I've traveled to most of the USA but not to Lubec, Maine! I now live in FL and have come late to the lathe but love what is happening under my bowl gouge! I've learned so much from your videos! Thank you for your promotion of the art of wood turning!
Lubec Maine I went ahead and searched pictures of your town and it seems so peaceful. It is so beautiful I bet it's not hard to find artistic inspiration in a place like that.
You know, when i found your channel i thought it would be fun to watch it for a while. I am not a wood worker and have no plans to become one too. But the longer i am a subscriber, the more i like it. I love your work and watching it. Thank you for sharing Peggy. 🌹
Cincinnati enjoying watching Lubeck, Maine do all of this fine work! As a new turner, I am trying to learn as much as I can. Thank you for sharing your speeds, grits, and just being an all around great demonstrator!
Greetings from Litchfield Minnesota to Lubec Maine! Gotta love maple. I built all of my wife’s kitchen cabinets including the countertops out of maple.
Peggy I love your work and it turned out beautiful. The second foot is much better than the first, and seems to fit the bowl better. I lived many years just a bit south of Lubec , Maine, but moved south where the winters were a little easier to live with.
Another great video and a very nice bowl. I really appreciate your video style and enjoy both your natural and embellished work. My wife and I have gone on birdwatching in several parts of the U.S. and Maine is still on our list. Lubec, ME looks beautiful. Thanks for putting together the contest.
Beautiful. Just bought the new Rikon turning system w/carbide cutters. OMG , what a difference. It's on now. Lol. Keep up the great work Peggy. I enjoy studying your videos. I've learned a great deal watching them. Thank you !!
Wow you really make using the bowl gouge look really easy. I have been turning for around 2 years and I still only use carbide tipped tools for the lost part. Thanks for so many wonderful videos you put out. They are all amazing. Lubec, Maine. I’ve never been to Maine.
I truly enjoy you work Lubec, Maine down here in Round Rock, Texas. As for the foot, most definitely the second one as it just fits better the overall size of the bowl in my opinion. I've been turning for a little shy of 2 years and therefore I have a lot of catching up to become as proficient as you. I try and watch and you are one of my favorites to watch. Never tried the Acks products as of now I make my own. I have less than 200 subscribers and only a handful of videos out but one day I'll have more. Would love to get some feedback from you if you have time. Or from any of your subscribers aswell. Another great project I really enjoy. Take care.
Greetings for Globe, AZ to Lubec, Maine!!! To answer your question about the Easy Wood Chuck, I purchased one about 5 years ago and have never regretted making that purchase. It's a bit on the pricey side, but saves a lot of time changing the chuck jaws, especially changing to the cole jaws.
The grain in that is beautiful. Love the edge of the bowl, adds some character. Im in Virginia Beach, VA. But I'm from Wisconsin. Navy has me here, but I've been here for 18 years already. So its home now. Moving to NC next year when our house is finished, then I finally get to build my shop and start turning. Lubec, Maine sounds fairly far north, dress warm and keep making beautful things!
Hi Peggy, yes the easy chuck has a big price tag... really big... BUT, I really love how quick and easy it is to change the jaws!! I feel it is worth the investment
Mentioning "Bloody Knuckles,"made me think how you seem to go through a lot of Band Aids witch I thought was interesting as I just had to get a new box of Band Aids for my shop. Must be a turner thing. I have an Easy Wood chuck and love it. Makes changing jaws super fast and I change jaws often. Beautiful bowl! Thanks for all you do. I seem to learn something new from each video you make.
Lubec, Maine! My wife and i love that place. I have an Easy Wood chuck and it's a sweet tool to work with. Personally,i think it's worth the investment to have good tools.
I’ve got the easy wood chuck and love it. Also added the larger jaws as well. The speed of change is so fast. Well worth it over removing and replacing 8 screws every time.
Oh the Zen of sanding! I did high-end stringed instruments finishes for years. Talk about sanding! All by hand, (tuff to spin a guitar like a bowl). Also, during surface prep, before the first coat of nitrocellulose lacquer, the sanding pattern must follow the grain to avoid cross scratching. Necks, sides, back and sound board, including the areas where the neck joins the body, generally 80 to 400 grit. Then spray and sand, spray and sand until you have a glass like, super thin finish. . Definitely requires a high tolerance to repetition.
Good morning Peggy, lovely bowl that you turned to perfection! Being a resident of a small town in Northwestern Alberta Canada named Mayerthorpe I am extremely far from Lubec, Maine and it would take over a week to travel to your home! About lathe chucks, I too have several Nova chucks and a Nova lathe but my chuck of choice is a Oneway talon or a Oneway strong hold as I own both. These are made in Canada and are loved by a lot of turners so you have another option if you plan on trying another brand of chuck! Thanks for the great video! Cheers Al
Very nice bowl and when I was in the Navy, I was stationed there in Kittery, ME. Beautiful state with “very” cold winters! I really enjoyed my time there and the lobster subs were to die for!
Looks awesome! I've only been turning for a few months. I started watching your version and a few others and had to do it myself...I love it! Lubec, Maine.
I love the grain on this piece, it makes the bowl special. I think you chose the better foot too. Im not a wood turner, so Im not entering the contest. I just like watching the art process of plain wood to a beautiful object! Thanks!
Another beautiful bowl. I really love the outer band at the rim. It reminds me of the shape of the bowls my grandmother used in her kitchen. I just don’t see many turning bowls like this. My lathe should arrive early next week. I’m excited about starting this new hobby.
I’ve never been to Lubec, Maine or anywhere in Maine. I’ve always wanted to visit Maine in the fall. I live in Casar, NC. Beautiful bowl, wish I was that talented.
Did not enter your competition as I live in South Africa which would be pointless. Just have to say that that bowl is really very pretty, with beautiful grain. You made it look so easy!
As so many others have said, definitely the second. It seems to be more in proportion to the bottom of the bowl. The grain is magnificent. And, as always, another beautiful piece.
I am new to your channel and I love your work. Lubec, Maine is quite a distance from Austin, Tx. Just starting to turn bowls and having a great time. Thank you
Very nice bowl, Peggy. I'm sure you will love the Easy chuck if you get one. I love mine so much I bought a 2nd one and several of the jaws. It takes about 20 seconds to change the jaws. I know the $400. Price tag is a bit much but as I mentioned before I didn't hesitate to buy another one, no regrets. Take care.
Nicely done Peggy!! I'm working on a Wenge bowl right now and the Acks does a fantastic job on it. However I don't think I'll turn Wenge again until I get more experience. From Millington MI to Lubeck Maine....Thanks for sharing.
Peggy, been to Cape Cod but never Lubec Maine. I loved Maine except when the black fly's are out....... Another great video and I love the ridge along the top of the bowl!
