I remember watching this video way back when I began watching TH-cam. I feel like this kickstarted my love for Hornby model trains, it's something I absolutely love looking into. Rewatched these adverts again just now, really nostalgic
I just somehow found this on my homefeed and hearly had a heart attack when I heard the first 3 seconds of the video. Also HOW DID I FIND YOU HERE (im CoryDingus fgjjdflslk)
No one has posted the best ever Hornby ad. It was out around 1988. It started of a slow beat and included the flying Scotsman. I’m sure it ended up with trains going fast and a guy saying “stations and stations and stations...” can’t find it anywhere but will prob have it on VHS somewhere
Ah so many memories, I still have all of my hornby and other model train stuff in my cupboard. Might have to dig it out and see if it still works, its been about 10 years or so.
Nostalgia time: So I used to rewatch this video all the time when I first found it. I was so interested in the models, especially the Thomas ones, as I've never seen anything like them before. After that day I always wanted to get my hands on some of those models, and so far I have 1 Thomas. This video sure did bring back some memories
0:17 I bet there's not many model shops like that now, it's all done on the internet which is a great shame especially for the youngsters growing up now
that is sadly true, there used to be one in or on the north northflock railway it was an old single box turned into that, its sadly gone now i do have an old picture on one of those throw away camera's its dark but i remember it
My first train set in 1986 was a Lima Class 43 HST in Intercity Executive livery although my first Hornby set was the Midnight Freight that had the BR Class 58 that I got for my birthday in 1988. Happy Days :).
OMG I remember the thomas and bertie set!! I got that when I was just a little tomboy! Then I got a santa fe circle set. I picked up a red caboose at the red caboose motel in PA, Then I got a christmas set from a supermarket, and then I discovered model train shops and now I'm building up my own empire, with over 40 locomotives thus far
It's what the big kids want to play with, no matter how big they are.. Nice to hear the R L Stevenson-inspired poem again. It's just a pity the most unforgettable of all Hornby ads ISN'T here ("nothing goes like it, nothing grows like it")
+Grithron2 Well tbh nowadays you don't really see kids playing with Trains or "toy trains" anymore since the Technology of Ipads and Laptops and all that stuff has drove kids away from it. It's a shame that future kids are gonna have their faces stuck on a screen. But I do use my laptop a lot...
That would probably be good for some trains. Train sets would be good, ones meant to look like their real siblings and ones styled after TV, i.e., Thomas, The Polar Express. I think these manufacturers are doing good, but I don't think they are doing enough. I mean, besides catalogs, and some of those cards with those limited editions, do some ads on TV, magazines, and etc. Model railroading is a great hobby.
nice one I have some serious ones but also Thomas ones, I remember the second advert of Thomas shown, how prices have changed. HD 1080p New Bachmann Salty Test Run & Richard's 009 Layout. Plus more Hornby and Bachmann engines.
Hornby was voted britians best hobby so whats nerdy about being one of the people who are part of that hobby and enjoy watching old adverts go taste some windows
Hornby don't make Thomas & Friends models any more. But fear not. The new Bachmann range of Thomas & Friends models is on its way to a model shop near you. Rails of Sheffield have got them right now, with other model shops to follow suit. Bachmann Thomas & Friends models are just like their TV show counterparts, and they're on my shopping list. Put them on yours today and you'll eventually have a model railway full of fun and mischief. It's too good to miss.
Weird, here in a America, the last model train commercial was aired in the....either the 60's, 70's or even the 80's. That was a LIONEL commercial. Lionel and any other manufacturer of American trains haven't done another commercial.
Love all these. These are more than hobby’s these are lifetimes journey. Happy 100th anniversary Hornsby. I love all international models.

OMG! I GOT THE THOMAS AND BERTIE SET WHEN I WAS A KID! SUCH HAPPY MEMORIES!
@ASBR-HK Sadly, I have no idea; perhaps it was sold, perhaps it was trashed,I may never know...
I just got mine from a charity shop for £4.99 thomas's dome wont stay on & I will build the set soon & expand on it

I think the first one was for YellowPages*.
+RCgaming01 we have yellowpages now
True, but at least it was still sort of related to Hornby.
yeah I guess
Viz comic did a parody of this and that guy isn't J.R. Hartley.
Actually, I think it was a combination of hornby and YellowPages.
0:06 “Yellow Pages”
This video is still a classic to look back at every once in a while!

2:02 The Hornby Revolution
I love Hornsby train sets. I used to have lots of different models.
0:21 The kid says (in the subtitles), No, you know the home beat the blow model railway? XD Those British accents are pretty thick tho.
@aaronshagwell oh well you do know the ads have got extra track, buildings, senic covers ect?
It's what the big kids want to play with, no matter how big they are..
Nice to hear the R L Stevenson-inspired poem again.

Hornby is amazing. I wish they would bring back the E2 though. Great Video!
good old Hornby in the classic time
First video I ever watched on youtube
me 2
sweet great adverts
I like the Thomas theme songs in the Thomas trailer!
I like the first advert/commercial (For a yellow pages advert/commercial).
How the fuck does a kid save enough money in a piggy bank to afford a model train?
He was probably saving up the money for a long time.
It was a signal box not a train
Alex Paulsen birthday, or Christmas cards
Its easy i bet a kid can get 30 pounds. Its not the best train ever but its a train
Changed my seven year old self in 2017
I wish modern ads had the charm that these did
does anyone remeber watching this when they were kids
My father has a train set. Me and my sister and my brother had a Thomas Wooden Train-set when we were children.
I wish I have one of those
The Yellow Pages ad made me cry
WOLFIEMATIONSINC thanks

@Harry244ful Good for you!

I might get 2 Hornby trains for my birthday
Just on of these commercials had more effort put into it than the entirety of modern Thomas toys
Cool trains
Hornby was voted britians best hobby so whats nerdy about being one of the people who are part of that hobby and enjoy watching old adverts
go taste some windows
@username5515 yeah but it had hornby in it
Fun fact: Hornby was invented in 1901.
Rick & Morty + Phineas & Ferb
(1980's + 1990's-2000's)
Love it
Check out your nearest model train show, the next time one is on.

@themymysteryman101 ya i know that but even if i had all that stuff i could never make it look that perfect
I had my first Bachmann Thomas, but it broke, so any of you live in England, raise your hand. I’m from America.
My bachmann thomas broke to so I may get a lionel thomas for Christmas
3:05 I didn't know that Hornby made a model APT. I may have to find one.
1:50 hornby has the old slow coach
2:16 Wow!!
i remember when hornby was the unquestioned gods of model railways. Now its a cash cow with mabye one decent model every year
I know there’s another product that works with Hornby, but there both good
At 2:20, Start as you mean to go on, if I did that, I would have over 500 trains as I've just started collecting and we've got 7 trains!
