Why casteism should be eliminated from Hindu society:
    1. The so-called lower castes stayed loyal Hindus through hundreds of years in spite of discrimination and all incentive to convert to Islam/Christianity
    2. Endogamy results in weaker generations, lower IQ, rampant disease and vulnerability
    3. Caste is determined by one’s actions and occupation, not birth
    4. Nowadays, We are all performing acts that belong to all 4 historical castes: if we work for a company or another person, we are shudra; if a so-called lower caste person serves in the police or army, they are by definition, kshatriya
    5. There are other definitions of caste found in Hindu texts, one of which is based on how strictly brahmacharya is observed
    6. Hindus believe every human being has a soul which at the core, is nothing but God, Aham Brahmasmi. Thus necessarily implies that caste is a human construct but our reality is identity with God.
    7. Caste is a stick used to beat up on Hindus by other religions.
The true sages such as Swami Vivekananda used to consider caste discrimination as madness. Perhaps there was a time and a place for it in the past. We are long past that now.

I wholeheartedly congratulate & thank Mr. Mehra for speaking on this controversial topic. The only way to end caste system is for the downtrodden depressed classes to democratically aquire political power as Dr. Ambedkar had instructed. Equality cannot come through charity or caretakership of others.

I don't think the problem ends there because various lower caste people have acquired political power. They have gained esteemed positions like that of diplomats and civil servants.
The thing is they try to deny and end their relationship with their respective caste. They just want to let go of it. They do not work on an individual level to annihilate the current system and uplift them. It's same as how ashrafs in Muslims treat the pasmandas as vote banks. They deliberately try to resist their upliftment or pay no heed to it.

My suggestion would be to drop the labels (like Dalit) you struggle with and emphasise more on the labels (like hindu) you probably feel more comfy with
And every time someone directly or indirectly discriminates, just wear a big smile and ask “but why me. What about me makes you uncomfy”. This approach needs a self assurance and self confidence but trust me this worked for me every time I tried 😊

My grandmother and many other elderly people in my family wouldn't eat food cooked by some low-caste individual or eat the cooked food if it's touched by someone from a lower caste. Once my mother got touched by upper caste (land owner ) it's the guilt I have till this day I don't have any power to say anything to him , hopefully we left that phase , what should I say more to this , it's intricate in society you can't rent a house in major cities also they ask you your caste , in job sector they also prefer higher caste (Private Co. ) reservation real good for people like us my brother got govt job in 2016 , what he's facing now from upper caste seniors give extra work ,and uneven mocking from colleagues , but it's not as bad as our childhood trauma ,I respect those fellow saviours ! I'm 20 now working +studying , by god grace we are having house to live , food to eat , clothes to wear , but something is missing which is my childhood !we are not ever get chance to leave that past just like everyone , it's remain with us stayed with us This is real crulity of this world ! Now they are obviously no way near where Kushal stands, and have several casteist views, it's just comparatively better. All pre-industrial societies were castist basically including Europe (serf system/ Nobility etc.), Middle East. The only solution is industrialization, dignity of labor - basically a massive expansion of what has happened already in Urban India, a pan Indian Hindu identity with caste as merely Hindu and nothing else.

This was a brilliant podcast, I have had a very serious conversation on reservations with a friend of mine who was my best friend from class 3rd and we had a conversation about caste and I had no idea he was an SC, because it never bothered me or my family and i grew up in a household where this was never an issue. Now that i get to here this It makes me think that he might have had other experiences and something if we could have discussed more and handled the topic differently and much maturely we could have sustained the whole friendship.
To the people out there who want to have a good conversation on issues like this. Try to be more patient with each other and make sure you give each other time for logical, moral and legal rebuttals and have an extended conversation, so that the horizon of your thoughts can extended to a level and something positive can come out with this.
also, no political, socio-economic, class, culture, creed, religion or gender should be an issue over which a friendship or a relation should be broken. Indifferences are good too. Try to maintain a positive relation with people.

i agree that casteism existed before British...in one way or the other i nave been experienced many times in my life..
but don't you think fluidity cease to exist for many reasons...
    1. Islamic invasion of india especially of women atrocities
2.human nature to posses and maintain their authority in the society over others
    3. British made institutionalized the caste system which makes hard for today hindu society to reform and become fluid again
    4. finances and livelihoods associated with community like kula vrutti
5.also in today's Indian society the failure of institutions like justice and policing and social security..which unfortunately somewhat communities provide or support their own.
6.lack of infusion of technology into the profession which associated with sanitary etc..ex:like gong farmers in Britain in about 17th century...
    7. also lack of educating spiritual knowledge and values to younger generations and also parents.
8.also families groom their children certain characteristics which makes them to further their kulavrutti...
so on like this....i want our hindu society to become fluid back according to abilities and profession rather than the birth...like sri Krishna says in gita" Chatur varnyam maya srustam guna karma vibhagasah"
it happens only through spirituality and education....

Mahayana Buddhism is very similar to some sect of Hinduism it more tolerant than Navayana.

I would like to respectfully disagree with you brother. Caste is a societal problem. All major Buddhist nations had record of casteism( I've used "Had" because most governments in these nations tried their best to end casteism, Indian politicians on the other hand made sure that caste remains, so that they could use caste dynamics and easily win elections).Buddhist countries like Japan(It practices a form of Mahayana Buddhism) still discriminates with their own 3 million Burakumin people and treat them as untouchable.
Pew research organization's report on intercaste marriage in India shows that 67%OBCs are against intercaste marriage(33% support), 64% Brahmins are against intercaste marriage(36%support), 61% SCs/STs are against intercaste marriage(39% support) and 59% non Brahmin General are against intercaste marriage(41% support). This report tells us that even Dalits are highly against intercaste marriage because there is a hierarchy even in Dalit community, someone from Mahar community will never marry someone from Mang community even if they both convert to a different religion(there are historical records of Mahars discriminating against Mangs). The only solution which i can think of is to create a casteless category just like General/OBC/SC/ST there should be a casteless category and anyone from General/OBC/SC/ST can become casteless if he/she wants to shed his/her caste identity, i believe as urbanization, education and infrastructure would improve more and more people will become casteless.

Manusmriti is not a well known book among hindus. Only others bring it out to do politics and propaganda against hindus. Manusmriti was law book of the ancient times and now we have different law book. Hindu laws change with time and perfectly allowed. Casteism is actually community division just like religion and linguistic groupism and tribalism. Yes, modern hindus need to redefine the old varnas so that they cannot be misused anymore. Maybe Brahmin-varna, Kshatriya-varna, Vaishya-varna, and other varnas given according to their present occupation and accomplishments. Old jati or community based casteism should be removed or overridden. Also conversion is NOT a solution because there is more to lose if identity is lost.
