    This film is so underrated. The cast is great, the characters are likeable, the plot is solid. It's not just a typical shot for shot carbon copy of the original, it is in it's own way original. No, nobody can outperform Robert Englund as Freddy, that's a fact. HOWEVER, take nothing away from Jackie Earle Hayley's performance. He was very dark and sadistic. Jackie played a great Freddy. There is no real reason to hate this film but there are many reasons to like it.
    *EDIT* I will say, they missed a GOLDEN opportunity in making Freddy innocent.

    Fun fact: This Freddy's backstory is closer to the one Wes Craven originally intended for original Freddy to be a pedophile rather than a child murderer. Craven had to change him into a child murderer, however, to avoid being accused of exploiting a spate of highly publicized child molestation cases that occurred in California around the time of the original film's production.

A Pedophile is disgusting & horrible for a kid cuz they had to live through that but you still have them in your life to care for
    To me Freddy was better as the Springwood Slasher

    • @themozARTgroupie
      @themozARTgroupie 4 ปีที่แล้ว +41

      ...Yes and no. Mostly agree, I'd just phrase it differently - I don't think the Child Killer aspect is 'more horrifying', it's more *suitable* for a *horror film* imo. Pedophile rapists are scary in their own way, but mostly just plain disgusting! They don't build any fascination for me, and I think that aspect - the latent fascination - is among the most important for any Slasher.
      Original Freddy was a Pied Piper with horrific charm, this is just. Preschool Pedo Jones. Maybe slightly scary but overall just pisses me off more than he could ever entertain me.

    Whats intersting about this movie is that it portaits vividly the child abuse-suprese memory issue.If you see it from another point some of them were on meds and depressive because of the childhood trauma and either suicide or kill another(you could easily assumed that Dean suicide and Jesse killed Kris out of jealousy,then kill him self.)And the hall fighting journy of Nancy is to remember and get over her abuse in order to move on with a new boyfriend.

    In the original, Freddy was put on trial, but because of an unsigned warrant and drunk judge he was released, resulting in the adults banding together to torch him in his old boiler room. In the remake, they don't go to the police because they didn't want to have to bring their kids into a courtroom so they could testify on what he did to them. They wanted to spare their kids of telling everyone all he did knowing how painful it was for them to have to talk about it with so many strangers. They all could've been tried for murder without hard evidence aside from the cuts and such on their bodies.

Even though in the original it was subtly hinted at and referenced to in Freddy Vs Jason so i don't understand why everyone's against the idea, it makes him even more sinister in someways. I also kinda like the "did he really?" twist they throw near the end even though its pretty obvious once they find the preschool. I really did enjoy this movie and i suggest watching the alternative ending for those who haven't seen it, its in true Nightmare fashion and even shows Nancy's character grow and have a proper end.

    In the original script for the first nightmare movie, Freddy was supposed to be a child molester. However at the time there was a bunch of big child molestation cases popping up in California, so they decided to make him a child "murderer" so that noone would accuse them of taking advantage of the real-life court cases. So instead, they changed him to a child murderer. Now, in the 2010 version they kinda brought back the original idea of him being a pervert.molester.

      Jermaine Martinez-Perez But in the original, he was going to be a child molester as Well, but Wes Craven dropped it because he didn't want people to think he was capitalizing on the McMartin scandal. By happenstance, the original franchise made the idea of Freddy as a pedophile subtext that's hinted at throughout the series; even in "The Dream Child" and "Freddy vs. Jason", there's moments where he's flat out labeled as a child molester in one of the newspapers covering his case ("TDC") or mentions how much he loves little girls, with the way he licks the picture of the girl whose eyes he gouged out with the glove ("FvJ").

    • @deandaniel1580
      @deandaniel1580 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I remember reading some book about it that also described the history. Mother got raped by many men. Little Freddy was born. He was beaten by his father. Abused so much. He left the place and basically had quite a crappy life. One day he passed out drunk in a alley. Some kids saw him and decided to screw around with him. Freddy woke up in surprise and knocked one of them out with a beer bottle. The other kids ran off. He picked up the kid and took him to the boiler room and lay him on a table I think. Then he remembered the stuff his father said like how kids are useless and should just die or whatever. He took a knife and carved 4 lines into the kids stomach. He took pleasure in doing so, especially when the blood sprayed all over him. Thats how he got the idea for the glove. His first victim with the glove was on a girl called Amy I think...she was a girl who was waiting for her mom to pick her up but her mom seemed to be running late. Because what I remember reading is that all the kids ran to their parents when school finished and she was standing alone by the sidewalk waiting for her mom. Then...she was standing no more.
      Don't judge if some parts seem a bit out of place and correct me if I was wrong but I last read it when I was 12 (18 now)

    I read that they were thinking about doing a sequel after this movie. If they did make more following this movie, I wonder if we would’ve saw Freddy’s backstory like in the original films. For example, would we have seen a time when this version of Freddy was married and had a daughter? In “Freddy’s Dead”, it was revealed that Katherine told everyone how he killed her mother and that she found all the stuff he had hidden in the basement, which made everyone realize he’s the Springwood Slasher. Since these preschoolers are the reason why Freddy got caught in what he was doing, I wonder if this means this version of Freddy got divorced which led him becoming homeless and he had to move into the preschool’s basement. It would’ve been interesting if it revealed that the reason why Freddy loves Nancy much is because she reminds him of Katherine.

In the original series the Dream Demons gave Freddy his powers but in the remake it isn't explained how he got them. I seriously don't like how they changed the backstory for the remake making him only a child molester making the glove for example redundant.
    Although Wes Craven originally wanted Freddy to be both a child molester and killer but the former was cut out because they didn't want to trivialize a series of child molestation going on that the time in California.
    Another fact too what I also don't like about this remake this Freddy lived in a basement of a preschool while the original Freddy as imagine by Wes Craven (before Freddy's Dead turned him into a Family Man), he was originally a squatting drifter hobo who lived in a space in the powerplants boiler room (of course he also worked there depending if you took "Freddy's Revenge" as canon) which is also where he built the glove and took his kids to murder them which you watch all about it in "Confessions of Fred Krueger" which probably my favorite incarnation of Freddy out all the others (although the fan film suggests he worked at the power plant following with Freddy's Revenge but it was clear that Craven originally envisioned Freddy to be a squatter).

But he failed at that as it was too late. Either way it still sucked in my opinion just made the glove pointless it should of been left in his backstory as The Springwood Slasher he used that glove originally to kill those kids before he was the dream demon we all know. Yes I get Freddy was and always will be one sick SOB even in the originals but they did a good job keeping that molestation stuff hinted. In the remake he was clearly a sick pedophile and a collector of disgusting illegal porn photos in his shoe box in his little man-cave.

      @@Attention.. It would have been interesting and a pretty surprising twist. For him to have once been a good man but becomes a monster because he was framed and killed for no reason. I get why they didn't go with that though. Freddy has to be pure evil.

    Honestly, this doesn't look half bad. It's shot well, decent editing, and even making Freddy kind of pathetic before his death is an interesting route. I mean it's never gonna be the original, but at least it's better than the Friday the 13th, Halloween, and Texas Chainsaw remakes.

    It would've been better if Freddy was just innocent and falsely accused and framed by the real culprit.
    It would've been awesome if they went with it instead as it would've been just as tragic as Jason's backstory.

    See this is something I didn't like about the remake. I enjoyed seeing the backstory, but they changed it.
    Freddy used to be a sadistic child-killer. He'd kidnap innocent children & kill them, then proceed to read & laugh at all the news articles about how they can't catch the killer, he was an evil bastard, he deserved what he got & it made sense that hell would want him as part of their club.
    But this version implies that all he did was molest the kids. While it's still a terrible thing to do, it makes everything less impactful, it makes it seem like the parents are just overreacting when they burn him, instead of just arresting him. you almost feel sorry for him when you see him get burned alive. And he becomes the pizza-faced dream-manipulator because....he diddled some kids? There are already people out there who did & are doing that, and there's also people who have done much worse, so why does a child molester come back to life to kill teenagers?

    • @realdealmind01
      @realdealmind01 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Actually, Wes Craven's original idea was to make Freddy a child molester but he changed it because at the time of shooting there was a big case of child molestation going on in California and making such a move would mean that Craven would be accused of exploiting the victims. So the remake actually stays true to Craven's vision

    • @Izaan2810

      DUDE, WHAT????!!!! A child molester is FAAAAAAR worse than a child killer. I don't know how you are so undermining that but rape is far unforgivable than murder in my opinion. And NO, no one felt bad about a child molester dying. You are absolutely sick in your head for feeling bad about a child molester dying!!!! He deserved it completely. Freddy is way gross here than he has ever been in the past sequels.
