Ha. On my version of the jogle (Cape Wrath to Lizard Point) Id say around Bristol and the Somerset levels were definitely the worst part of the trip. All the footpaths were overgrown so in the end I just marched mostly roads n the odd railway n bridleway for 3 days ( 🤯). I was so glad to make it to Bridgnorth and the quantock hills. then hitting the coast at Watchet all the way down to Lizard was a fine ending. Congratulations to you btw.! I hope the coast was as lovely an ending as it was for me.
Omg, yes! The paths from Bath to Taunton have been so overgrown in so many places 😬 I also jumped on the coast path at Watchet and was so happy when I started the swcp in Minehead. Was the perfect ending (I did the swcp last year and it felt a bit like coming home) 🥰🥰
I hated those days on the AT after a hurricane and tornado hit. The tornado had a 22 mile 50 tree blow down.I know it’s had carrying Otto I carried my terrier through a snow storm. Nice you had a friends to zero after that. You are doing a remarkable job with this documentary series. Be well and Trail on! 🥾🐕
Thank you so much for the kind words - that means the world! Thank you for following along :) Yes, these parts on a thru-hike are really tough.... But it's all part of the hike I guess and makes you appreciate the beautiful/scenic parts even more :)
I think we all felt your frustration at path closures Elli. Here at the other end of the River Severn (Shropshire) we get lots of path closures and the the local authorities take their time opening them up again…often forgetting to do it. It’s usually flood closures or fallen trees that block your way. Fantastic you got to see some towns & cities…makes up for the boring bits. 😊
Yes, that's so true! Exploring both cities was really great :) Thank you so much! I was really frustrated in the end, some closures really seemed to be forgotten about. People walked through the fence and it was obvious that the repair works had been completed and that they had just forgotten to take down the fences that blocked the access...
day 83 sure was a tough one, glad you had a couple of rest days to charge those batteries, congrats on reaching 1K subscribers, as always looking forward to your next adventure. 😊
Aww, thank you so so much for your support :) That means the world and I really appreciate you following along :) Stay tuned for the next videos, there are still some crazy bits coming up 😅🙈
The situation that you found yourself in I can absolutely relate to, and it is really, really frustrating when the route is so clearly fixed in your brain, only to be shown wrong by barriers saying no access. In similar situations, my brain sort of over reacts, and for a short time becomes irrational. You dealt with it really well. That's down to your experience of hiking. We'll done. Another riveting series of videos. Cheers.
Hey Elli, Loved your and Otto's vids! I'm a Bristolian through and through. Cycling the old Severn Bridge and the Bristol to Bath path is one of my favourites. Would've been great to meet you both. You have a great vibe and you're an expert curser. My favourite is S**t! 😂
Bristol is a great city. I lived there as a student, mainly in Clifton near the suspension bridge. I think it’s even trendier now than it was then. Many memories.
Ouch, that was horrible for you & Otto. The Offa's Dyke path is historically iconic, but what a nightmare to get on and off it when it's part of a longer trek. Did you see the Cotswold Way marker outside Bath Abbey and review your choices, I wonder 😉 The legal public rights of way (PROW) maps are on the councils websites, but I don't know if they include closures etc So good you got to stay with your friend for a well deserved 3 day rest.
Yes, it was a bit of a struggle 😅 I saw the marker for the Cotswold Way, definitely on the list too :) but I'm really happy I did the ODP, it's a great trail 😊 Yes, I probably should have checked for closures, I didn't come across any bigger closures before so that didn't even cross my mind 😅🙈
That looked pretty tough going, well done for getting through it. I'm sometimes tempted to ignore path closed signs, if it doesn't look like anything is actually happening that could be dangerous. The UK is lucky in having so many paths and trails but the local councils just don't seem to understand how much trouble closing them causes to walkers, especially if there's no notice about the closures.
I was tempted to just go through and continue on the path but didn't because I was afraid that it would be blocked completely. It would have been horrible to backtrack since the day was already soooo long. But then on another closure, the work was obviously completed (a local told me that I could go through and he was right) but the "closed" signs were still up as if they'd forgotten to take them away.... 🙄
HI Elli and Otto. After watching this one I bet you're bloody glad you're already home. Somebody should have warned you the British council love to block roads and put up fences all over the place. 😋✌️
Hahaha, yes that was really a tough day! Felt like everything was going wrong that day 😅 I didn't encounter any bigger closures before, so that didn't even cross my mind 😅
Hi Elli so happy you and Otto are safe from those dangerous A roads, they are so bad these days but also getting round all those blocked ways. Another great video again loved the places you visited too. And Otto what a brave litte chap . Take care both
Thank you so much, Chris! Always looking foraward to your comments, they always make my day :) I was definitely when I reached Bristol having that hard bit behind me :)
@@ellihikes I used work and walk in those areas when I lived in UK , plus the seven bridges can get very windy in car or on foot , it really surprised me. Take care both 🌷
I'm glad that you found your way round all those fenced off paths. The authorities should be made to signpost diversions. How easy was it to find accommodation that allowed Otto to stay in your room?
Thank you, yes that's so true! I mainly used Booking and airbnb to book accomodation and found it relatively easy as you can filter to only see options that allow dogs. In some parts there weren't a lot of options, but I always managed to find something when I wanted to. But that being said, I only used hotels in bigger towns, where there a lot of options so the chances of finding something where dogs are allowed is quite high.... Definitely harder in smaller towns/villages....
As a Bristolian I'm embarrassed and angry at the complete lack of consideration for walkers shown by our council and construction companies. I hope it didn't put you off Bristol which is a lovely city and very walker and cyclist friendly.
Hahahaha, yes it was a bit tough that day getting there! But I really loved Bristol, I stayed for a few days and it has such a cool creative vibe - definitely not put off at all 🥰

Aww, thank you so much! 😊
the bridge reminded me of the Golden Gate.. Just less people.. :). looking good
I had the same thought, the structure looks a bit similar 😊

I've never been to Bristol, but I loved it! So many interesting places, cafes and the suspension bridge was a highlight for sure :)
Sorry it has been difficult for you Ellie x
