    Thank you so much... The neighbor has shared their pears with me, and after canning one batch, she asked me if I made preserves, and said she added sugar and left them over night and then baked them... This, I think, is close enough to make her smile... She's old enough, now, that she would never do this for herself and her husband anymore... Cheers!

    Hi Tina. Great video 😊 My apple and pear trees are only about 3 years old. I got my first Apple this year whoot, whoot. I was excited. Thanks for sharing this. I'm adding it to my canning videos and sharing it also. I wish my kitchen was as well organized as yours. It's beautiful Tina.

      Hi Debbie! YAY Congrats on your apple! I know the feeling - it is so exciting when something finally starts producing! May it have a bumper crop next year. :-) Thank you re my kitchen - my son built the cabinets for me and we tiled the countertops together. I am proud of it. It is very small - my lower cabinets and closets and pantries are crammed full to keep the counters clear LOL Looking forward to more videos from you :-) Have a wonderful day! Tina

    I just finished canning pear relish from my grandmother's recipe, which I updated, and I could have been watching myself, with the new lid-grabber, the too-hot-to handle jars, and the wiping off of edges with wet paper towels. I actually told my husband that the popping sound of sealing jars is one of the best sounds in the world!
    Today is pear preserve day, a recipe from my other grandmother, so I'm glad I found your video, especially since I'm using about the same amount of pears. THANKS

      Oh good! Boy, you are fortunate to have something to peel those hard pears with! LOL! I usually like peeling fruit but pears are a bit of a pain. My stepmother is canning pears "as we speak". She offered me some but I still have a lot from last year so had to decline, sadly. Tina

    I love pear preserves too! Fig preserves are my other favorite. My stepmother in Tennessee used to make wild pear preserves every year. She called them "deer pears" since they would come up to eat them off the trees. They were a small pear and delicious.

    • @PecanCorner
      @PecanCorner 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      moblackbird Oh fig preserves are the best too (both best LOL). I guess I am going to have to plant a fig tree because they grow well here. We can't get them fresh in the stores. Interesting about wild pears... we didn't have those in Oklahoma and I haven't heard of them in Texas - although old pear trees are often found on old home sites where the house is long gone.Deer do love anything sweet, they ate half my peaches this year! :-) Tina

    • @moblackbird
      @moblackbird 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think Flo (my stepmother) said that those pear trees had just come up on their own, mostly around the hedgerows. They were on property that had been in her family for a long time, so probably they had pear trees planted originally. When I first moved to Texas the house I lived in had a huge fig tree in the back yard. Wish I'd known about canning back then--the birds always got them before I could.
