Conquering Mts. Kitanglad, Dulang-dulang & Maagnaw

The year 2023 has been dedicated to exploring the majestic mountains of the Philippines, and what better way to conclude it than with a hike to three colossal peaks in the awe-inspiring Kitanglad mountain range, nestled in my favorite province of Bukidnon?
Our five-day adventure in mid-November began with a visit to Datu Nanlimbas, a revered Talaandig datu, who performed a purifying ritual for our group and graciously hosted us for our first night. We started our trek with the challenging ascent of Mt. Maagnaw, the 8th highest peak in the Philippines. The following morning, we embarked on a reverse traverse hike through the formidable mountain range, renowned for its steep, lush, and densely forested ridges and slopes. After a grueling four-hour trek, we reached the summit of Mt. Maagnaw and spent the afternoon soaking in the breathtaking mountain vistas and watching a captivating sunset.
On the third day, we tackled a six-hour ascent to Mount Dulang-Dulang (2,941 meters above sea level), the highest peak in the range and the second highest in the country. We camped near the summit, enduring the 8-degree cold through the night amidst the enchanting elfin forest.
Our final day saw us navigating the steep slopes of Mount Kitanglad. The hikers’ cabin at the summit provided a welcome respite, offering a warm and cozy haven as we concluded our adventure on the fourth highest peak in the Philippines.
