the page as much as I thought I would. I think I'd rather have the middle column. The workmanship is exquisite though except for that unfortunate concordance.

    I have the older Schuylers with the 36 gsm paper and ever since they switched to 28 gsm I've ended up going with Allan. Turning the paper without a fight makes a difference but both are definitely winners.

    Really interesting that you gave Schuyler the edge on the end sheets. I hate fake stuff, and so a fake leather just looks horrible to me compared to a nice linen print paper. We all know that it's not leather so why make it look like leather? That's one of the great things I love about my allan! Very interesting everyone has different tastes 😄

      That's true. My Bible is a Thomas Nelson LeatherSoft Center Column Reference KJV Bible and I love it. The only negative thing I have to say about it is , it doesn't have the smell you get from genuine leather. But I guess you can't have everything, can you?

    I had the chance to buy one. I picked the Schuyler because it has 11 point. I have bad eyes and need the biggest letters I can get.

    I bought the Quentel a few months ago and I regretted it. I keep finding little formatting glitches in the text block. ie. the indentation of the Claudius Lysias letter in Acts 23:26-30 is messed up. Several footnotes like Acts 25:25 refer back to an earlier footnote saying "V 21, note 1" but 25:21 only has a note 9 because of how the Quentel renumbered the notes. Another tiny oddity is how they kept bold letters to indicate when a paragraph starts. ie. Acts 13:16, Jam 3:5 but they didn't when a verse number starts a paragraph. I find the shape of numbers in this font weird to begin with. Another small thing is how the section heading of Isa 12 almost touches the red chapter marker at the top of the page because the top margin space is so little. In practice, I also realized that cross-references at the bottom of the page are harder to use compared to a side or center column. None of these things are deal-breakers of course but the classic Lockman text block is just more precise.

    • @anickelsworthbiblereviews
      @anickelsworthbiblereviews  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Those are some precise complaints. I don’t see some of the issues in mine. The bolder letter to indicate a new paragraph is odd, but also rather nifty.

    Whereas paragraph style works well for ESV and CSB, I prefer the traditional verse by verse format for NASB and KJV.

    The stitching in theory is great until it starts to unravel from use. My Schuler personal quentel the stitching has come apart in some area of the cover. Either the glue comes undone or the stitching breaks from use. The glued flap you can re glue the stitching you can’t re stitch. I do burn the stitches that are broken with a lighter so they disappear. Both have their faults and good points

    The only reason I am not 110% for Allan is because they prefer double column verse by verse. Schuyler really jumps ahead for that reason, in my opinion. The Scuyler Quentel is simply the BEST reading bible for me, no competition.

    I had a Schuyler KJV but the ghosting was horrible, I wanted to like the Bible and I thought the binding was great , but 28 gsm has too much ghosting. I have a turquoise with 28 gsm and it has hardly no ghosting.
    I will never buy a Schuyler until they get this problem fixed.

  • @kimwingert8967

    Schuyler for me. I have never liked the print of Allen Bibles, it always looks like the old dark crowded print Bibles to me. I find Schuyler prints much clearer and cleaner. The 28gsm doesn’t bother me either, the more you use a Bible the easier it is. I also really don’t like blue under silver, and I find that blue with red numbers in the text really wrong. I agree Schuyler could use more paper at the back!
