gary, this is a really nice video. It's long, but viewlayers and compositing are pretty gnarly, so worth spending the time. And I enjoyed the background chatter - I had 'forgotten' A Tribe Called Quest, but now I've added them to my spotify favourites!
Awesome tutorial Gary! The blender scene needs more tutorials like this, showing the nuts and bolts of how to actually create real-world projects as opposed to the usual self-contained demos of the latest sexy features.
@@GENVFX yeah I have a blank folder tree template that Mimics Maya’s that I made years ago but I keep forgetting to use when I start a new project. I’m just too eager to start :)
That was a great tutorial and basically something I have been looking for for ages - I always wanted to know more about how to use view layers and all that. Having said this you lost me a bit when you brought the files into .. what? Some wild clicking and lots of mumbling later I kinda caught up with the tutorial again when we got back to the scenes 😂 - I still feel I have to try this out a lot more and maybe find a bit more information around it because it's a fantastic tool and I definitely would like to use it more.. Thank you for taking the time to make this tutorial and for sharing it with us
That's so kind and, yes, sorry about the mumbling. I do each tutorial without recording first to be sure I have everything correct, but occasionally I have to think on the fly and I get a bit mumbly. Thanks!
This was amazing! I've used the scene for a commercial I did. I did different takes in different scenes and just copy pasted the models in the other one. but linking was something cool to do! and I didn't have any idea how view layers work and that was pretty new to me! basically it can be used like after effects layers for compositing and editing! thanks for this great tutorial.

It's all these little things that no one really talks about that make it so accessible for project work
Saying that, I want them to instigate a proper project setup like in Maya. That would be ace

I've been using PostHaste for a while now when it come to creating projects. It's amazing and free.
