Junctions of Davao

A city of 2 million people and growing, Davao City is one of the Philippines’ booming metropolises. But just like any other cities worldwide, it was not spared from the crippling effects of the covid-19 pandemic that put everything into a disconcerting halt. Two years onward, the city is returning to its former vibrant and hectic pace as seen through these footages taken during the early evening rush hour between November 2021 and February 2022.
For some, this regained mobility is seen as a risk factor for the further spread of the disease. For some, it satisfies the people’s primeval desire to connect physically again-to be around friends and strangers on the road, parks, and public transportation; to regain what was lost-after being confined indoors for months and years. Needless to say, these bright and lively junctions represent our humanity. As crossings where people from all walks of life converge, these junctions make us feel we are not alone.
