      Agreed. If you are seeing a coach and also have any kind of MH diagnosis ( stable pref) make sure that perhaps that coach also has training coaching in that area like ADHD. And make sure they are licensed in an area like LiCSW, LPC, etc. Its not that unlicensed people can’t be good coaches, but as a consumer, you have more protection if that coach is also covered by a licensing board in their field.
      There are many who retire from practice and become specific coaches in certain fields like ADHD or even nutrition issues but those are specialty areas and really need expertise in those areas.
      Just be good advocates for yourself. Ask about any licensing and there are no “licensing “ boards for coaches, just for their original degrees. And only talking about ADHD Coaching, weekly accountability is really important and if you become unstable in a co-existing MI, they should refer you to safety provider such as an ER for psych assessment and then pause your coaching until you are stable. Never saying you cant get coaching and therapy but need to be stable, period, before you do coaching.

      Ugh. Me too. 4 years on the dot. Quit about 6 months ago and am still undoing some of the damage it caused even to me. Not that there weren't truly positive things that were helpful to many others, but overall, once you're past the "high" of the first couple years or so of coaching, a real darkness and anxiety can settle in and be perpetuated by the same person(s) who "saved" you initially. I still can't get over my boss who believes every illness and disease is caused by the individual themselves for not having the mindfulness to overcome it and for "allowing" the negativity into their life. Some teachings even went as far as to say anyone who was in an accident that caused paralysis was subconsciously "attracting" that fate because they were tired of life's overwhelming demands. Honestly brings tears to my eyes just thinking about how messed up that is and how many truly and wholeheartedly believe that.

What you really need is time and friends and you will do just fine. Now if you are really sick and require medication then time and friends might not do it anymore. hmm, with all due respect, this is an over simplification of what life coaching is and not representative of good coaching. Yes, there are a lot of scammers out there. But that is true in any industry, especially one as new as this one. However, it depends on who you work with. I am a coach and a healer myself and here are some things I’d like to mention. Please note that this is based on how I approach coaching and healing. I cannot speak for anyone else, but I do know several coaches and all in my circle have a similar approach.
    1. The idea behind coaching is to provide guidance, help and support for people to accomplish goals. To help them get the tools and develop the skills necessary to navigate their life in a way that is better for them. Not perfect, better. The idea that coaching is about realizing your full potential is NOT something I have ever heard. So, not sure where you got that from (Tony Robbins?), but it is not the way most coaches I know approach it. It sounds nice, but it is not realistic and I do not believe it is representative of what coaching is.
    2. Coaching is driven by the client’s goals. So, there should not be any situation in which a coach “blames” the client for not improving. Not sure if I misunderstood what you were trying to say.
    3. Coaching is not only about constant self-improvement. While I do believe growth is a life-long endeavor, self-reflection and self-awareness are key. You can be content with where you are and know you want to do more. They are not mutually exclusive. Integration, appreciation and enjoyment of where you are is an important part of coaching and any journey.
    4. IMHO, a good coach will help you develop the skills and provide you with tools to learn how to self-reflect, regulate and navigate life. Not everyone knows how to or can figure this out on their own. If everyone could, a lot of industries would not exist.
    5. Friends are not the same. For one, if you have a complicated situation, most friends will not have the tools, skills or patience to guide you through that. Mine do. I do. But, in my experience, most people do not have those kinds of friendships. Plus, and objective perspective is always important.
    6. I agree. We should NOT need coaches, counselors, therapists, etc. But we do.
    7. I have a bit of a different approach because I do healing work as well. And, the coaches in my circle tend to do both. But, a lot of us are driven by our desire to help others heal, grow and feel better about themselves and their lives. Mostly because we went through the same.
    8. Tony Robbins is not a life coach. He is a motivational speaker. They can go together, but they are different. He may call himself a life coach now, but most coaches I know do not consider him as such. A lot of the points you made seem to be referring specifically to him and his style. Not coaching as a whole. He is very successful and probably a lovely person, but I would never go to him or recommend him to anyone based on what I’ve seen of him. Even, if they could afford it. His brand is pretty much what you described and not what the coaches I know [and myself] practice.

      I think life coaching is a scam. However, certified therapists who have studied and then done training are valuable. Life coaching has no real training, its just something anyone can do without any regulation. Regulation is important because it holds you accountable. Life coaching is an expensive scam and anyone who falls for it is unlucky, I would never see anykind of "life coach". They may not realise it is a scam at first but they will eventually, maybe even many years later. As someone who is finishing their masters this year, and as a relatively young male, I aim to stop this scam. I dislike anything that takes advantage of people.At least therapy through a profession can be free (through government subsidies) and the person is well educated and not in it for the money necessarily.. I live in New Zealand and will be moving back home to Australia soon :). Yes we have free healthcare here and therapy is subsidised or free. Thats why I guess we don't need life coaches (or have the life coach problem on the same scale) like America does, I also know that in America university is very expensive (which sucks, you guys should get what we get here). If only education was cheaper or free in America.

    • @LunaHealing
      @LunaHealing 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I am not sure where you live but therapy is not free in the USA. It is sometimes covered by insurance, but only sometimes and usually not in its entirety.
      As to life coaching being a scam, you are entitled to your opinion, which you seem to feel pretty strongly about. Have you ever worked with a life coach? I'm curious. I've worked with many therapists in a professional capacity as well as a client. And, in my experience, they can be just as bad and cause as much damage. I've also met several wonderful therapists and coaches. So, I prefer not to use a wide brush to paint everyone within an industry. There was a time that Psychiatrists were considered quacks. Anyway, I would encourage you to keep an open mind since at the end of the day the one thing you and I do have in common is that we want to help people. My approach is based on my own life experience and what helped me. Best of luck to you and to your clients.

    This reminds me of a point made in the book 'the 7 habits of highly effective people' where he talks about needing to have 'the right map'. I strongly think this applies to life coaches and self help in general. it's not a scam, you just have the wrong map!
    'Suppose you wanted to arrive at a specific location but you were given the wrong map. You might work on your behavior - you could try harder, be more diligent, double your speed. But your efforts would only succeed in getting you to the wrong place faster. But If you had the right map, then diligence becomes important, and when you encounter frustrating obstacles along the way, then attitude can make a real difference. But the first and most important requirement is the accuracy of the map.' - Steven Covey

And just to clarify I’ve been developing myself because I want to, not because someone told me I needed to do anything. We are all fine just the way we are, there’s nothing to be fixed. I'm learning to become a life coach and there is no such thing for us as scamming clients, we want our clients to never come back to us! The more often our clients come back to us, the more it tells how we aren't able to help this person (unless the client isn't open for changes nor honest to him/herself), so we need to find a coach that fits the client's need.
    a REAL coach wants the best for its clients and yes, we know more about the human potential, and how our brain and emotions work than other people do. That's what makes a real life coach a good life coach. We don't claim to be magicians or to give you a magic recipe or whatever, we are here to help you understand your situation and get you to where you want to be in life, and we will NEVER EVER EVER tell people WHAT to do :).

Learning and improving itself is a great feeling, too. Actually it's more like a philosophy and a way of life. You're point is totally correct though, it's very important to not stress yourself with making your life better. Which is kind of obvious, but I had to learn this the hard way, too. :D
    Many motivational gurus (most of which I like) point this out, too. Yes, it's a business, and yes, many of these guys haven't achieved very much besides making a bunch of money with their motivational books and webinars. But you know what, I don't care, because they helped me. They planted a great deal of good ideas into my mind that helped ALOT for around 100 bucks that I spent in their books. I can tell you, this was totally worth it and I'm very happy that they are doing this.

    As a Life Coach, I hear what you're saying, coming from someone who I guess has been burned by a coach somewhere along the line. If you really know coaches you won't be spreading this utter rubbish. When a coach talks about constant self-development it means that you need to pick an area in your life that you would like to develop and work it till you're where you want to be. Full potential? No one will ever reach it because your potential grows as you as a person grows. That is the magic of life, we all grow constantly, your cells regenerate daily, your hair monthly, the only stagnant thing sometimes is your life, due to the myth of balance. Every life area should be in tension with the other areas, this means that whatever you do at that moment must have all your attention and focus. In that manner, you'll never miss out on anything in life. You get exhausted from comparing yourself to others, and trying to be someone else, when you are your authentic self, life becomes a breeze. Your knowledge expands in yourself, the answers are in yourself as no one will know the questions unless you tell them, and even then they won't have the answer that's right for you, the answer you seek. The best answers are gained by asking better questions, clearly, you're asking the wrong questions and knocking an industry which you don't have a clue of. I'm happy for you if you would like to take years to grow, years to find the answers, Life Coaches helps you to fast track the learning curve. Good luck with that.

    I agree and disagree with you. On the one hand, to tell people that they "Can do anything they want to do" is clearly false! However, it is correct that a person needs to constantly work to improve. Of course, you need to take time to "chill out", but that is not a contradiction to striving for perfection. Furthermore, in regards to negative feelings, a person has to understand that de Vinci did not paint the Mona Lisa over night. You don't come to perfection in one step. There are many many baby steps to be had to get there and each baby step is a growth and success. Even failures are success if you learn from them. Also, the goal is to strive for perfection, not to attain perfection (which is impossible).
    Last point. It is true that not everybody needs a Life Coach. Many can reach conclusions just by taking out time to reflect. However, many others do not know how to do so and need someone to walk them through the steps of self contemplation.
    You mention that you can always turn to a friend. However, that is not always the case. Not everybody is gifted in helping people come to conclusions. Some may even unintentionally steer you in the wrong direction. That is why sometimes you need someone who is trained in the field to guide you along.
    BTW - just in case you are wondering, I am not a Life Coach. Just an ordinary guy.

    A 35 year old “life coach” is counseling a 50 year old who thinks that the 50 year old is not doing enough to improve his situation as if the coach has gone through the same thing that the 50 year old has gone through. One can assess the situation of another person and give some idea about it but claiming a title such as “Life Coach” is quite presumptuous. Having been dragged to a God awful course for 6 days, all I noticed was a roomful of people desperately trying to be happy and hanging on the word of someone telling them how they can look to change things. They don't understand. They are LOST and VERY NEGATIVE.
      Have pity for these LOST SOULS. They are blinded and don't know what they are talking about.
      The negativity you have spread in your lifetime is not your fault, but these experiences may have burdened you with a lifetime of pain, distrust, and insecurities.
      At your core, you may be running patterns that keep you stuck in an endless cycle of abuse/mistrust/negativity that permeates all aspects of your life in spite of your best efforts.
      Traditional counseling or help for negative/lost people typically addresses the historical events and resulting psychological, physical and emotional effects of the negativity.
      While this can be beneficial, it is limited and often only provides relief at the surface-level while leaving the negativity programming intact.
      To heal and eradicate abuse/lost/negative/patterns so that you may change how you experience the rest of your life, you must transform at your core level.
      With the Master Life Coaching Course Series, It created a multi-level, intensive program to help you systematically pinpoint and alter the underlying frequencies of negativity.
      End the cycle of negativity; change your programming so that you no longer participate in abusive relationships, bad luck, being lost and encountering negative people like the blind idiots above.
      Heal from the inflicted damage and engage in mutually healthy, loving, respectful interactions with others that honor the truth of our existence.

Most of these life coaching ppl never specify what their specialty in life coaching. My friend said if a guy who is keep getting rejected by women on dating Apps can try the life coaching. Well, it’s really tricky. I know there are lots of socially awkward ppl on dating apps and they may not know how to engage with women. Those guys can be simply introvert and not good at presenting themselves in a good way or not much experience in online dating. Maybe a life coach can help. But honestly any good friends can give good advice to their introvert friends. What makes me skeptical that there are lots of ppl actually have undiagnosed Asperger syndrome and all the other syndromes which preventing them from socializing and engaging with people in good manners. That’s why they get rejected. These people should not just go to a life coach. To be honest, life coaching should be a volunteer work. Because they are not psychiatrist or psychologist. Also healthy normal adults do know what to do and what’s right and wrong. We may feel stuck in our lives sometimes, but time and your effort can resolve it. We just need a confirmation and a little bit of advice from others. Making good friends is the way to go

    I agree with this video!!! A good friend is what we usually need, mostly because they are more subjective (yes, yes, it matters more than being objective in many situations!) . And by the way, it doesn't mean all life coaches are bad! What I disliked as a coachee was:
    - underestimating the impact of things I cannot control about my situation, things I cannot change; in such moments it's a reasonable thing to tell someone that there's no easy solution because the solution should be external rather than suggest otherwise;
    - trying to reframe a situation to find something good in it, when I clearly don't see anything good in it or don't want to see anything good in it;
    - lack of reasonable point of reference and lack of experience (sorry guys, it's delusional to hope you can help a person whose situation you cannot truly understand, even if you have the purest intentions);
    - being emotionally withdrawn; what I need is someone being my "cheerleader" , emotionally present, not a cold analyst, who can point out some tools or solutions only;
    - behaving as there are expectations about your progress- being process-oriented, not human-oriented;
    - trying to solve psychological problems with coaching tools (via reframing); this one can be really harmful and actually it happened in my case; I believe my coach had good intentions, but
    -talking to a coachee using that whole "artificial" language you're taught to use during the courses; my life is not a "project full of challeneges, which are defined by a priority list".
    - "asking questions only" doesn't work. Really. "What can you do to.... ? ", "How can you make xyz easier?" , "What other solutions could you try?" - that makes me feel as if I were as student caught in the act; it's not helpful, it's annyoing.

    It's not about never-ending improvement. It's about improving the things you want, until you find fulfillment. Even Tony Robbins explains this. Self improvement is basically mastering the art of fulfillment. It's a process which can seem never ending because society is constantly bombarded with unfulfilling commercialized propoganda, which makes the whole process convoluted and confusing. Plus most of us have been indoctrinated into a system of control that inhibits fulfillment. Life coaches can be invaluable if they have risen above status quo mentality.

    If you perceive everything literally, or if you need everything to be spoonfeed, then, everything is a scam...and yeah the last part got my attention. Make friends with your coach.
    Coaching is not a scam. What makes it looks like a scam, when someone proclaim himself a coach after getting a coaching certificate.
    Coaching is an art. Either you have it or you don't.

    I cannot agree. I have tremendous respect for Tony Robins and all the work he has done - and he does provides value.
    I have listened many times to the coaches and like on phycology - it’s a matter of having correct perspective on things and yourself.
    Having right perspective is the most vulnerable thing because it is easily influences by others if we don’t have strong discipline and have our own values grained into our brains.
    Coaches do just that - like phycologists - try to give advice on how to have a better mind set.
    Yes, there is a new fad of everyone wanting to be a coach weather they qualify or not for the role.

    I can see this was posted three years ago... No wonder understanding is still limited to some on Life Coaches/Coaching!!! This wonderful way of service for others is being called... All sorts of things except helpful to those whom value someone taking the time to LISTEN to what they have to say as a human being having a human experience. Life Coaching comes into play as an overall way to get help for life's challenges. I am not here to try and defend something that speaks for itself. All humans have an option to get service from Therapists or a Life Coach.

    I had a life coach who kept trying to tell me her techniques help with trauma. I shared with her that I was trying a few different meds for my trauma and depression as it was getting worse. She fear mongered me about taking meds. She was blind to the fact that life coaching isn’t the right next step for trauma recovery. Thank goodness I fired her, and ketamine therapy has been amazing for my mental health.Another friend recently became a life coach so now I can’t vent to her any more because she ends up trying to sell a program to me. If most people have the ability to help themselves, to help and guide themselves to achieve whatever goals they may have... I think no one will end up with regrets...
    Why do most people haven't achieved their goals and ended with regrets...
    Because not all people have the capacity to help themselves, to figure out what they need to do, and they don't even know what their goal is...
    I'm not saying having a coach is a guarantee to become successful in life, but at least to be able to help someone figure out what their goal is and at least be able to achieve some of it,
    I think that makes sense...

  • @bst857

    I feel that life coaching can be kind of cool if you don't have reliable friends that will keep you accountable to yourself. Like lets say for example you want to do better at something, it can help to have someone who keeps tabs on how you're doing, and has a few ideas on how to improve. Once you have improved you can either work on something else or stop. It doesn't need to be an endless goal of self improvement, it can just be a bit of help to improve some areas of your life. Its when it starts getting into the greedy side of it that it starts going downhill - greedy coaches who will spew any bs to get people hooked, and greedy people who lap it up, expecting to earn millions or be happier just because they follow some guide on how to "harness the power of manifesting" or some other clearly bs cult like program.

    I think this video is too generalized, that all life coaches are scammers and that all share the same concepts. You make good valid points, but the concept that never ending self-improvement is the focus of life coaches is not accurate. You decide if you feel that self-improvement is what you need, as individuals not all of us need life coaches, as not all of us need therapy. We choose how we want to better understand our selfs but I do agree that seeing most videos claiming how you could make 6 figures being a life coach when you make a search does not help the image.

    This video is irrelevant as we all have our own subjective realities. I’ll agree, life coaching on it’s own may have it’s shortcomings but combined with something as in-depth as NLP it can become a superpower for changework. Another thing I want to mention is that the coaching depends on each individual alone rather than a collective group of people. This video is actually in violation of some of the meta-programs we have in NLP. He claims that “most” people are affected the same way and that “we” as if he can speak for everyone is a generalization and he is limited in his own thinking. There are embedded commands hidden in this video suggesting that coaching is so bad and that it has little to no affect. What he’s missing is intention. Yes it is much more relaxing to just be yourself, but what if you WANT to constantly improve and grow?? What if you want to know how and what to do to improve but don’t know how?? No anount of time is going to do that. Simple deletions are all over this video. Things like “this” and “that”, what exactly does he mean?? He needs to be more specific. All I’m saying is don’t let this guy influence you.. he is using the excact same techniques he’s warning you against. Peace✌🏻

      @andresmit6729 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Relevant according to whom?? Relevant in what context? For who?? You see if you have any knowledge whatsoever about NLP you’ll understand that we all create our own subjective realities by the way we think and use the mind. A complete generalized biased experience. We call this “the map is not the territory” and you my friend have run into this wall that so many people end up running into. You are mistaking the map for the territory and in all truth the map will NEVER be the territory. In other words your experience of the world will always be just that.. YOUR experience and you cannot speak for other people. And seriously, if you depend on people’s views on your video to make it relevant I think you should examine the information you put in the video. Peace✌🏻

    No one wants to deal with constant change or constant development it is exhausting.People just want to live I know because I am one of many. However, there is nothing wrong with being the best version of yourself, if you want to be. However society plays a role in this two, with materialistic expectations and never letting us just be! Without feeling guilt because we do not have the coolest car or boyfriend/ girlfriend, job or did not achieve a higher education. Some of your points are valid, and I am happy that you shared your perspective, but one hat does does not fit all.If it were that easy than why do we need counselors, social workers or psychologists? In short, I did meet a spiritual coach she was very flexible and decently priced she gave me the best advice ever! She told me to read the bible and seek out God. How many coaches are like her not many, but I am blessed to have crossed paths with her 😇. If anyone is going to seek a Life coach please question them for your own protection! God bless everyone 😊!

    • @brianlmeyers6169
      @brianlmeyers6169 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Possibly, the depression and unhappiness comes from feeling stuck. Possibly, the stuck-ness is a result of clinical depression. Only you can decide which is which; or which one to work on first. Maybe, if you work on one side, the other will resolve itself. A therapist can help you with depression. A coach can help get you un-stuck. The trick is to find a qualified, high-quality provider (which ever kind you choose). Make sure they are well trained. Always ask what license or certification they have. Make sure they are somebody you feel comfortable talking to. Interview them before you start shelling out cash. If you are feeling depressed, please, please, please do find help of one kind or another. Even making a little step forward - in either direction - will begin to ease your difficulties.

      I deal with depression and anxiety too. I started with therapy first. I’ve dealt and talked about past pain with my therapist (I was in an abusive relationship) for a year now. After talking about my pain, I’m now able to focus on improving my self esteem and am motivated to pursue a career. A year of therapy later, I now have a life coach, started a 12 week program about 2 weeks ago. She’s helps me plan out realistic goals for the week and the following week we discuss if I achieved them. If so, we increase the time and if not we decrease the time to make it realistic. We also get down to the nitty gritty of why I didn’t accomplish them (usually due to fear of failing) or get down to the root of the problem which is easy for me because I’ve already discussed it in therapy. I hope this helps. You definitely have to put the work in for a life coach, which is why I started with a therapist because I was in no shape to be motivated or improve in other areas of my life at that point in my life. It was hard to simply take a shower or get out of my bed some days. So I’d hold off on a life coach. Best of luck!

When Tony Robbins speaks about constant development, what you understood is in literal distorted sense , thinking yourself as an artificial being ,while in reality Coaching does help people significantly make profound changes . The main point in this video is if you don't have money, don't hire a coach since it wouldn't help those who're just starting out. Unless if you've already rich to throw a lot of money.
