These stories are great examples as to why you should be VERY careful online. Online predators often don't get caught unless they're lured to meet you somewhere physically. But as you can tell me from these stories, they're not always just out to get you sexually. They can be after other things as well.

When I was little, I would go over to my grandmothers often. She had a laptop for work and she let me use it for watching videos. She always uses a picture of me and or my mother for her background. Her laptop had a built in face cam. One day, she got an email saying "your granddaughter is pretty:)" she panicked and had to do a hard reset on the computer or buy a new one(I can't remember) she now keeps her camera covered and always has a good hacker/virus checker. Guys this doesn't just happen online.

Probably because most people live safe lives, free of any major threats or issues. We've progressed to a point where we are at the top of the food chain, we have dominated nature until the point it bends at our will (for the most part), we have medicine and science to cure our ills and solve our problems. Meanwhile this is a relatively new position. For all of our evolutionary chain, we have had to fear. We have had to worry about everything potentially killing us, chasing us out of our living areas, having to worry about whether or not the migration of animals or the dying of plants in the winter would kill us off. Even after harnessing fire, we still had to worry about what stalked around at night outside of its light.
Our brains are evolutionarily wired for fear, and, aside from minor things, the average person doesn't have any real things to fear. When we hear about stories that are outside the norm, things that tap in to our deep fears, we're triggering that evolutionary instinct. It gets our hearts pumping, it gets the adrenaline flowing, it taps in to those places in our brain we rarely have to use. It's a thrill. In the same way a rollercoaster is essentially 'HEY YOU FEEL LIKE YOU'RE GOING TO DIE, THIS ISN'T NATURAL!' to your brain, making it thrilling, horror does the same to us.
What used to be an instinct to save us from predators or the land/seasons/etc killing us has become novel, entertaining, when it's not happening to us. It engages us. Because, when it boils down to it, in the past, survival meant fear. Now that our fears are typically pushed aside on a day to day basis, we can look at them in another light.

I feel bad for genuinely good guys getting lumped in with the large amount of psychos in their gender. Sucks that women often miss out on good guys and guy often miss out on good girls simply because of the justifiable paranoia women have to show. Makes it hard to trust.
Then again us good women get lumped in with the likes of shallow gold digging whores so both genders have their struggles in that aspect of trust.

The second story is pretty much the exact same thing that happened to me. I wanted to kill myself because It was honestly the worst feeling in my life. My advice may seem obvious, but NEVER show yourself nude to someone you don't know.

I was a victim of the 2nd story when i was only 12-13 years old. it went on for months. i self harmed over it and attempted suicide. it honestly felt like i was being tortured. each time i was hoping it was over he came back and if i didn't do as he said he was gonna send the photos to other people. now that i'm older i know how to avoid those situations

Hope you feel better. I get headaches a lot, too and what works for me is 2-4 aspirin and a caffeinated soda, that combo works well. Headaches are sometimes caused by dehydration, so lots of water is helpful. =)
i get migraines.... put your feet in warm water and a ice pack on the back of your neck(right at the base of your skull).... it really helps

For the second story, I think would have asked for info on how to send them money, then when I have said info just be like "lol, thanks for the identifying information, enjoy your blackmail and CP charges".
They likely would have had a dummy Paypal account or something. Or, if they're real slick, a stolen debit card, though that's less likely.
They would need some kind of way to get that money out though, wouldn't they? Some way that would tie it back to them?

i met a guy friend on world of warcraft. after a while we added each other on fb. he started talking to me every day, me being antisocial would not reply all the time. eventually i had to say that i had a bf to get him to back off. he said "you dont have a bf, i see no pictures of him.: ok. so i just deleted him and stopped responding. after a while i thought it was over but he started messaging me again asking me why i deleted him, that he liked me, etc. mind you i never led him on. it didnt stop there, he tried to ridocule me on wow trade chat and started bothering me there under different names. at one point, i was surprised that wow trade chat defended me since there's a lot of trolling. but after a while it did come to a stop. it was just an annoying experience.

the same thing happened to me but it was SWTOR. I wanted to run more instances and his guild did. we got on skype(no video) so we could communicate, u know the usual. after about 2 weeks of being in his guild, he started getting...crazy. he knew I had a bf and still tried to talk dirty and even tried to tell me my bf was cheating on me (which wasn't true, because cmon he was right next to me on his computer). finally I left the guild, stopped playing for a year and deleted my Skype account. when I did go back he tried to talk to me again. finally I made a new account and quit going on main.

I am glad you share these online predator stories. I personally don't find them scary but I do however find these stories valuable for establishing just how serious the threat of online predators are. It's always a relief that most people who send these stories in don't end up in as much danger that they could have ended up in.

I played with one in college. The spirit claimed it was satan’s number one angel (won’t say name, but you can look it up in the Bible… the name is too far out the way a lot of Hebrew names are, no way friends or I could have subconsciously made that up)
It wreaked havoc on me for a year (?) ‘ish. Pics falling off walls, voices, all the scary usual. Plus weird random things, like sliding tapes up and down my dashboard when I drove. It even pronounced that I was its favorite, and would follow me everywhere- and it did! Incl when I moved almost 400 miles away.
I’m Christian now because of it - the devil in a twisted way lead me to God. Because it made me realize there is another side, and if there really is a devil, there must be a God too.
Also because God kept saving me when the dark angel kept try to kill me. I was hit by a car as a pedestrian, flying over the roof of the speeding car completely airborne. Less than a year later hit another car head on at full speed (drunk driver) and other very scary things.
I finally used Jesus’ name to tell it to “F off”. I wasn’t Christian but heard using His name would make it stop, and it did protect me (kept lurking, but didn’t touch me, and now it’s been quiet and free for years).
The devil is real, but so are God and Jesus - turn to Him while you still can. It’s easy, just call to Him You’ll see ❤️ God bless everyone here
I'd actually heard about the scam from the second story before, so he's right about it being fairly common, especially considering how it's next to impossible to get caught or punished for doing it. Even in today's day and age cyber crimes are criminally under-policed. To the idiot guys who would ever consider doing something like that for some stranger you met online, if you can't be talked out of that, at the VERY LEAST, at least run a quick test first to see that it's a real girl and not just a pre-recorded video. Ask her to do a quick, simple task, like to hold up three fingers or roll her eyes - something specific enough that likely wouldn't be in a recording like that. Also, if you do end up as a victim, whether they get you to specifically do something like that for them or they hack your webcam and are able to record you naked, do NOT give in to the ransom. From everything I've been told (I've never been the victim of something like this, but I've heard a lot about it - if you're really interested, do your own research) paying the ransom will usually only lead to more ransom demands. While there is a chance they will send the video to your family/friends, that chance is usually not affected by whether or not you actually pay them. In fact, many countries that are notorious for running these types of scams have strict laws against owning homosexual pornographic material or just pornographic material in general, so most of them will want to delete the video they have of you as soon as possible. Again, this is just from what I've heard, so I could be talking out of my ass, but just think, what's to stop an anonymous person who blackmails you like that from blackmailing you again as soon as you pay them?
In summary:
1. Don't skype with strangers and keep your webcam unplugged and/or covered when you're not using it
2. If you do skype with strangers, don't masturbate or get naked for them
3. If you are going to ignore part 2, use a simple test to at least make sure it's a real person and not a recording
4. If you end up getting scammed, tell them you're contacting the police and you won't be paying any ransom and hunker down, preparing for the chance they make good on their threat

i have my own cyber stalker story to tell:
it was the fall of freshman year in highschool and i had just become best friends with a girl who moved to my town from oklahoma. in this story i will refer to her as “k”. it’s important to know that k didn’t have any form social media. in fact, when our english teacher made us all make twitter accounts for her class, she was reluctant to do so. it was homecoming day, so i went over to k’s house and she did my hair and makeup. k’s mother took us to our school where homecoming was being held. k had plans to leave homecoming an hour early and walk to the movies (which was close to the school) and see a movie with a group of people. she didn’t want to wear heels any longer than she had to, so she brought a pair of black vans and stashed them in the bushes in front of the school, so that she didn’t have to carry them the entire night and so she could grab them on her way and change into them. it was an hour into the dance and i really wanted to dance with someone. there was a guy to school who i had kind of had a thing for. i was way too awkward to ask him to dance with me, so i had k ask him for me. he agreed and we danced together. that’s really all i can remember from the night. almost a week after the dance, i got a dm request on instagram from a user i didn’t recognize. when i opened his message i was beyond scared. i don’t remember the specifics of what he said, but he was basically repeating back to me the events of that night. he told me he knew k (or as he called her “his sunshine”) had stashed her shoes in the bush, and he knew that k asked a guy to dance with me. he also explained this is great detail, almost as if he was there. these specific events that occurred on homecoming night were not common knowledge. i looked at his profile and his bio said he was from oklahoma. i texted k a screenshot of his dm and profile. she panicked and explained that she had a stalker back in her home town. i could tell this really effected her, so at this point i was too busy being a concerned friend to even worry about how he found me. i never posted any pictures with k and my account was private. not to mention, my username was nothing close to my real name. i have no idea how he was able to find my instagram account. the eerie thing that still haunts me is that i have no idea how he knew what happened that night, especially in great detail. in the end, i ending up not replying and i blocked him. i often still wonder if that’s why k had never had any form social media.

that last story really helped me cause ive been through that same situation and ever since it happened i get really stressed and anxious when i think about it. its nice to know im not alone

I got a zune for my birthday on my 16th birthday and was a little disappointing at first but it held way more music and videos than the newest iPod and was also way more sturdy (iPods, especially the iPods from 30 - 120gb would start glitching or breaking down if you put to much music or vids on it, zunes would not). The interface on the other hand sucked ass lol

I like listening to these because it tells about other people's experiences and teaches me how to be more responsible on the internet. I met someone Online my age about 2 months ago and me and him recently split and I am starting to begin to understand how much problems it causes and how much it can hurt :(
I love him as a friend and he is so special to me.
